Fight recap
This one was a war right from the beginning. The crowd was also into the fight from the opening bell. Barry and Plimmer were both coming forward and the inside fighting was brutal.

In round 6, Plimmer opened a cut on Barry’s lip with a hard left hook. Barry returned the favor when Plimmer was cut over his right eye from a jab in the 7th.

Going into the 11th round, the fight was fairly even and both fighters were bloodied and neither was giving an inch. Toward the end of the round the referee stopped the fight so the ring doctor could examine the cut over Plimmer’s right eye. He let the fight continue.

48 seconds into the 12th round, the referee again had the ring doctor examine the cut. It appeared to be a bad one. After conferring with the ring doctor, the referee called the fight. Plimmer pleaded his case, but to no avail.

Barry won the fight by TKO and retained his bantamweight title.

Historical bout

Notable debut in 1901

Jem Driscoll
("Peerless" Jem Driscoll)
BORN…December 15 1880; Cardiff, Wales
DIED…January 10 1925; Cardiff, Wales
HEIGHT…5-6
WEIGHT…122-126 lbs

Driscoll was one of the best featherweight fighters of All-Time; He was clever, quick and willing; He was also slick and elusive; When he was struck, usually it was only a glancing blow

Jem first learned the tricks of his trade by fighting in the boxing booths of Britain, where he took on all-comers as he toured throughout the land; Once he turned professional, he lost only three bouts during his entire career of 19 years

Nat Fleischer ranked Driscoll as the #2 All-Time Featherweight; Charley Rose ranked Jem as the #3 All-Time Featherweight; Herb Goldman ranked him as the #2 All-Time Featherweight; Driscoll was inducted into the Ring Boxing Hall of Fame in 1956 and the International Boxing Hall of Fame in 1990.
