England - Jr. Lightweights
There are 6 fighters for the Jr. Lightweight entry. The 2 top seeds, Michael Gomez and Carl Johanneson will recieve a bye.
Round 1: Kevin Lear vs Steve Conway - Lear came in the prohibitive favorite, but was outslugged by Conway despite a knockdown in the 1st round. Conway came back strong and was leading when a cut was opened in the 10th round on Lear's right eyelid that halted the bout for an upset TKO for Conway. Conway was up 6-3, 6-3, 4-4 in a good action bout to that point. Carl Greaves vs Dean Pithie - Greaves overcame knockdowns in the 2nd and 3rd rounds to come back strong, wearing Pithie down until scoring the KO in the 11th round. Semi-Finals: Michael Gomez vs Steve Conway - Conway was cut on the right eyelid in the 1st round, but was dominating the favored Gomez none the less when Gomez reopened the cut in the 4th round for the come from behind TKO. Conway was up 2 rounds to none with the 3rd having been taken away from him due to habitual fouls as Gomez couldn't figure Conway's style. Carl Johanneson vs Carl Greaves - Decent action fight that had the crowd on their feet throughtout saw Johanneson score the KO in the 7th while up 3-2, 2-2, 3-2 through 6. Final: Michael Gomez vs Carl Johanneson - Both men came into this fight in top shape and were chomping at the bit. They went at it early, really getting the crowd into it but Gomez was getting off with his punches first, forcing Johanneson to counter. Gomez built up a good lead while wearing Johanneson down, then in the 12th round he scored a knockdown, and sensing blood, his killer instinct kicked in and he battered the now hapless and exhausted Johanneson around the ring until the referee stepped in for the TKO. Gomez was up 8-3, 8-3, 6-3 through 11. With this win, Gomez earns the Jr. Lightweight berth! |

England - Featherweight Round 1
There are 49 Featherweights vying for the Team England berth. The lowest seeded 34 warriors will fight to set the field at 32.
Round 1: Billy Hardy vs Charley Cheese - Hardy smothered Cheese for the first 5 rounds, then in the 6th had him pinned on the ropes defenseless when the referee stepped in to end it for the TKO. Sammy McCarthy vs Jim Cheese - McCarthy has little trouble with Cheese as he scores a knockdown in the 4th that led to the TKO in the same round. Terry Spinks vs Redmond Condon - Spinks was cut on the inside of the right eyebrow in round 1, but seemed well on his way to winning, when in the 5th round Condon landed a wicked hook that burst it open. When consulted, the ring doctor ended the bout for the TKO. Kid Ned Broad vs Mark Dooley - Broad fought defensively throughout but still picked Dooley apart winning 9-4, 13-2, 11-3. Billy Calvert vs Bill Green - Calvert spent the first 7 rounds picking Calvert apart despite being cut in the 6th. Unfortunately the cut reopened the 7th and then again in the 8th when it was stopped for the TKO. Green won despite being behind 7-0, 7-0, 6-0. Benny Caplan vs Harry Greenfield - Neither man showed the power that was expected from them in this one, but Caplan had the faster hands, and the more accuracy in winning 9-6 on all 3 cards. Rendall Munroe vs Bob Laxton - This was a one sided match between 2 pure boxers, with Munroe being the better both offensively and defensively. The judges scored it 13-1, 12-3, 12-3 for Munroe. Jimmy Revie vs Harry Mead - If it weren't for bad luck, Revie would have no luck at all. He dominated this fight, scoring 3 knockdowns along the way to an 11-0 lead on all 3 cards when a bad gash on his forehead forced the fight to be stopped for the shocking TKO for Mead! George Seddons vs British Jack Roberts - Seddons battered Roberts throughout the fight, landing more than 4 punches for each 1 that Roberts landed, including 6 knockdowns before the referee finally ended things to protect the hapless Roberts late in the 13th round. Seddons was up 12-0, 11-1, 11-1 at the time. Tom Ireland vs Tom Scattergood - A dull fight that saw Ireland score the lone knockdown and outland Scattergood by a 2-1 margin. Most of the fight it seemed as if neither really wanted to be in the ring, but Ireland did enough to win 9-4, 10-5, 10-4. Ned Starkey vs Charlie Tilley - Starkey's modus operandi was stick and move throughout, and Tilly's was to futilely chase Starkey to no avail. In the end Starkey was far more polished, and it showed in the scorecards 12-2, 11-4, 11-4. Gary Thornhill vs Tom Wilson - Neither man was willing to mix it up for extended periods of time, Thornhill because Wilson didn't press him, and Wilson as he was protecting a cut from early on. Wilson's recalcitrance ended up costing him the decision 10-3, 8-5, 9-5. Sam Baxter vs Jack Fitzgibbon - Baxter landed more punches overall, made Fitzgibbon miss over 80% of his punches. Unfortunately for him he couldn't sustane it over 15 rounds, allowing the harder hitting Fitzgibbon to stay in it for the 8-7, 7-7, 7-7 majority draw. We'll have the rematch after the rest of the bouts from this round. Jacob Hyams vs Billy McLeod - After an even 1st round, McLeod lands a hook from nowhere in the 2nd to lay Hyams out for the count. Fred Johnson vs Frank Murphy - Neither man went down in this one. Neither man was overly impressive offensively. Murphy suffered a cut early on that reopened late in the 15th, but still won the final round to win the fight 8-7 on all 3 cards. Ted Marlow vs Alan Richardson - Richardson did an excellent job of cutting off the ring against Marlow, scoring 2 knockdowns, and nearly putting Marlow away several times enroute to a 13-2, 12-2, 11-4 decision. Jackie Turpin vs Carl Allen - A tale of 2 boxers, with Turpin looking good in all aspects of the game while making Allen look amateurish. The referee's scored the decision 10-3, 9-6, 9-6 but most felt it wasn't even that close. Rematch: Sam Baxter vs Jack Fitzgibbon - Baxter came out fast, taking 3 of the first 4 rounds only to have Fitzgibbon take over from rounds 5 through 12, including a knockdown. Fitzgibbon then held on as Baxter took the final 3 rounds to win the decision 8-6 on all 3 cards. |

England - Featherweight Round 2
Round 2:
Naseem Hamed vs Redmond Condon - Hamed came in rusty and it showed, as he was very sloppy with his punches throughout. Despite that, Condon was well over matched before he was knocked out in the 9th round. Paul Ingle vs Bill Green - Ingle had no problems with Green other than allowing him to survive to the 12th before the KO. Green had no defense to protect him throughout as he was behind 9-0, 10-0, 9-0 through 11. Nel Tarleton vs Harry Mead - Tarleton dominated against Mead, showing off his boxing skills as he won the fight 13-1, 10-3, 10-3. Ben Jordan vs Jack Fitzgibbon - Jordan appeared to be dominating the fight in the eyes of most that were in attendance when an accidental butt opened a cut on the bridge of Jordan's nose in the 10th. The fight continued until it reopened in the 12th and the referee handed Fitzgibbon the TKO win! Everyone in attendance was flummoxed by the decision as it should have been a technical decision, which would have been a majority draw since the judges had it 5-5, 5-5, 7-3 Jordan. Ronnie Clayton vs Billy McLeod - Clayton scored a pair of knockdowns, the 2nd one for the KO in the 9th round in this dominating performance. Pat Cowdell vs Frank Murphy - Cowdell lost 2 points due to low blows. but also scored a pair of knockdowns to win a narrow 7-5, 6-6, 7-6 majority decision. Johnny Cuthbert vs Alan Richardson - Cuthbert had little trouble with Richardson, cutting him up, leaving a pair of puffy eyes then scoring the KO in the 11th. Will Curley vs Jackie Turpin - No cuts, no knockdowns, no bruising and no action in this fight as Turpin somehow pulls out the upset 9-6, 6-9, 8-7 decision. Paul Hodkinson vs Tom Ireland - Both men had accuracy problems, but what Hodkinson did land were power shots, scoring 4 knockdowns, including the final one for the KO in round 11. Jim McDonnell vs Ned Starkey - McDonnell looked sharp, cutting Starkey in the 1st round, then reopening it in the 3rd and the 4th when it was stopped for the TKO. Nicky Cook vs Gary Thornhill - Cook was dominating in this one, right up to the point of scoring the KO in the 10th round. He was up 7-2, 6-3, 7-2 at the time. Dave Crowley vs Kid Ned Broad - Broad was suprising in this one, giving as good as he got. Unfortunately a cut under his left eye was to the bone, causing the fight to end in the 6th round. Percy Lewis vs Benny Caplan - Caplan couldn't find an answer to the accuracy and defense of Lewis as he drops the decision 10-4, 9-5, 10-3. Al Phillips vs Rendall Munroe - Munroe was leading on 2/3 cards in this rather dull bout when Phillips commited his 6th foul to draw the DQ loss in the 9th round. Michael Brodie vs George Seddons - Seddons appeared well on his way to an easy upset of Brodie, leading 6-1, 5-2, 4-3 when Brodie landed a furious hook that floored Seddons for the 10 count. At the time of the stop Seddons was landing over 40% of his punches and Brodie only 15%, but Brodie landed the one that counted! Billy Hardy vs Sammy McCarthy - Another come from behind KO as Hardy had built up a solid lead, only to have it taken from him when McCarthy landed the fight's sole knockdown for the 10 count in the 14th.

