The Squared Circle

My fictional boxing Heavyweight Division universe-¨The Squared Circle¨

Preliminaries-

All heavyweight fighters set to ¨Active¨
All heavyweight fighters career stage set to ¨Beginning¨
¨Auto Aging¨ is on with the following...

Pre-Prime 5-7 bouts
Prime 10-18 bouts
Post Prime 10-30
End 10-20
Retired 10-20

Twenty five fighters pulled at random with every possible ¨active¨ fighter possible to be pulled. Once these 25 fighters are pulled they are given twenty fights against randomly pulled tomato cans in 8rd. bouts to get a record and more importantly an opportunity to reach career prime before moving to the rankings.

Once a fighter gets to retired he is done and moved to retired section to stay. Another fighter is pulled as before and goes through the same procedure as the original 25 fighters before moving to the rankings.

Corner men are set as I wish.

Matchups are set randomly or as I wish but the Champion must fight the No.1 contender at least once a year for the belt(s) he holds.

Four Title Belts. The WBA, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine.

With that done I end up with the following top 10 contenders out of my 25 ranked fighters.

Squared Circle Rankings

1- Meehan Kali Australia 20-0-13
2 -Hide Herbie England 19-1-13
3 -Akinwande Henry England 19-1-12
4 -Krueger Terry United States 16-4-16
5 -Pianeta Francesco Italy 15-3-2-8
6 -Coetzer Pierre South Africa 17-3-1-11
7 -Valdes Nino Cuba 17-3-13
8 -Lovell Pedro Argentina 15-5-13
9 -Norris Orlin United States 16-2-2-4
10-Prater Tommy United States 8-10-2-2

Not exactly the Heavyweight Division from the late 60´s early 70´s but nevertheless I am started.

Only Heavyweight Title fights will be reported here with a ¨Squared Circle Report¨ and poster to add some color and here it is...

The Squared Circle Report
January 1901

Top seated Kali Meehan will face the No.2 ranked Herbie Hide to determine who is Heavyweight Champion of the World. Meehan enters the fight with a perfect record of 20 wins, no losses with 13 knockouts to his credit. Hide carries 19 wins, only one defeat with 13 wins by knockout.

Matchup-

Kali Meehan´s perfect record of twenty wins with no losses speaks for itself. He seems to have good power in 13 KO´s with 30 knock downs in 20 fights. His opponents hitting accuracy of 28% shows his defense is good as well. So far in his career his chin seems rock solid. He has never been down once. His one weakness that may show up in his fight with Hide seems to be his tendency to cut. He has been cut 3 times.

Herbie Hide puts forth a very good record as well. Nineteen wins, one loss. He also seems to have good power in 13 KO´s with 21 knock downs. His one glaring weakness would seem to be his chin. He has been down 3 times and stopped once by KO.

Prediction-

Unless Kali Meehan suffers a bad cut he should win this fight. More than likely by stoppage. Although Herbie Hide has shown decent power it doesn´t seem enough to put down a man that´s never been down in 20 fights. My prediction is a mid to late round stoppage. Meehan over Hide to claim the WBA, WBC, IBF and Ring titles and become undisputed champion.

Kali Meehan vs Herbie Hide

The Squared Circle Post Fight Report

Kali Meehan vs Herbie Hide
WBA, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine Title Fight.

With the Undisputed Championship up for grabs it didn´t take a lot of motivation for Meehan and Hide to get prepared for this fight. Both fighters came to the ring in top condition.

With anouncements and last instructions out of the way referee Mills Lanes signaled for the bell and it was on.

Hide showed he was there for business with his first punch of the fight being a vicious left hook that stunned Meehan. As the round went on Hide seemed determined to throw my Squared Circle Prediction out the window scoring once with a smashing cross and at 02:26 a wicked four-punch combination. Although Meehan got in a few good shots of his own the first round clearly belonged to Hide with him winning on all 3 score cards.

Hide began the second round where he left off with the first by scoring a huge uppercut to start the round. But at a minute and a half in round 2 Meehan seemed to come alive and began landing good shots. At 02:12 of round two in came Hides chin that I questioned.

