Hey Brooks - if you happen to look at boxrec while using this era's fighters I have a small favor to ask.

Keep an eye out for a lower weight fight (FW or BW, I believe) that took place in San Francisco. It was billed for the World Championship or perhaps just the San Francisco title. Seriously, that's the way it was written up. Anyway, I can't rember the year or the fighters but want to find it again so I can get the scant details and go looking for more information about it. It's irritating that I can't find my notes about it.

Anyway, great era and universe!

Consider it done, Chris. If I stumble across it I will be sure to let you know about it.

Adding RFG Fighters

With the creation of regional type title I have had to add RFG fighters to my universe. They will be able to fight for regional titles but they only have a 15% chance of making into the H.O.B.O. main division to fight for world titles.

Also, I have disbanned the club division. Fighter that move to pre-prime with a winning or even record will move to H.O.B.O. main and their regional division. If they do not have a winning record they will stay in beginners division.

Chris, there was a Heavyweight Title Fight on 12-2-1896 between Tom Sharkey and Bob Fitzsimmons. It was billed that way due to Fitz beating Maher in his previous fight. Wyatt Earp was the ref and there was some controversy in the fight.

Thats the only one that I have run across so far but I will keep an eye out.

Young Corbett II fought several title fights in San Francisco even when he wasn't recognised as the true Champion.

Terry McGovern fought a title fight against Herrera in which Herrera claimed he had been drugged.

There is also a book called "Boxing in San Francisco" that you might find something in. Here is a link.

Thanks.

You'll know it if you ever see it. It says World title or San Fransicco title.

That was a good find at Google books though - a pretty big preview.

November 1896

November 7, 1896
[HW] (WBC) James J. Corbett 22-4-1 (4) v/s Hank Griffin 18-2-2 (13)
Corbett came into this fight tonight defending his WBC belt for the second time after winning it from Peter Jackson in December of 1895. His last fight was against a very game John L. Sullivan and he walked away a victor by unanimous decision. Griffin comes into this fight extremely confident having won seven of his last eight fights, four of those wins in his last four fights. At the opening bell the fighters hugged a little while then the punches started flying. Griffin could not catch Corbett with anything as he slid in and out throwing quick combos. At the 1:45 mark Griffin stopped a Corbett uppercut and he moved his hands to throw a counter but Corbett fired off a rapid combo to the chin of Griffin. Griffin was dropped and never made it back to his feet. A knockout victory for Corbett at the 1:55 mark of round one. Griffin threw 19 punches and didn't land a single one. Corbett threw 40 and landed 21 of those to finish off his second challenger for the title.
(WBC) James J. Corbett 23-4-1 (5) (KO 1) Hank Griffin 18-3-2 (13)
Undercard:
[HW] Dick Matthews 20-5-1 (13) (Draw 12) Joe Goss 17-6-2 (1)
[HW] Frank Herald 18-7-0 (15) (TKO 4) Harry Laing 14-7-3 (12)
[HW] Bill Farnan 16-8-0 (12) (UD 10) Billy Smith 18-8-3 (11)
[MW] Dick O'Brien 13-8-0 (7) (KO 7) Sid Barnes 10-10-3 (4)
[MW] Billy Kelly 15-14-4 (7) (TKO 7) Jerry Slattery 2-36-0