England - Featherweight Round 3
Round 3:
Naseem Hamed vs Jack Fitzgibbon - Hamed was terribly inaccurate, only landing 17% of his punches, but was by far the stronger of the 2, scoring the KO in the 4th. Paul Ingle vs Jackie Turpin - Ingle was the faster and the stronger, scoring 3 knockdowns, the final one in the 10th for the KO. Nel Tarleton vs Kid Ned Broad - Slick movement and accuracy were the order of the day for Tarleton, who make Broad live up to his nickname by making him look like a kid throughout. The judges scored it 11-4, 11-4, 10-4 for Tarleton. Ronnie Clayton vs Rendall Munroe - Close fight, but not much action other than each man scoring a knockdown enroute to an 8-6, 8-6, 8-6 decision for Clayton. Pat Cowdell vs Michael Brodie - Brodie boxed smoothly to build up a big lead, then held on for dear life as Cordwll scored a pair of knockdowns in the 13th round. Fortunately for Brodie, that was Cowdell's last stand as he punched himself out to send it to the judges. They scored it 8-6, 9-5, 9-6 for Brodie. Johnny Cuthbert vs Sammy McCarthy - Excellent action bout had McCarthy down once. Cuthbert was by far the more accurate, but McCarthy landed the most bombs. The crowd was well pleased, and cheered both men as it was announced that the judges scored the fight 8-7, 11-4, 9-5 for Cuthbert. Paul Hodkinson vs Nicky Cook - Hodkinson came out strong, dominating the first round, then scoring a pair of knockdowns in the 2nd enroute to a 2nd round TKO when the referee felt Cook couldn't handle any more damage. Jim McDonnell vs Percy Lewis - This was a snoozefest that culminated in both men being bloodied due to accidental butts, but neither man showing much gumption. McDonnell got the majority decision 9-6, 9-4, 7-7. |

England - Featherweight Quarter-Finals
Quarter-Finals:
Naseem Hamed vs Michael Brodie - Hamed may not be the prettiest fighter out there, but he seems to get it done. He again was woefully inaccurate but landed the big punch for the KO in the 4th round against the weak chinned Brodie. Paul Ingle vs Ronnie Clayton - Clayton used great defense and movement along with good judgement and accuracy to upset the #2 seeded Ingle by the score of 8-7, 9-6, 9-5. Nel Tarleton vs Johnny Cuthbert - Tarleton came out fast and cut Cuthbert in the 1st, reopened it in both the 2nd and 3rd, when it was stopped due to the severity of the injury. Tarleton moves into the Semi-Finals with the TKO. Paul Hodkinson vs Jim McDonnell - McDonnell out boxed and out slugged the slugger, scoring a pair of knockdowns while going down once himself. He showed excellent defense and terrific accuracy in garnering a well earned 10-5, 9-6, 10-5 decision. |

