For the past 2 days, I've gone from beginning to end of this universe and it's absolutely amazing. The research that went into this, the political (boxing politics AND Cuban politics) knowledge and knowledge integration into the uni, the imagination, the superb write ups, the introduction of new characters mixing fantasy and reality - it's been a very surreal experience. Please tell me that you are currently making money writing movie scripts and novels. If you are not doing it as a living, I hope an agent in the industry reads this and is as impressed as I am. Thanks you for putting as much as you did into the universe. I am now going to start "A Partial Eclipse of the Sonny". I have always been a big fan of "what if" unis and have done several of my own. Thank you for the continuing inspiration with this work of art.

Well written, dragon. As you would have seen from reading the comments in it, this uni was very popular when professor was posting it. It's one of my favourites out of all the ones I've read here.

Walking down a lost path

Accuse me of ego or whatever, I actually forgot all about this...I read it and came to the conclusion that it had to be someone else who wrote and simmed it. It wasn't me!!!

Damn good read...if I say so myself!!!

Other multiple Olympic Gold Medal winners...

Prof this is probably my favorite thread ever and I too love running "what if" unis... I was wondering, when you have some time, if you could share with us what ratings would you use for other multiple winners of the Olympic Gold Medal, such as: Felix Savon (Cuba); Boris Lagutin (USSR); Hector Vinent (Cuba); Ariel Hernandez (Cuba); Angel Herrera (Cuba); Mario Kindelan (Cuba); Jerzy Kulej (Poland); Harry Mallin (GBR); Oleg Saitov (RUS)...?

To be totally honest with you, that's way out of my league! I'm really a "historical" type that doesn't go too far beyond the mid-1980s.

The Stevenson thing was something I'd always wondered about since the mid-1970s, and after some considerable thought, I decided to act it out two years ago.

Much to my embarassment, I'm not at all familiar with any of the fighters (outside of Savon) that you've mentioned.

To put it in perspective, I don't think I've watched a "live" boxing match since the late 1980s. I just live off of memories...old boxing films and yellowed copies of The Ring and Boxing Illustrated.

Still, I'm really pleased that you liked my Stevenson sim. I had a wonderful time putting it together.

Sorry!

Thanks for your replay and your honesty... I know others such as Bear, John Dewey, Dean, etc. are very skilled at rating fighters, do you know if any of them or someone else could help me out with the fighters I mentioned before?

Amateur fighters are not in my comfort zone. My resources and scope of knowledge is focused on professional boxing going back to Figg. I've read a couple of books on the history of Collegiate boxing in the NCAA and at Wisconsin and those guys would be the only ones I'd feel comfortable with.

Years ago, Shane posted some ratings for amateurs and some of these were sent to corner work. A few others were posted in the retrieved 2001 archive thread that I started here in the mods.

In an older mods thread Asian and Oceanic fighter CONN CHRIS posted some amateur medal winners from Asian amateur games. When I talked with him about how he created them he told me he used a template. Sadly he no longer has it, but you could select a weight class from one of the amateur competitons that he posted in the thread and reconstruct the template by downloading the fighters. Gold silver and bronze medalists and the early round opponents should give representative performances.

These are the only consistant efforts at amateurs that I'm aware of in the forums.

Once I get my "sea legs" back, I'm thinking about bringing Stevenson back for a year or so.

I'd love to get him back in the ring, una mas, with Holmes.