November 14, 1896
[MW] (WBC) Harris Martin 23-0-0 (16) v/s Charles Turner 24-2-0 (18)
Martin is making his second title defense tonight and looks good coming in. The problem with Martin tonight is that Tommy Ryan is in the crowd and Martin can't quit jawing at him. You might remember Martin called him out after his last fight but Ryan just blew it off. Ryan hasn't got back in his face here tonight but you can tell Martin is starting to wear on him. Martin better stay focused because Turner looks like he has come to fight tonight.
In the first round you could tell Martin is wanting to end this fight quick. Turner had no idea of how to react to the constant barrage of Martin but he did survive the round. You could tell the attack took its toll on Turner because he started carrying is hands low close to the end of the round. Rounds two and three were quite boring but round four was all action with Turner getting the best of it. Round five was just the continuance of round four but with Martin coming out on top. The sixth round both men tried to show their defense but Turner's was better not ot mention his counter punching. Round seven was another all action stanza with Martin seemingly taking the edge. The eighth round was nothing to brag about but the ninth was a boxing clinic by Harris Martin. The tenth and eleventh round Turner demonstrated great defense keeping the Champion out of range and landing big shots to the head and body. round twelve was more of Turner showing his control but the thirteenth was another brawling round with Turner seemingly getting the better of it. Early on in the fourteenth Turner was continuing to out class the Champ but his confidence got too high and he got caught with a big hook and hit the canvas. Turner made it to his feet at the count of three but he got pummelled the rest of the round. Martin thinking he had the fight won came out in the fifteenth round just trying to cover up and stay on his feet and Turner took advantage of that strategy. Turner landed big punch after big punch but Martin stayed on his feet the whole time. Lets go to the scorecards.
Dave Parris 145-141 for Martin
Manfred Kuechler 143-142 for Turner
Malik Waleed 145-140 for the winner and still WBC Middleweight Champion, Harris Martin.
(WBC) Harris Martin 24-0-0 (16) (SD 15) Charles Turner 24-3-0 (18)
*After the decision was announced, Martin pointed his glove at Ryan telling him to bring it on. We caught Tommy Ryan, the WBC Welterweight Champion, on his way out and he said "I actually just want to see these two fight again.". I happen to agree with him. I just hope the organisation make this happen.
Undercard:
[MW] George LaBlanche 18-4-1 (8) (TKO 12) Peter Newton 20-4-3 (13)
[WW] Billy Gallagher 17-4-2 (2) (UD 10) Bob Smith 19-7-1 (2)
[HW] Dominick McCaffrey 17-5-1 (5) (UD 10) Duncan McDonald 14-8-4 (3)
[HW] Mike Conley 14-6-2 (11) (TKO 6) Jim Fogarty 15-10-2 (8)
[FW] Chiddy Ryan 12-12-2 (4) (MD 8) Tommy Barnes 9-9-4 (1)

November 21, 1896
[LW] (WBC) Joe Gans 23-1-0 (6) v/s Stanton Abbott 20-1-1 (11)
Gans is making his third title defense tonight and stated before the fight that he wants to impress his fans tonight. Abbott has been looking to get a title shot for a while and wants hopes to make the best of it tonight.
The fight opens with Gans doing just what he has done his whole career, starting slow but trying to steal the round in the last thirty seconds. In the second round Gan's superior hand speed was evident as he out landed Abbott 49 to 7. Rounds three through five were more of the same. In the fifth some noticeable swelling became visible around Abbott's left eye. The sixth round was close with Abbott landing the more powerful shots and stealing the round from the Champion. In round Seven Gan's targetted the swelling left eye of Abbott causing the swelling to grow worse. Rounds eight and nine were slower action rounds but the Champion did enough to win them both. The swelling around Abbott's eye seems to have become a factor because he took a beating in the tenth round. Some nice action in the eleventh but Gan's hand speed is just too much for Abbott to deal with at this point. In round 12 Gan's cut loose with his hands and really laid it on Abbott causing that eye to really swell up. Round thirteen was all Gans again. Round fourteen was maybe the worst of the whole fight. Gans appeared to just give it to Abbott. Gans fought defensive and used his counter punching to keep Abbott away in the last round. We go to the scorecards.
Luis Escalona 145-140
Anek Hongtongkam 148-138
Terry O'Connor 147-138 all for the winner and still WBC Lightweight Champion, Joe Gans.
(WBC) Joe Gans 24-1-0 (6) (UD 15) Stanton Abbott 20-2-1 (11)
Undercard:
[WW] Young Corbett 22-4-0 (10) (DQ 8) Joe Walcott 21-3-1 (4)

[WW] Jim Janey 11-5-2 (8) (KO 7) Tommy Williams 19-4-1 (13)
[LHW] Jem Mace 17-3-2 (3) (UD 8) Dick Ellis 14-9-3 (6)
[HW] Ed Smith 13-6-6 (3) (UD 8) Viro Small 16-17-2 (3)