England - Featherweight Semi-Finals & Final
Semi-Finals:
Naseem Hamed vs Ronnie Clayton - Clayton cut Hamed in the 1st round, was knocked down in the 3rd, then fought hard to make a fight of it before Hamed landed a hard combination that turned out the lights for the night in the 11th. Hamed had a 6-4, 7-3, 7-3 lead through 10. Nel Tarleton vs Jim McDonnell - Both Tarleton and McDonnell fought defensive bouts which usually makes for a dull fight. This one was no exception though most felt Tarleton did enough to pull out the win. (I had it 8-7 Tarleton) The judges felt otherwise scoring it 9-6, 7-8, 9-6 for McDonnell. Final: Naseem Hamed vs Jim McDonnell - Hamed swarmed McDonnell throughout the fight, nearly closing his left eye, and causing swelling on the right as well. To McDonnells credit he lasted the full 15 rounds, but lost the fight 14-1, 13-2, 13-1. Hamed had his most accurate fight of the tourney, landing 431 of 1096 punches (39.3%) and showed terrific defense, allowing only 180 of 1157 punches (15.6%). Hamed will represent England in the World Tourney! |

England - Jr. Featherweights Semi Final & Final
Only 3 in this weight class, so the #1 seed, Derry Matthews will fight the winner of the Semi-Final bout.
Semi-Final: Esham Pickering vs Richie Wenton - Wenton was cut, Wenton was knocked down, Wenton was out boxed, Wenton was out foxed, so how in the world did Wenton get the decision over Pickering by the score of 8-6, 8-7, 9-6? The crowd was throwing debris into the arena after this stinker of a decision, with the judges needing to be escorted out for their safety! Final: Derry Matthews vs Richie Wenton - Matthews scored a knockdown in the 1st round, then took the next 2 before the vast underdog Wenton suprised everyone by scoring a KO in the 4th round! The improbable Wenton will represent England as a Jr. Welterweight! |

England - Bantamweights - Fight In
We have 37 entrants for the Bantamweight entrant. There will be 5 fights to set the field at 32.
Fight-In: W C Bond vs Yorkshire Harry Clarke - Bond never gets untracked, losing each of the first 2 rounds before being put to sleep with a wicked hook early in the 3rd for the KO. Clarke moves on. Mike Coburn vs Chris Emanuele - Coburn outworked Emanuel, tossing 3 times as many punches, but was woefully inaccurate landing only 13% while Emanuele landed an efficient 54% to win the 8-6, 9-6, 9-4 decision. Albert Gould vs Sean Green - Gould wins a narrow split decision by out boxing Green early on then surviving a torrid 13th round. The judges scored it 8-7, 6-8, 9-5 for Gould. I had it 9-5 as well. Owen Hannon vs Bill Mortimer - Mortimer scores a knockdown in the 9th then the KO in the 10th of his dominating win over Hannon. Sid Paillios vs Patsy Sheehan - Sheehan scored a knockdown with a nasty uppercut in the 1st round, but couldn't finish Paillios. Paillios made him pay for his not being able to close things when he scored the KO in the 6th of a very close fight. |

England - Bantamweights - Round 1
Round 1:
Owen Moran vs Yorkshire Harry Clarke - Moran's first punch and last punch of the fight were knockdowns as he scores the KO at 2:23 in the 1st round! Dick Corbett vs Chris Emanuele - Corbett boxed effortlessly for 15 rounds to earn the decision 9-3, 10-2, 11-2. Johnny King vs Albert Gould - King dominated a perfect first round with the KO win at 2:22. He landed punches from all types and angles as he landed 42 straight punches! Billy Plimmer vs Bill Mortimer - Mortimer shocked the world scoring a huge knockdown in the 1st round that saw Plimmer barely make his feet at 9! Plimmer recovered nicely to dominate the rest of the fight, scoring 3 knockdowns in the 5th, the final one for 10 in an amazing comeback! Johnny Clark vs Ernie Stanton - Clark scores 3 knockdowns against the valiant Stanton to win the 10-5, 12-3, 10-5 decision. Alan Rudkin vs Sid Paillios - Rudkin scored a knockdown early in round 1 then piled up the points. Towards the end of the round it looked as if Paillios was fighting back well, scoring when suddenly the referee stopped the bout with 9 seconds left in the round for the TKO! Teddy Baldock vs San Swanburg - Baldock scored a KO combo in the 7th to end a fight that would have been tough to score, as the judges had it 3-3, 3-3, 5-1 for Baldock through the first 6 rounds. Joe Bowker vs Ginger Wright - Bowker was content to work the outside of the ring moving fluidly throughout this oddly scored bout (I had it 12-1 Bowker). The judges scored it 9-4, 7-6, 13-0 for Bowker. John Armour vs Bill Hook - A decidedly pedestrian effort by 2 boxers led to an 8-6, 8-5, 8-6 decision for Armour. Danny O'Sullivan vs George Corfield - Both men threw bombs throughout this hotly contested bout with the best action in the 4th where O'Sullivan went down for an 8 count early, then picked himself up, took over the round scoring a knockdown of his own for 9 in winning a close round! Corfield scored a flash knockdown in the 7th, but O'Sullivan was the stronger winning 12-1, 11-2, 7-6. (I had it 12-2 for O'Sullivan.) Pedlar Palmer vs Jack Hare - Palmer used every tactic in the book, including assorted fouls to build up a split decision lead, only to throw it away in the 14th with his 5th foul, a blatant low blow to hand Hare the victory by DQ. Stan Rowan vs Francis Ampofo - Rowan built up a 7-2 lead despite losing 2 points on fouls only to lose it on a DQ with his 6th foul (3rd hitting and holding) in the 13th to send Ampofo on. Digger Stanley vs George Holden - Stanley built up a lead, but his corner couldn't staunch the bleeding that started in the first round of the fight, and things were ended early in the 5th round for the TKO on cuts by the upset minded Holden. Nunc Wallace vs Sammy Reynolds - Wallace ducked a bullet in surviving a pair of knockdowns in this close battle to survive with a 7-6, 7-7, 6-7 draw. Rematch at the end of the round. Noel Wilders vs Harry Ware - Wilders used amazing accuracy and suprisingly good defense to win handily 14-1, 14-1, 9-6. George Bowes vs Chappie Moran - Chappie became the 2nd Moran to move forward in this tournament as he dominated Bowes for 15 rounds in an easy 11-4, 11-4, 11-4 decision. Rematch: Nunc Wallace vs Sammy Reynolds - Wallace survived 2 knockdowns in this brutal match to storm back and batter Reynolds in the 13th until the referee ended things. The judges had this bout 8-4 Wallace, 6-6, 6-6. |

