Professional Boxing Replay starting in 1900

This universe is a replay of professional boxing starting in 1900. Since it is a Professional Boxing Replay, the governing body will be the PBR.

Each fighter will begin his career in the year he actually started. The computer will decide when they retire.

Here are the aging stages:
  • Pre-prime after 5-15
  • Prime after 10-15
  • Post-prime after 15-30
  • End after 10-20
  • Retire after 5-15

Fighters will have between 45 and 90 fights in their careers.

Fighters that debut in a given year will fight as follows:
  • First six months...4 rounds with 40 days rest against TC's
  • Next 12 month...6 rounds with 60 days rest against TC's
  • Next 18 months...8 rounds with 90 days rest against TC's

After three years the fighters will join the ranks of the PBR. PBR boxers will fight 10 round bouts with at least 120 days rest.

Fighters in contention for a championship bout, usually top 10 fighters, will fight 12 round bouts with at least 120 days rest.

Champions will have to defend their title twice a year against a top 10 fighter.

I simmed 10 years, so that beginning in 1900 real fighters have their careers already established.

Some top fighters have already been retired by the computer.
  • James Corbett
  • George Dixon
  • Bobby Dobbs
  • Young Griffo
  • Harry Laing
  • Peter Maher
  • Tommy Ryan

The PBR will have 8 weight divisions.

Championship bouts will be scheduled in the first six months of 1900. Hopefully, along the way there will be some rematches of historical bouts.

Two notable fighters make their debut in 1900

Abe Attell
(Abraham Washington Attell)
(the "Little Champ")
BORN February 22 1884; San Francisco, California
DIED February 7 1970; New Paltz, New York
HEIGHT.. 5-4
WEIGHT 118-133 lbs

Attell was one of the outstanding fighters in ring history; He ranked among the greatest featherweights who ever fought, arguably the best ever; Abe knew every trick in the book - and then some; He was a clever boxer who relied more on his skills than his punching; He was slippery and elusive, also game and durable.

**********************************************
Owen Moran
(the "Fearless")
BORN October 4 1884; Birmingham, England
DIED March 17 1949; Birmingham, England
HEIGHT 5-3
WEIGHT 108-133 lbs

Moran was a quality fighter, one of the greatest to hail from England; He was clever, quick, slippery and loaded with "savvy"; He lost but 16 "official" verdicts in 98 bouts but scored only 19 knockouts; During his career, he was a top contender for the Lightweight Championship of the World and the Featherweight Championship of the World - and won the BBBC Flyweight Championship of Great Britain.

Ferns vs. Smith results

World Welterweight Championship bout...January 15, 1900...Buffalo, New York

Rube Ferns
  • United States
  • Record: 18-2-1 (8)
  • Career stage: prime
  • Conditioning: over trained

Mysterious Billy Smith
  • Canada
  • Record: 33-5-1 (14)
  • Career stage: post prime
  • Conditioning: top condition

Stats
  • Result: Ferns KO14
  • Knockdowns scored: Ferns 1, Smith 0
  • Punching accuracy: Ferns 43.4%, Smith 25.9%
  • Scoring: 125-123, 124-123, 125-122 all for Ferns

Fight recap:

Smith appeared to be in much better shape than Ferns. Ferns was the busier fighter in the early rounds and had a comfortable lead by the 8th round, but then he was stunned twice in that round. Ferns managed to come back and toward the end of the fight fatigue became a big factor for Smith, as he was constantly clinching. Smith managed a big rally in the 13th and easily took that round. Ferns came on strong in the 14th and put Smith down with a huge right hand. Smith couldn't get up off of the canvas. Ferns becomes the first Welterweight World Champion.

Historical bout:

Ferns won by DQ in the 21st round. Ferns was down an amazing 15 times.

World Heavyweight Championship Bout…New York

Hank Griffin...
#1 contender
  • United States
  • Record: 37-2-2 (29)
  • Career stage: post-prime
  • Conditioning: badly overweight

Tom Sharkey...
#2 contender
  • Ireland
  • Record: 27-1-1 (23)
  • Career stage: prime
  • Conditioning: top condition

Fight Stats
  • Result: Sharkey KO7
  • Knockdowns scored: Sharkey 1, Griffin 0
  • Punching accuracy: Sharkey 72.7%, Griffin 36.4%
  • Scoring: 58-56, 58-56, 58-56 all for Sharkey

Fight recap:

Griffin came into the fight overweight and definitely not in top shape. After a ho-hum first round, Sharkey pummeled Griffin for the next four rounds, rocking him several times. By the start of round 6, Griffin had a badly swollen left eye. In round 6, somehow Griffin managed a come back and stunned Sharkey with a solid left hook. By the end of the round Sharkey was hanging on, but Griffin’s left eye was almost swollen shut. Round 7 started off good for Griffin as he hit Sharkey with some solid body shots and had Sharkey trapped against the ropes. Then Sharkey threw a wicked left hook and dropped Griffin to the canvas. Griffin was out cold and stayed down for several minutes. Sharkey became the first heavyweight champion of the world.

Historical bout:
