Infinity Variant

Infinity Variant
(Before I posted this I asked Infinity if he would object to me borrowing his basic concept and posting results, and I have his permission.)
My 1911-2000 uni hit a wall. I was getting ready to move some fighters up in weight class (Harry Greb, Tommy Gibbons and others) but by the time they had dominated their divisions they were in post-prime. I realized I had set my aging option to have post-time after 55 fights at the max. Considering Greb had a record of 260-21-7 he was retiring way too soon. Tommy Gibbons had 102 fights in his career. Having invested the last four-five months in the uni I took step back and read the forms and did a little research. Some of this might be obvious.
In the 1900’s over one hundred career bouts is not unusual. As the decades go by the career bouts begin to drop.
1920’s – average around 80
1930’s – average around 70
1960’s – around 60
So as the universe advances aging need to change. One uni I read the aging was change manually depending on the fighter.

Well, in my wandering the forum, I came across the All Time Greatest Tourney – Infinity Style. I thought that was a great idea. I set up a similar tourney, but did a few things different. My boxing interests are in the Welterweights and heavier, can’t name a Fly to save my life
The variant part is I will have US state champions first. I did the Export CSV file and then determined each fighter’s home state. After state champions are determined the regional champions, Eastern, Central, Mountain and Pacific will be determined. Then the USBA champions will be crowned.
Some states have very few fighters, and like Infinity if the fighter is the only one in the weight division they get an automatic pass into the regional. Some states have a larger number of fighters and each will have 5 fights determined at random. (I use Research Randomizer: Free Random Sampling and Random Assignment to get random numbers to set up the bouts) For example Duke Sabedong is the only heavy in Hawaii and gets the automatic bid to the Pacific championship.
When I am ready for the regional bouts I will figure out the method.
Then they will fight the Canadian and Mexican champs for the North American Continental belts.
Meanwhile all the remaining countries will determine their champions in a similar way. Weight classes will be WW, MW, LHW, CW and HW. Junior or Super divisions will be joined with the proper class.

Another interesting concept, that of state champions! I was considering and may still eventually have state-based teams. I used to have teams that played tennis, sort of, in my earlier board days.

This should be a long-running and interesting thread! As is Infinity's, which could run to...infinity!

It's been said that immitation is the sincerest form of flattery, and I truly am flattered.... I'm sure this will be quite entertaining for all to read, and I'll be looking forward to the progressions as well!

Connecticut Results

Looking over this state, they might have one of the more competitive LHW divisions. Gene Tunney (14), Jack DeLaney (10) and Al Gainer (9). Granted Tunney is the top contender for the CT belt, but an upset is possible.

Upon Further Review

This could become a monster...I am going to scale back the USBA bouts to a max of three fights. In the bigger states, the 3-0 fighters will go into a single elimation tournament.

Feeling a bit over matched with the scope of things?....That's why I ended up doing all of my tourneys to date as single elimination. No muss no fuss less work...lol

Florida LHW Round 1

The best fight so far was in Florida, Roy Jones Jr. (12 championships from MW to HW) v. Antonio Taver (8 LHW titles). The fight went the distance and resulted in a draw. Both fighter having 6 points. My observation was Jones was the winner, as he knocked down Taver twice. I think Jones was robbed.

Florida MW / WW Round 1

The best of this group was the fight between Eddie McGrooty (9) and Holman Williams (11). McGoorty was the Australian World MW Champ in 1914 and Williams was the World Colored MW champion in the early 1940's.
Williams, the favorite never got it going and was knocked down in the 8th. The two fought to a split decision favoring McGrooty. (As I review McGrooty's history, it seems I have relocated him from Wisconsin to Florida.