England - Bantamweights Round 2
Round 2:
Owen Moran vs Jack Hare - Another dominating performance by Moran as he scores a knockdown in the 1st, then continues on winning each round handily until the 12th when after 4 knockdowns, the 5th is for the KO! Dick Corbett vs Francis Ampofo - Atypical boxer vs boxer match up as Corbett wins a snooze fest 9-5, 9-5, 7-4 to move on. Johnny King vs George Holden - King dominated, though Holden put forth a valiant effort, but King cut him up so badly the fight was stopped early in the 11th for the TKO. King was up 8-1, 10-0, 7-3 at the time of the stop. Billy Plimmer vs Chappie Moran - Plimmer needed the last 2 rounds to hold off a game Moran in this boxing match. The 15th round was by far the best round of the fight as both men went back and forth with the crowd cheering wildly before Plimmer caught Moran with some hard shots towards the end to seal the win 9-6, 9-6, 9-5. Johnny Clark vs John Armour - These 2 stood toe to toe throughout with the 11th round being a round of the year candidate! (18-21) Clark finally dropped Armour in the 13th, only to have Armour return the favor in the 14th! The 15th was anti-clamatic as both men were punched out, but Armour seemed to have won it. Either way, I had Clark winning 8-7 in an entertaining sluggers matchup. The judges scored it 8-7, 7-8, 9-5 for the winner Johnny Clark! Alan Rudkin vs Danny O'Sullivan - O'Sullivan suffered a bad gash early from an accidental head butt as this fight was shaping up to be a brawl. In the 6th Rudkin opened the cut so badly that the fight was stopped, sending it to the cards. The judges scored it 4-1, 1-4, 4-1 for the favored Rudkin, but O'Sullivan had nothing to be ashamed of! Teddy Baldock vs Nunc Wallace - Wallace survived knockdowns in the 2nd and 3rd round, then stormed back to make this an entertaining bout. I had it 7-7 even, and the judges scored it 7-6 Baldock, 7-7, and 8-6 Wallace for a draw to force a rematch at the end of the round. This was Wallace's 2nd draw in 3 fights so far in this tourney. Joe Bowker vs Noel Wilders - This was an action packed back and forth bout that saw Bowker down in the 9th, BOTH men down in the 10th! and Wilders down in the 12th! In the end Wilders proved to be the better fighter over 15 rounds as he wins 10-3, 9-5, 8-6. Rematch: Teddy Baldock vs Nunc Wallace - Baldock scored a pair of knockdowns and dominated, with the final knockdown in an impressive 10th round that ended in a TKO! |

England - Bantamweights - Quarter-Finals
Quarter-Finals:
Owen Moran vs Noel Wilders - Moran used the ring well, sticking and moving throughout. His rapier jab and stinging counters opened a cut that ended things in the 8th round for the TKO on cuts. Dick Corbett vs Teddy Baldock - Baldock took it to the favored Corbett, then moved away to keep him off balance throughout. Corbett was unable to figure out Baldock's odd style as he dropped the split decision 9-6, 6-9, 6-9. Baldock moves to the semi's. Johnny King vs Johnny Clark - King scored a knockdown early then kept control until Clark was cut due to an accidental butt. When the cut reopened in the 9th, the fight was sent to the judges who scored it 5-3, 3-5, 5-3 for King. Billy Plimmer vs Alan Rudkin - Good close bout that had Rudkin looking to pull ahead when he opened up a cut over Plimmer's left eye. When it reopened in the 12th, the fight was ended for the TKO to send the suprising Rudkin to the Semi-Finals. The judges had it 5-5, 6-4, 6-4 for Rudkin through 11. |

England - Bantamweights - Semi-Finals & Final
Semi-Finals:
Owen Moran vs Teddy Baldock - Baldock fought hard, but had no answer for the speed and superior boxing skills of Moran. Moran finally scored the telling blows, a series of flurries that put Baldock down for the count in the 8th round. Johnny King vs Alan Rudkin - King opened a cut on the right eyebrow of Rudkin that subsequently reopened in the 2nd and 3rd to end things for a 3 TKO on cuts to send King into the final. Final: Owen Moran vs Johnny King - Moran came in the heavy favorite, and went out on a stretcher as King scored a pair of knockdowns in the 14th round, the final one for the count of 10. Moran was out for 15 minutes as he suffered a concussion and was sent to the hospital. King moves to the World Tourney. |

England - Jr. Bantamweights
We have a pair of pugilists for the Jr. Bantamweight Berth.
Peter Culshaw vs Ian Napa - Napa kept things close through the first 9 rounds despite an early knockdown, but Culshaw took over the next 3 rounds then ended it in the 13th for the TKO on a nasty cut on the bridge of Napa's nose. Culshaw was up 8-4, 8-4, 7-5 through 12. Culshaw will move to the World Tourney. |

