Season 3 Draft Rules

In an effort to try and get the draft to run more smoothly than last season, I would like to approach things a bit differently. I do not want everyone wasting an entire weekend in order to get this completed. If you will not be available, please PM me (Romultiltus) with your selections as well as a list of alternates in case either the fighter or ratings slot is not available.

If you choose to just send me a wish list - such as "highest rated fighter available" "6-rated MW" "any 7-rated fighter", I will make a selection for you based on a list of fighters posted below.

I am trying to combine aspects of the original UTBA league draft (which just had a fighter list from which to pick from) and last season's UTBA-II draft (pick anyone from the DB from a list of available ratings) In order to accomplish this, I have selected a bunch of fighters from the DB that match up to the pre-defined rating available for the draft.

I will use this list to make selections based on PM's sent to me outlined with general wish list requests such as the ones mentioned above. IMORTANT NOTE: The fighters listed below will only be available for the draft and if not selected will not be put into the Free Agent/Waiver Wire pool and therefore will be unavailable during the Regular Season.

This list of fighters is available for anyone to pick from if you wish and does not stop you from drafting anyone from the DB as long as the rating of the fighter is still available on the Draft Board.
  • The Season 3 Draft will officially start on Saturday 30 May 2009 (Time 11:00am EST)
  • Each team will have 10 minutes to make a selection. (24 x 10 minutes = 4 hours) Round 1 ends @ 3:00pm EST.
  • Round 2 will begin on Saturday 30 May 2009 (Time 5:00pm)
  • Round 3 will begin on Sunday 31 May 2009 (Time 11:00am)

Season 3 Draft (reminder)

Reminder ... The Season 3 Draft will take place this Saturday/Sunday (30/31 May 2009). Round 1 will start @ 11:00am EST.

If you will not be online for the draft, please PM me (Romultiltus) with your picks. Please include alternate choices in case either your selection has already been chosen or if the weight class rating is no longer available.

If you send me a PM with a general draft outline such as ...

"Draft highest available rated fighter"
or
"Draft a 7-rated MW"

... I will make a draft selection for you from the list of fighters at the end of the last post.

Please PM me with any trades. As always, trades may
include fighters, current draft picks or future season draft picks.

When you are on the clock, you may either post your selection directly in this thread, or send me a PM and I will post it.

If you do not make a selection in the alloted 10-minute time, you will forfeit your pick - NO EXCEPTIONS - so if you want to participate in the draft, please send me a PM if you will not online during the draft.

During the draft, the 105-point cap limit will be waived - which means that you can amass as many fighters as you wish via your available draft picks and/or trades.

Once the draft ends, the waiver wire will open. All teams may participate in the waiver rounds - whether or not you participated in the draft. Waiver-wire rules will be posted after the conclusion of the draft.

----------------------------------------------------

Below is a list of all fighters available in the Free Agent Pool that are available for the draft. Any rating with a "???" instead of a name indicates that any fighter in the DB is available at that rating. During the draft, once a non-listed fighter is selected for a rating listed as "???" that spot will no longer be open for the rest of the draft. During the Draft, I will keep this list updated so that everyone can clearly see what "???" choices are left.

I have no idea how to prepare a draft list with this form of draft, and I can not be there. I guess Juggernaut will forfiet all picks.

Hebron still would like to trade its first rounder.

Best offer will be excepted but all that I want is:

a 6 rated LHW

or

Any combination of draft picks in the next draft.

Best offer gets it.

Quick Note: I made a minor screw-up with the HW Division. I originally posted that there would not be a 9-rated HW in the draft. After reviewing the list that included possible fighters available that I would pick from based on PM's received on draft day, I listed: (9) Roscoe Toles, Sergei Kobozev

In the interest of being fair (and not screwing up anyone's draft plan) I have added 1 9-rated HW spot to the draft.

Mavrovic is a 9....Berbick is an 8. Not sure if the league database is updated. Scott is a 6 and Squires is a 4 I believe.

Everyone's working on their picks and I'm stuck just working! Just got home and I have a grinder tomorrow. I could be persuaded to trade my 2nd & 3rd round picks. I'd like to trade a few adversaries at work, but that ain't gonna happen! Looks like another banner Bink season!

Send a list to Dave
Tell him in this order Id like
8 rated HW
6 rated WW
7 rated HW
etc
etc

then tell him the fighter you want at them particular ratings. Its really easier then the previous way because you have more fighters to choose from.

If you were going to be around later in the day Id trade my 1st rounder(#22) and Torontos 2nd rounder(#25) for your 1st rounder(#13) then u could make your picks.

This offer stands for anyone I would combo them two picks to move up in the 1st round

With all of the updates to ratings, I knew that this would come up sooner or later. Right now, the UTBA-II DB has not changed since Scot (SAL) created the league. None of the ratings updates have been incorporated into the game yet.

Anyone who requested a copy of the DB has received this version.

Here's the dilemma: If the entire DB is updated, there is a possibility that ratings of several fighters currently active in the league may have changed. For continuity sake, I don't think it would be a good idea to do this, as it could affect the cap numbers for teams with any of these fighters with different ratings.

As for adding a fighter to the league, I really don't see an issue with using a 'new' rating that is now the official downloaded version. Also, guys may pick a fighter who happens to not be in the original DB.

With the current hiatus of Scot (SAL), I really did not want to address this issue right now, but now that its out there, does anyone have any ideas or feedback?

Being only a day away from the draft, I don't want to make a really big deal about this. When I get some time, I will make a copy of the UTBA-II universe and try and update the DB - just to see what happens and how many fighters are affected.

The Database should remain the same as it was when we started. That's the answer I got when I joined.

Claybor
Thread 222 listed available fighters from the waiver pool and weight classes with blank ratings. You can either select one of the waiver guys or any fighter with a blank rating in any weight class. If you can't be around for the draft itself all you need to do is to send Dave fighters in a weight class for him to draft for you. Its a chance to mprove your team so I'd encourage you to atleast send Dave some kind of instructions. Loook at your roster, see what you might like to improve and go from there.

All you'd really need to do is select the active roster and the waiver pool to be excluded from the update and update the rest. Mass editing should make it a snap

I sent some quick instructions for the 1st rounder, thats about all I have time for tonite. I would love to see this draft method scrapped as I find it very annoying rather then enjoyable, but I realize others like it.

UTBA-II is always open for constructive criticism and suggestions on how to make the league more enjoyable for all.

How exactly would you like to see the draft run. Post #221 in this thread lists a bunch of fighters for each weight class that can be chosen. These fighters correspond to the weight class ratings that are available for for those who wish to choose themselves from the entire database.

I added this option as a bit of a compromise for anyone who preferred the old drafting system from UTBA-I. It also showed everyone a list from which I would pick from when given general drafting instructions via PM.

If there is another way to run the draft, please let us know. (Keep in mind, I have never run a league before, and as everyone knows, took over for Scot (SAL) after his latest disappearance.)

I don't care too much for it either. SAL developed it so that different high end prospects would come in gradually. He put in the blanks with ranking numbers to allow managers more freedom in selections. Initially there was just a list of guys we were limited too.
My preference would be a little more open format with just the available rankings without the assigned weight class. One +11 rated fighter at any weight

I'm woefully under-prepared for the draft tomorrow, so my 2nd & 3rd round picks are available for some picks next year. I'm drafting in the #7 slot each round, which could be an incentive for a sleeper pick! I wish everyone well in the draft tomorrow. Right about now, I'd like a draft beer and then bed!

I personally preferred the way we used to do the draft, with different owners responsible for stocking various weight classes pre-draft. But as I recall, we already voted to change from that practice, so probably not much good in arguing the point.
