Round 5: Hatton races out of the corner to start the fifth! Hatton bangs Mosley hard to the body. Mosley's backing up against the ropes. Here's comes Ricky Hatton! Hatton savages Mosley's body with thunderous shots! Mosley's hurt! I think Shane Mosley got hurt by that last series of punches from Hatton! Shane Mosley ties up Hatton and referree Zach Clayton separates them. Just when it looked like the tide was turning for Mosley, Ricky Hatton blasts his was back into this fight. Both fighters are back at ring center. They trade right hands... and there's the bell.

Round 6: Shane's working the jab very well as we begin round six. Hatton's weaving, trying to cut down the ring on Mosley. Oh! Nice combination to the body by Hatton! You've gotta wonder is the older Shane Mosley is going to be able to hold up for 15 rounds of this kind of pressure or if he punches will take their toll on Hatton.
A right hand lands for Mosley. Two lefts and a right score from Hatton. Both men go hard to the body. The crowd's on its feet! Hatton nails Mosley with a crisp right hand - Mosley answers with a paralyzing hook to the body at the bell! Shane's father Jack is yelling "Power-boxing, power-boxing!" from the corner. |

We have Tony Galento here for a quick few words on this fight. Tony, what do you think the fight so far?
"Well, this Hatton kid... he's real good. I like him pretty much." What do you think of Mosley so far tonight? "Ah, (waiving his hand) that Mosley's a bum. Him and his father. They're both bums." You think? "Yeah. If Ricky wasn't takin' the fight to him, there'd be no fight. Guys like him don't like takin' chances." |

Round 9: Shane Mosley nails Hatton with a beau-tee-ful right cross right down the pipe! Hatton's hurt! Hatton's hurt! Mosley fires another big right hand but Hatton ducks beneath it and ties Mosley up in a clinch. Hatton had better clear his head. The referee is separating them. Mosley scores with a hook. Mosley with hard uppercut. Hatton left eye is beginning to swell. Mosley's working the jab. Hatton's trying to work his inside. Nice right upper by Mosley... down goes Hatton!
Hatton was dropped by a Mosley uppercut! Here comes the count - 1 2 3 4 Hatton's back on his feet. He nods his head that he's okay and ref's going to let this one continue. Oh, Mosley nails Hatton with a hook to body and a right cross to the head! Mosley's opening up the big guns now! The referee is watching closely... and there's the bell to end the 9th! |

Round 10: Mosley scores with a left to the body here in the 10th. Hatton's eye is still swelling but his corner has seem to have gotten the swelling under control. Mosley seems to have really slowed down this round but Hatton doesn't seem to be interested in taking advantage of it.
Both fighters scoring with single punches. Last year Mosley and Judah fought to a controversial draw. Many at ringside thought Mosley did enough to win... but the 3 judges at ringside thought otherwise. Mosley was so disgusted, he said he didn't even want a rematch. There's the bell ending an uneventful 10th round. |

Round 11: Mosley's working the jab well as we enter the championship rounds. The Mosley jab is snapping Hatton's head back repeatedly. Hatton goes downstairs with a hard hook to the body. Mosley answers firing a six punch combination to the head! Mosley forces Hatton back against the ropes! Shane Mosley's tagging Hatton with some big powershots and this may be the end of the line for Ricky Hatton!
Saved by the bell! |

Round 12: Mosley and Hatton are both looking tired as round 12 begins. I don't think Hatton has enough left keep the pressure on Mosley... but he may catch his second wind. Mosley scoring to the head and body as he offers Hatton side-to-side movement. Hatton hooks to the body and catchs Mosley with a right to the head.
There's the bell. Only three rounds remain! |

Round 14: Ricky Hatton goes on the attack as the 14th round is underway. Hatton's going to need a knockout to win on my card! Mosley slows Hatton with 3 crisp jabs and a left hook to the head! Hatton goes to the Mosley's body and Mosley returns fire! Right hook from Mosley. Down goes Hatton! A right hook right on the button drops Hatton to all fours in ring center! I don't know if he has enough left to get up!
Here comes the count - 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 Hatton barely makes it to his feet! He's back on his feet. There's the bell! Hatton made it back to his corner of his own accord... but you have to wonder if they're going to let him out for the 15th and final round? |

Round 15: Welcome to the 15th round of the Junior Welterweight Championship of the World! Shane Mosley may be three minutes from leaving this ring as the undisputed champion!