England - Flyweights - Round 1
With 31 combatants, the top seeded Terry Allen will recieve the bye.
Round 1: Teddy Gardner vs Harry Ashley - Gardner boxed Ashley's ears off, taking the first 9 rounds on all 3 cards before the fight halting in the 10th on cuts. Gardner gets the TKO as he moves on. Peter Kane vs Harry Brodigan - Kane followed a dominating first round with a wicked combination early in the 2nd that laid Brodigan out like a Thanksgiving Turkey. KO in 2 for Kane. Charlie Magri vs George Dempsey - Magri just swarmed Dempsey, landing an average of 43.3 punches to Dempsey's 4.4 per round. Midway through the 3rd, Dempsey was sent reeling by a series of hard hooks that forced the referee to end it. 3 TKO. Eric Marsden vs Alf Gower - Marsden kept the fight going at a blistering pace against an over matche yet game Gower. He finally hurt Gower badly in the 5th, landing bomb after bomb before a right cross ended the night as Gower crashed to the canvas with authority. Score it a 5 KO for Marsden. Jason Booth vs Bill Ray - They could have fought this in Booth's namesake as Ray unwisely went toe to toe with Booth. Early in the 7th Ray was the victim of a picture perfect hook that dropped him to the canvas. He rose, but wasn't able to withstand the storm as The referee finally ended it with 20 seconds left in the round. 7 TKO for Booth. Tiny Bostock vs Liverpool Willie Smith - Bostock scored a pair of knockdowns in the 4th while easily taking the first 6 rounds. Smith showed signs of coming back in the 7th, but in the 8th Bostock was in charge again as he pounded Smith, then opened a gushing gash over the left eyebrow of his opponent for the 8 TKO on cuts. Dale Robinson vs Fred Sullivan - Robinson took the first 2 rounds, the 2nd in dominating fashion. In the 3rd he started out fast, and was dominating but not hurting his man seriously when the referee inexplicitly stepped in to "protect" Sullivan for the TKO. Mickey McGuire vs Archie Wright - McGuire had little trouble with Wright in this rather dull exhibition of boxing winning 10-4, 10-4, 8-4 for the decision. Sid Smith vs Bob Howard - Smith used considerable ring savvy and hand speed to keep Howard off balance throughout his 12-3, 13-2, 11-3 decision. Joe Symonds vs Frank Morecombe - Symonds pounded Morecombe for 11 rounds, scoring a knockdown in the 9th. In the fatal 11th, Morecombes left eye was swollen the size of a large tomato when the ring doctor ordered the fight stopped for the TKO. Symonds domination was clear on the cards as he lead 9-1, 9-1, 10-0 through 10. Tut Whalley vs English Jack Walker - Whalley survived a knockdown in the 4th round in this spirited bout that went the decision. In the end Whalley had not only fought his way into the fight but ended up taking the decision 9-4, 7-6, 7-4. Nat Williams vs Charlie Exall - Williams clearly was the better fighter, and in the eyes of most observers won a fairly impressive decision despite some great rounds out of Exall. (I had it 9-4 Williams) When it went to the judges however, they scored the fight 9-4, 6-6, 5-7 for the draw. The crowd vociferously boo'd the judges scoring! The rematch will be at the end of the round. Walter Croot vs Jim Stroud - Stroud wore Croot down, then scored the lone knockdown, a 9 count in the 9th enroute to a suprising 9-6, 8-6, 9-6 decision. Joe Curran vs Jim Kenrick - One of the slowest tempo'd fights brought one of the toughest to score, and it showed as the judges scored it 8-7, 7-8, 9-6 for Curran. Young Joseph's Nipper vs Dickie O'Sullivan - An accidental butt was the story of the day as O'Sullivan suffered a nasty gash on his forehead that continued to reopen. The fight ended in the 5th to send it to the score cards. The judges had it 4-0, 2-2, 3-1 for winner by Majority Decision Dickie O'Sullivan. |