November 28, 1896
[BW] (WBC) Billy Plimmer 22-2-1 (7) v/s Ike Weir 19-4-1 (4)
Plimmer came out banging in round one dropping Weir not once but twice. Weir had to beg the ref to allow him to continue after the second knockdown. He survived the first round but it doesn't look good for him. Plimmer came out a little too confident and Weir caught him with a big uppercut and dropped him. Plimmer survived the round but looked bad going to his corner. The third round was very slow as both fighters are fearful of the others power. Round four picked up a little with Weir doing the more effective work. The fifth round Plimmer decided to let his hands go and it payed off. The ref stopped the fight at the 2:37 mark of the round because Weir could not find a way to keep Plimmer off him. Plimmer defends his belt for the fourth time.
(WBC) Billy Plimmer 23-2-1 (8) (TKO 5) Ike Weir 19-5-1 (4)
Undercard:
[HW] Joe McAuliffe 14-8-0 (12) (KO 10) Steve O'Donnell 15-7-1 (5)

December 1896

December 5, 1896
LHW (WBC) Bob Fitzsimmons 24-2-0 (23) v/s Prof. Charles Hadley 17-2-3 (4)
Ruby Robert demonstrated why he is the Champ in the opening round by giving Hadley a boxing lesson. The second round went about the same as the first except for Hadley being a little more active. Hadley learned some thing in round 3 that several others have, you don't leave yourself open when Fitz comes in close. Fitzsimmons caught him with a hard combo and down he goes for the count.
(WBC) Bob Fitzsimmons 25-2-0 (24) (KO 3) Prof. Charles Hadley 17-3-3 (4)
Undercard:
[MW] John Banks 23-6-1 (13) (KO 4) John Laurie 17-7-2 (8)
[FLY] Young Berry 11-9-5 (DQ 9) Eddie Avery 14-9-4 (7)
[HW] Tom Allen 12-10-5 (1) (SD 10) James Couper 15-11-3 (7)
[HW] Paddy Ryan 11-8-8 (6) (KO 4) John Scholes 11-11-1 (1)
[WW] Bob Allen 6-21-2 (MD 8) Abe Ullman 3-8-0 (1)

December 12, 1896
[WW] (WBC) Tommy Ryan 21-0-0 (13) v/s Utah Bob Thompson 22-0-3 (11)
Ryan told us at the weigh in that he had some trouble making the weight but you couldn't tell it by looking at him, he looks amazing. Thompson also looked to be in top physical condition.
The opening round didn't bode well for Thompson, Ryan was able to muscle inside and land some hard shots to the head. Thompson stayed on his feet but everyone could see he was hurting. Rounds two and three were more of Ryan showing why he is the Champ. The fourth and fifth are pretty much the same, Thompson is just out matched tonight. Round six was all Ryan but Thompson found his range in the seventh, stealing the round from the Champion. Well the seventh must have been a fluke because Ryan took control back in the eighth. The ninth and tenth rounds went just the way Ryan wanted them to. There is some light swelling around Thompson's right eye now. The swelling has become more pronounced now in the eleventh as Ryan continues to target it. In rounds twelve and thirteen Ryan continued his dominance over Thompson. Round fourteen was another big one for the Champion. Atleast Thompson might be able to say he went the distance with Ryan but thats about it. The last round was the best action round of the whole fight with Ryan still getting the better of it. Lets go to the scorecards.
Jim LeBel 147-138
George Smith 149-136
Shafeeq Rashada 148-137 all for the winner and still WBC WW Champion, Tommy Ryan.
(WBC) Tommy Ryan 22-0-0 (13) (UD 15) Utah Bob Thompson 22-1-3 (11)
Undercard:
[BW] Mike Coburn 11-5-6 (5) (TKO 5/cuts) Jimmy Gorman 18-2-0 (13)
[MW] Jack Dempsey 23-3-1 (13) (Maj. Draw 10) Jack Bonner 19-2-4 (8)
[MW] Mike Lucie 19-3-0 (15) (UD 10) Billy Leedam 17-5-2 (2)
[MW] Frank Craig 22-3-1 (14) (Draw 8) Ed Binney 17-4-3 (8)
[LW] Marcellus Baker 16-15-2 (2) (UD 8) Ed McGlinchey 10-12-3 (1)