Both fighters are embracing in ring center. Hatton's eye is noticeably swollen. If Mosley walks away with the Title tonight, you have to wonder where he'll go from here. Up and coming Miguel Cotto may not have the experience to cope with a Shane Mosley yet. On the other hand, Mosley may not be able to continue to make weight...
Alright, the judges scorecards have been totalled and here's the decision. Judge Mark Green scores the bout: 144-139 Judge Robert Gilson scores it: 142-141 And finally, Judge Tyrone Short scores it - 144-139 for the winner by unanimous decision... and new, undisputed Jr. Welterweight Champion of the World... Sugar... Shane Mosley! No real suprise there. I'll be interviewing the new Champion in just a moment. |

Post Fight Wrap-up
I'm here with the new Champion, Shane Mosley and his father Jack. Jersey-Jim: Shane, congratulations on a big win here tonight. Shane Mosley: Thank you, Jim. JJ: Did you think you were going to stop him? SM: You know, if the knockout comes, you take it. I hurt him, but he was tough and my father kept telling me - box, box, box... don't stand in front of the man. He kept the pressure on. He's a tough guy. JJ: Where do you go from here, Shane? Do you defend the title against a Miguel Cotto or possibly give Hatton a rematch in the UK? SM: You know, I just want to take a vacation. I've accomplished a lot of things in this sport. I'll sit back, talk it over with my wife and we'll see where we'll go from there. JJ: Thank you, Shane. That'll wrap it up for now. Lots of good fights on the horizon so stayed tuned. I'm on my way back to good old Newark to prepare for Tony Galento's highly anticipatd matchup with the Italian Heavyweight King. I'm hoping to see Tony fight a top 10 contender as soon as possible. Two-Ton isn't getting any younger and neither am I! I've got the exclusive on the story and will be betting the house on his next fight. It's getting late, so I'm going to sit back, light up a cigar and have a quick beer before turning down the lights. Such is the life of a freelance writer in Jersey these days. Goodnight from Atlantic City!

The World of Jersey-Jim & Two-Ton Tony
The Jersey-Jim Journal of a Boxing and Profound Insights
Dear Journal, I'm back from last night's fights in AC. The Dodge is runnin' pretty good. The dog crapped all over the floor (make note to feed dog less). There's plenty of beer, cigarettes and coffee on hand to last the week. I'll worry about next week...... next week. Life is pretty good in the small apartment over Tony Galento's bar. Going to see a new kid today who going to lace up the gloves for the first time. I knew the kid when he was in diapers. We called him, Kid Walker. He's 19 and a snot-nosed, dirty-faced punk....... but in a good way. I told him he's fighting for nothin' on the street, come to Tony's basement gym tonight at midnight and we'll start some training. The kid weigh's about 145 dripping wet. I'm figuring we can start the kid out as an "opponent" and make a little dough. If he's got anything, we can work with that, too. I lit up a cigarette and looked at my mug in the mirror this morning. Look like hell. But just about everybody else looks like hell - more, so I guess I'm okay for now. Time to give Tony a call and get ready for tonight's fight! Last edited by Jersey-Jim; 09-10-2008 at 03:48 PM. |

Thanks, Ian.
The boxing card you have in you avatar, if you had the actual card from the early 1900's, you could probably retire after selling it! A boxing card used to be included in a box of cigars during that time period. I think they had a handuful of Jack Johnson's in existance and there were collectors actively seeking them. Tonight’s Fight between Tony Galento and the Italian Heavyweight Champion Franco Cavicchi will not be a live broadcast. I will, however, be sending my write-up on the action within 30 minutes of the fight’s conclusion. The fight is taking place at Ice World in Totowa, New Jersey.
On the undercard, Olympic Gold Medalist Mark Breland with be fighting Rev Santillan of the Philippians. I’m wondering if Cavicchi will be entering the ring tonight with his Italian maiden girls and his Julius Caesar getup like he did when he beat Holmes down in New Orleans? I’m kind of hoping he will… especially if he has that pretty blue-eyed dame with the light brown hair…. But back to the fight… I’m a little worried about this one. Tony’s going to have to get him early or else we may have some problems. Catch you on the other side! |