England - Flyweights - Round 2
Round 2:
Terry Allen vs Jim Stroud - Allen boxed fluidly throughout, using a strong jab and great movement to keep Stroud off balance in his 12-3, 13-2, 11-3 decision. Teddy Gardner vs Joe Curran - Gardner blew open a slow but close fight with a deceptively fast and strong left hook that put Curran down for the count in the 4th. Peter Kane vs Dickie O'Sullivan - Kane scored a knockdown in the 3rd, then the KO in the 4th against the tough O'Sullivan. Charlie Magri vs Mickey McGuire - McGuire withstood a near devastating knockdown in the 2nd round, then outslugged the heavily favored Magri the rest of the way to earn the decision 8-6, 7-7, 10-5. Eric Marsden vs Sid Smith - Marsden built up a solid lead, then walked into a hard right hook that dropped him in the 10th, then got up, and went down to a stiff combination for the 2nd knockdown. He then got up, held on for about 30 seconds then mounted a comback for a round of the year candiate! He scored a knockdown of his own in the 11th, then went on to win the decision 9-6, 11-4, 9-5. Jason Booth vs Joe Symonds - Symonds simply swarmed the favored Booth, finally scoring a knockdown in the 11th then keeping a blistering pace through the round landing at will until the referee ended the bout for the 11 TKO. Tiny Bostock vs Tut Whalley - Bostock used amazing accuracy and impressive defense to hold off the game Whalley 9-6, 8-7, 10-5. He landed 55% to 20% for Whalley in his win. Dale Robinson vs Nat Williams - This was an uninspired performance by both fighters as Robinson takes the 7-7, 9-6, 10-5 decision. |

England - Flyweights - Quarter-Finals
Quarter-Finals:
Terry Allen vs Mickey McGuire - Top seeded Allen fights the perfect fight through 8, building up a solid lead before walking into a right hook that shocked everyone in the arena for the KO in 8! McGuire moves on! Teddy Gardner vs Joe Symonds - Excellent back and forth bout saw the underdog Symonds gradually pull ahead to win the decision 7-7, 9-4, 9-5. Peter Kane vs Tiny Bostock - This was Kane stalking, Bostock circling, Kane landing bombs, Bostock peppering Kane with lighter shots from all angles. Kane was starting to prove that he was the stronger warrior, despite an early cut inside of his mouth. Unfortunately in the 14th the amount of blood welling out of the mouth of Kane was too much for the bout to continue as Bostock earns the 14th round TKO on cuts. Eric Marsden vs Dale Robinson - With a few exeptional rounds, this was a rather dull fight with Marsden chasing Robinson around the ring in haphazard fashion, but Robinson not having the skills to keep out of the way. In the end it was a decision, 9-6, 9-6, 9-6 for Marsden. |

England - Flyweights - Semi-Finals & Final
The top 4 seeds have been eliminated, leaving only Eric Marsden among the top 5 seeds left.
Semi-Finals: Eric Marsden vs Micky McGuire - McGuire suffered a cut over his left eye due to an accidental butt in the 1st round that reopened in the 3rd and 4th rounds. The cut was so badly torn open in the 4th that the bout was stopped for a Technical Draw. There will be a rematch after the Bostock-Symonds match. Tiny Bostock vs Joe Symonds - Symonds got off to a fast start, to build an early lead. Bostock came back strong, scoring a huge knockdown in the 10th to pull within a couple of rounds, only to have Symonds not only somehow survive, but come on strong the final 5 rounds! The judges scored the bout 9-6, 9-6, 10-5 for Symonds. Rematch: Eric Marsden vs Mickey McGuire - Marsden came in soft, and it showed as he wasn't able to keep much pressure on McGuire. Unfortunately for McGuire, he just didn't have the tools to do much himself, handing Marsden the 10-5, 7-7, 9-5 Majority Decision. Final: Eric Marsden vs Joe Symonds - Marsden was in control the first 3 rounds, then Symonds stormed back to make it interesting in the 4th and 5th. The 6th was a great action round that both men could make a claim for. In the 7th Marsden took over again, and then in the 8th he scored the KO blow at 2:32 in the round to move into the World Tournament. |