Meehan landed a hard combination to the head and Hide went down. Mills Lane reached the count of 7 before hide picked himself off the mat. Hide went on to survive round two but the tempo was set.

In round 3 Meehan was in his stride and dominating the action. By the middle of the round Hide had formed some nasty swelling under his left eye. Round 4 was a fairly even round with Hide coming back strong but not enough to change the momentum.

In round 5 Hide did manage to change the fight momentum momentarily by out scoring Meehan but both fighters seemed to take the round off by not
producing a lot action.

Round six saw Hide attempting to turn the fight permanently opening with a strong hook that scored. Perhaps it was the need to put Hide in check or break his growing momentum but at 1:11 Meehan threw a blatant head butt. Referee Mills Lane immediatley called time, heavily scolded Meehan and signaled for a point deduction. Clearly he was going to tolerate no rough tactics.

Round Seven. A pivotal round for two reasons. It was Herbie Hides best round scoring his best punches on Meehan and...at the end of it he became tired. It was Hides high water mark.

The final round, round eight.

As I suspected, Hides chin would not hold up. He had already went once in this fight and at 0:53 of round 8 Meehan scored with an uppercut, Hide stumbled forward and went down. He gamely got up at 3 but there was too much time left in the round and Meehan was all over him.

Seconds later a thundering cross sent him down again. Hide struggled to get up making it to one knee but was counted out and we have a new era in boxing.

Kali Meehan knocks out Herbie Hide at 01:37 of Round 8 and becomes Undisputed Heavyweight Champion..As predicted.

The Squared Circle Report
July 1901

Undisputed Heavyweight Champion, Kali Meehan, will defend his titles against the No.1 ranked contender, Henry Akinwande. Meehan enters the fight with a perfect record of 21 wins, no losses with 14 knockouts to his credit. Akinwande carries 20 wins, only one defeat, with 12 wins by
knockout.

This will be Meehans first attempt to defend his titles after gaining the championship in a spectacular 8th round knockout over Herbie Hide.

Matchup-

Kali Meehan´s perfect record and his championship will be put in jeopardy in this bout. . Akinwande is a more accurate puncher with a 42% accuracy rating compared to Meehan´s 38%. As well Akinwande has a better defense.

Although Meehan has never been off his feet it isn´t a huge advantage as Akinwande has been down only once in his career and never stopped. Akinwande´s one loss is somewhat of an illusion also as this loss came from a disqualificaion against David Defiagbon.

Prediction-

I predict a close fight but Akinwandes solid chin, better offense and defense will be too much for Meehan. Meehan will fight hard through all 12 rounds but in the end Akinwande´s superior boxing ability and solid chin will gain him the championship.

Akinwande over Meehan, unanimous 12rd. decision.

Meehan-vs-Akinwande

The Squared Circle Post Fight Report
July 1901

Kali Meehan vs Henry Akinwande
WBA, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine Title Fight.

Hoping to make his first succesful title defense Meehan entered the ring in top condition. The challenger, Akinwande, seemed just as determined to take Meehans titles judging from his appearance. He had definately trained hard for the fight.

Round one saw both fighters wishing to establish themselves with both scoring well. At the end of the first round both fighters seemed evenly matched with the rounds victor being a toss up.

Round 2 went as the first. It was anyones round and so far anyones fight.

In round 3 the Champion, Meehan, opened up his arsenal scoring a hard right cross to start. Then a pair of stiff combinations and capping his assault off with a hard cross to the body. Akinwande retailiated with shots of his own but Meehans mid round flurry was enough to take the round.

Round 4 saw Akinwande come back strong wanting to show Meehan he was still in the fight and intent to take his title. Meehan showed no sign of wavering and looked just as intent on keeping his belts. Another round ended with no clear winner to it.

At 01:55 of Round 5 Akinwande put together a smashing combination that dropped the Champion. Meehan was down. This was the first time in his career that Meehan had been down. Cotton reached the count of 9 with Meehan barely beating the count. It didn´t look good for Meehan. Cotton took a close look and although Meehan didn´t look good he let it continue. The rest of the round saw Akinwande unloading every shot in the book on Meehan.

