Gangs of New York
I am starting a new universe with a fictional story line, but using real fighters. I took all of the fighters in the V2.5 data base from 1890 until 2007. I ended up with 5625 fighters in all of the 17 weight divisions. Then I took all of the divisions and narrowed them down to the original 8 divisions:
Number of fighters Heavyweight...1146 Light Heavyweight...560 Middleweight...744 Welterweight...818 Lightweight...719 Featherweight...588 Bantamweight...470 Flyweight...580All fighters will start their careers at the same time. I will not use Tomato Cans. After I get the story off of the ground (which isn’t all that original… ) then I will start the universe. I am going to let the computer do as much as possible. I will use the auto-scheduler quite a bit. |

I see some great matchups coming. I kind of want to do this myself but the historical is the way I went. I will be reading this as I do all the others.

The year is 1899. The mayor of New York City is Robert Van Wyck. He has been major since 1898 when New York’s five boroughs where consolidated into a single city. He is generally considered to be a weak major and has little public support. The corrupt political machine, Tammany Hall, is in full swing. Crime is running rampant in the city and it is estimated there are over 100,000 gang members.
However, there is a breath of fresh air in the city. That is with the Police Commissioner, Theodore Roosevelt. He has recognized the gang problem and has appointed a new gang czar, Leonard “Bobo” Morrison, a former pugilist. Morrison has come up with a plan. He has formed 8 boxing clubs in the city’s most notorious areas: 1) Bedford-Stuyvesant 2) Coney Island 3) South Bronx 4) Five Points 5) The Bowery 6) Hell’s Kitchen 7) Harlem 8) Flatbush Each club will invite gang members to train and fight in their club. Gang members are welcome in any club, but cannot join a club from their own area. This will cause gang members to go to other areas of the city, but to train and fight, not to commit crimes. And these guys do know how to fight, and they love it. So far over 5500 gang members have signed up. They will be divided into 8 weight divisions: 1)Heavyweight 2)Light Heavyweight 3)Middleweight 4)Welterweight 5)Lightweight 6)Featherweight 7)Bantamweight 8)Flyweight Morrison is in the process of selecting the fight venue for each area. Once Morrison gets the ok from city hall on each of the eight venues, he will publish the rules. Morrison has indicated that initially fighters will only compete in their own area. He said that official bouts will begin in January of 1900, although each club has already begun to train. |

Guidelines and rules posted by Gang czar Leonard “Bobo” Morrison.
Each fighter will be given a rating between 0 and 15. This will be based on his fighting skills and record in the ring. This will help in the scheduling. Bouts will be between fighters of no more then 8 rating points difference. The only exception will be the yearly all-city tournament explained below. Fighters must have at least 6 weeks (42 days) of rest between bouts. During the first year, all bouts will be 6 rounds. Fighters can only have bouts against fighters in their own club. Fighters must have 10 bouts to be ranked. Beginning in 1901, fighters can fight outside of their home club. Each month one club will fight exclusively against another club. For instance, Coney Island will fight against South Bronx during the entire month of January. Bouts will take place at both club’s venues. The following month Coney Island would fight exclusively against another club. Each January, beginning in 1902, the top ranked fighter in each club will fight in a city wide single elimination tournament to determine the all-city champion. This is for all weight divisions. All bouts have the following rules: 1. No 3 knockdown rule. 2. 10 point must system. 3. Only saved by the bell in the last round. 4. Only the referee can stop the fight. 5. Accidental head but goes to the scorecards only after the 4th round. 6. No mandatory 8 count. 7. 3 judges will score the fight. |

I'm curious about how you assigned the fighters to their respective clubs.
