Many people have interesting fictional (or little-known) names for their Organizations & Groups. I thought it might be valuable to have these listed in one spot, so that universe creators can have a place to get some ideas.


Mine I used in my last universe:

World - Global Boxing Federation (GBF)

Regional - Boxing Organization of Canada And America (BOCA) for the US and Canada

Regional - Pan-American Boxing Association (PABA) for the remainder of North America, Central America, South America, Caribbean

Regional - Council Of European Boxing Excellence (CEBE) for Europe including all of the former Eastern Bloc

Regional - Intercontinental Boxing Alliance (IBA) for everywhere not listed in the above

I've got two organisations controlling the sport in my universe. The Heavyweight Boxing Federation was formed first and, as the name implies, it runs bouts in the Heavyweight division. But down the line it will be introducing a Junior-Heavyweight (Cruiserweight) division.

There's also the International Boxing League which features the Featherweight, Lightweight, Welterweight, Middleweight and Light-Heavyweight divisions.

As I said, both are in the same universe but they are chronicled in seperate threads (see my signature).

My two favorites are the GBO and the ABC -- respectively, the Generic Boxing Organization and the Acronymic Boxing Council. Did I spell that last word right?

Heroes Of Boxing Organisation


In my original universe I used the Heroes Boxing Council, I aim to add them again later as well as others.

I have one World sanctioning body: EBC-Empire Boxing Council
Eight regional bodies pretty direct:
ABU-African Boxing Union
APBF-Asia-Pacific Boxing Federation
C/BE-Commonwealth/British Empire
CBU-Celtic Boxing Union
EBU-European Boxing Union
LBU-Latino Boxing Union
NABF-North American Boxing Federation
SABF-South American Boxing Federation

All are geographically correct, except that I took a few of the Countries that are part of N.America (but south of Mexico), and included them with S.America to boost the numbers because N.A. was so heavy.

The only one I write about is the Sporting Fisticuffs Society. It's a universe that started in the 1830's, and I've gotten some positive feedback so far. From the number of rounds to the international roster, a boxing historian could tear it apart up and down, but it's not meant to be historically accurate, so it isn't.

What countries are in the Celtic?

Ireland, Northern Ireland and Scotland (they are also part of the European Boxing Union). I may be wrong, but I think Wales is considered a "Celtic" area as well. I'd have to check on that and if so, they will be included too. Even though N.Ireland is part of Britain I put them in the Celtic Union to boost the numbers a bit (it's still a pretty slim region).

Actually no, the Welsh are their own deal. They were the original "Britons" that inhabited the island, and then got pushed into Wales by the Saxons.