Rounds 6 through 8 saw the Champion Meehan come back strong however and he won these rounds.

Round 9. End of the fight. Akinwande opened the round using the big guns. Hard uppercuts and tremendous lefts. He was letting it all hang out in Round 9. Eddie Cotton was taking long looks at Meehan and seemed close to stopping it when Akinwande landed a crushing cross. Meehan went down and out.

As the announcement was being made ¨...and new Heavyweight Champion...¨ Meehan was still on the stool still confused as to what was happening.

Akinwande wins by Knockout, 02:42 of round 9 to become the new Heavyweight Champion.

Interesting though Meehan was winning the fight on all 3 score cards up to this point.

78-73
77-74
76-75

I had predicted a 12 rd UD for Akinwande so I was pretty far off on this one.

A rematch could prove interesting.

Kali Meehan-vs Henry Akinwande II

The rematch.

Heavyweight Champion Henry Akinwande and No.1 contender Kali Meehan will fight for the Undisputed Heavyweight Championship of the World.

Boxing fans will be aware this will be a rematch as Akinwande knocked out, then Heavyweight champion, Meehan just 5 months prior with Meehan leading on all score cards.

The No.2 contender Nino Valdez has secured a contract to fight the winner of the match for the title.

Prediction-

Although it was suprising to see Meehan leading on all the cards in their first match when he was suprisingly KO´d I still believe Akinwande is the better fighter. As Meehan was knocked down in round 5, and then later knocked out in round 9 I will predict...

Akinwande over Meehan by stoppage between rounds 9-12

Nice start to your Universe, and I also have to echo the sentiments of Jim, as I also love the posters.

Posters

Yes the posters are fun and easy to do.

Each Champion will have his own ¨style¨of poster to visually see their reign and time as champion quickly.

Reason why I change the poster style when Akinwande became champion. I do have to edit his poster though and repost. I did that one quickly and mistyped the word ¨Championship¨, missed the ¨P¨ there.

Edit-spelling error on poster fixed.

Akinwande vs Meehan II

The Squared Circle Post Fight Report
December 1901

Henry Akinwande vs Kali Meehan II
WBA, WBC, IBF and Ring Magazine Title Fight.

Both Akinwande and Meehan entered the ring in great shape. Pre fight
rumors that Meehan may have worked a little too hard in training did not
seem to play a factor in the match.

The fireworks for this exciting match began in round 3. At 0:36 a crisp
Akinwande hook dropped Meehan on his back. He regained his feet
quickly at 3 and referee Mills Lane looked him over as he gave him the
standing eight count.

Feeling he could end the fight there quickly Akinwande launched a
vicious assault with Meehan totally on the defensive. At 02:56 a wild
right hand landed flush by Akinwande and Meehan dropped down to
one knee. A second knockdown in round 3 had been scored but with just seconds remaining Meehan was able to survive the round.

The next two rounds saw Meehan rebound well against Akinwande taking both of these rounds on the scorecards convincingly.

Through rounds 4 to 9 it was clear the fight was a real brawl. Back and
forth the advantage had changed hands as Meehan had worked himself
back into a close fight on the score cards.

But in round 10 lighting again struck for Akinwande. A wicked body shot
dropped Meehan
down to his knees and referee Mills Lane picked up
the count. Another knockdown against Meehan had been scored.

Refusing to go away quietly Meehan rebounded in round 11 by landing
a short right hand flush at 02:36 that dropped the Champion Akinwande!
He was able to get to his feet at 8 but looked in really bad shape. He did
go on to survive the round but after that stunning knockdown once again
Meehan but was back into the fight.

Twelve and final round.

Both fighters came off their stools and touched gloves. Akinwandes left eye was swollen and both looked exhausted but determined. Both corners had told their fighters they needed a knockout to win and indeed the score was close. Then at 0:35 Akinwande landed a tremendous hook to Meehans liver and he dropped to his knees gasping for air. Lane motioned Akinwande to a neutral corner and started the count.

7...8...9 Meehan was not going to make it up! 10!!

Akinwande retains his throne by 12th round knockout in this instant classic title fight.

I predicted...¨Akinwande over Meehan by stoppage between rounds 9-12¨