December 19, 1896
[FW] (WBC) Young Griffo 21-0-1 (7) v/s Tim Hegarty 15-1-2 (3)
Griffo started out slow but picked it up in the latter half of the round and inflicted some damage to the right eye of Hegarty. Round two was very boring but round three was great. Ryan seemed to have won both of those rounds. In the fourth the Champion was dropped and cut over his left eye. Round five Griffo caused a cut over Hegarty's right eye which is already swollen. Griffo continued his fast pace in round six and seems to have complete control now. The seventh and eighth rounds show more of the Champion's skills as he is keeping Hegarty guessing at how to catch him. In round nine the cut over Hegarty's eye gets reopened but the ref and doctor decide to let the fight continue and again Hegarty just gets out boxed. Round ten it seemed both fighters took a breather but Griffo did enough to win the round. Round eleven and twelve were more of the same story with Griffo easily winning. Hegarty's cut was reopened in round twelve but again the ref and doctor let the fight continue. Round thirteen proved to be another page out of the same book we have been reading. Early in the fourteenth Griffo's cut was reopened but the fight was allowed to continue. Later in the fourteenth Hegarty's cut was reopened again and this time the doctor called for the stoppage giving Griffo a TKO victory and retention of his belt.
(WBC) Young Griffo 22-0-1 (8) (TKO 14/cuts) Tim Hegarty 15-2-2 (3)
Undercard:
[LHW] (HNAC) Joe Choynski 26-1-0 (21) (TKO 9) Henry Baker 20-6-2 (12)
[BW] Casper Leon 20-3-4 (7) (UD 10) Jack Hare 18-8-3 (6)
[HW] Tom Hyer 16-7-4 (6) (SD 10) Joe Coburn 14-8-1 (4)
[FLY] Alf Gower 14-12-5 (4) (UD 8) Fred Sullivan 16-20-5
[HW] Frank Glover 13-14-1 (4) (MD 8) George Thompson 15-17-4 (3)

December 26, 1896
[FLY] (WBC) Jimmy Anthony 18-4-1 (8) v/s Chappie Moran 18-3-1 (3)
The first round was a decent action round and it seemed the Champion did just enough to get the nod. Round two was fast paced with the Champ still coming out on top. The third round was all Anthony as Moran could not find him. The action slowed in the fourth and Moran took advantage by doing just enough to steal the round. Moran seems to have found the range as he easily won the fifth. Another close round but we have to give the sixth to the Champ. Round seven was all action with Anthony coming out on top. Both of Moran's eyes are showing some swelling after that slugfest. The eighth round was all Moran. In round nine Anthony landed some quick shots early but he walked right into a nast cross from Moran and fell to the canvas. Anthony could not regain his feet before the count of ten. Winner and new WBC Fly Champion by knockout, Chappie Moran.
(WBC) Chappie Moran 19-3-1 (4) (KO 9) Jimmy Anthony 18-5-1 (8)
Undercard:
[HW] Mike Cleary 18-6-0 (11) (UD 12) Patsy Cardiff 17-8-2 (9)

Plimmer seems to always give the crowd their money's worth.

He has done fairly well against tough competition. He beat Jimmy Barry by unanimous decision in their second fight. The first fight between those two was a draw. He lost an early fight to DQ and the other losses came to the Champ, Billy Plimmer and his last challenger, Ike Weir. If he wins his next fight he will be eligible to fight for the title again. Plimmer just got a majority decision over him in their last fight.

he has been in some brawls. The funny part is 4 of his 8 knockouts came in his last six fights.

Chris, I may have found what you are looking for. Dal Hawkins is the fighter I found it under. Here is what it says.

World Featherweight Title
After 72 rounds, Referee Eddie Graney declared: "Boys, you've had enough for one night. We'll resume this battle tomorrow." He then promptly left. Gamblers bet on which boxer would not show the next day. Brogan won by knockout after 15 more rounds. Note- According to the San Francisco Chronicle, this bout took place on June 4, 1890. The "City (San Francisco) Bantamweight Title" was at stake. The two boxers had fought seventy-five rounds at the same venue on the evening of June 3, 1890, but the boring bout was stopped at 2 a.m. and was to resume at 8 p.m. Bogan's listed opponent was "Dan Hawkins." The last fifteen rounds of the bout was "very satisfactory."

I hope that helps. I will continue to keep an eye for anything like it.

I want to sim this fight now but I have to make myself wait and just build it up even more. I don't think Tommy will have trouble with him but you never know in this game.
