Friday Night Fights

LHW: Yvon Durelle 13-0-2 (4) UD 8 Meynard Gonzales 7-15-3

FLY: Charles Bohbot 13-1-2 (2) MD 8 Dylan Jones 12-3-1 (3)

FW: Percy Bassett 11-0 (5) KO 1 Felino Sarmiento 10-9-2 (2)
Impressive perfomance from Bassett, who is now #9 among the featherweights.

MW: Joey Giardello 8-0 UD 8 Pierre Langlois 7-3-1
The hyped Giardello takes another using his great defense and fast hands, for a wide decision.

WW: Luther Rawlings 15-0 (3) KO 8 Bob Calhoun 11-8-2 (7)
Rawlings dominates and cruises until he finally gets in a big punch that ends the fight. Rawlings stays at #10.

Main Event

FW: Sandy Saddler 19-0 (17) KO 5 Aaron Joshua 12-4 (1)
Saddler looks very impressive as he pounded the tough Joshua for five rounds until he just coulnd't handle anymore. Saddler stays #2 in the featherweight division.

Saturday, April 30st
Memorial Auditorium, Buffalo, NY, USA

HW: Iglas Coblah 20-4 (14) KO 4 Todd Mason 10-11 (4)
Three close, intense rounds was followed by one massive uppercut that ended the fight effectively. The ghanese Coblah moves up to #7 in the heavyweight division.

MW: Jake LaMotta 17-3-2 (8) UD 8 Antonio Torres 7-7-4 (2)
Expectations weren't too big seeing as LaMotta had already suffered three losses, but at the same time, the folks who had seen him in his loss against Randy Turpin knew this guy was better than his record. And he took a step towards proving that as he shutout Torres in impressive and entertaining fashion to move up to #28 in the middleweight division.

WW: Billy Graham 22-2 (4) UD 8 Jim Collins 8-7-4 (3)
Graham didn't impress but did what he needed and recovered from his shocking loss to Jimmy Doyle in modest fashion by outpointing Collins for a clear decision. Graham is now #8 in the welterweights.

FW: Tommy Collins 18-0 (16) KO 1 Bernie Grant 9-6
One of only two guys who looks like a threat to Willie Pep in the featherweights (the other guy being Sandy Saddler), proved his immense punching power once again by finishing Grant in the 1st round. Collins is still #3.

LHW: Ezzard Charles 16-0 (12) KO 5 Curt Blackburn 7-6-5 (2)
Charles looked fantastic as Blackburn hardly got a punch in against the fast, hard-hitting, agressive, clever #3 in the Light-Heavyweight division. Charles scored knockdowns in round 3 and 5.

Main Event

HW: Phil Muscato 19-0-2 (9) draw Colin Chaney 10-6-4 (3)
Although he probably deserved the win, Muscato was very unimpressive as he was matched by the equally unimpressive Colin Chaney. It didn't have any impact on Muscatos ranking though as he remains on top.

London Arena, London, England

HW: Hein Ten-Hoff 12-1-2 (8) KO 2 Jesus Jimenez 10-10-1 (4)
German Ten-Hoff, who already holds wins over heavyweight such as Joe Baksi, Eduard Nieberg, Berne Reynolds and Frank Poreda, had no trouble at all finishing Jimenez. Ten-Hoff is still #5 in the somewhat weak heavyweight division.

FW: Ronnie Clayton 19-2 (8) TKO 5 Andrew Coleman 7-6
Clayton handled Coleman with ease and scored four knockdowns before the fight was stopped in the 5th. Clayton remains at #8 among the featherweights.

HW: Jack Gardner 7-0 (4) TKO 7 Freddie Schott 12-1 (5)
An exciting battle of undefeated heavyweights saw a surprising winner in young brit Jack Gardner. Schott, who was ranked #4 coming in was better in the 1st, but then Gardner hammered him for the next 6 rounds and even scored a knockdown in the 5th, before the referee stepped in the end what became a mismatch in the 7th. Very impressive display from Gardner who looks like a real player in the division.

Main Event

FLY: Terry Allen 17-1 (2) UD 8 Joe Cooper 8-9-4 (1)
Allen handled Cooper with ease and outboxed him for a wide decision. Allen is still #2 in the flyweight division.

Saturday, May 14th
Fantasy Springs Casino, Indio, CA, USA

LHW: Bert Lytell 22-1 (2) UD 8 Rizaldo Yulo 9-9-3 (5)
The highly skilled, although weak punching and questionably chinned, light-heavyweight Bert Lytell makes it to #15 by widely outpointing Yulo, although not managing to score the 1st knockdown of his career.

MW: Paddy Young 18-1 (9) TKO 4 Man-su P'yong 8-7-2
Young managed to cut P'yong in the 1st round with a nice uppercut and then cruised through the next couple of rounds before the cut became too bad for the fight to go on. Young makes it to #5 in the middleweight divison.

LHW: Joey Maxim 13-1-1 (3) TKO 7 Tsurayaki Tanaka 7-8 (1)
Another fight ended due to a bad cut, once again after Maxim had dominated seven rounds. Maxim moves to #9.

HW: Bob Satterfield 18-3 (17) TKO 1 Edel Brem 11-10-1 (6)
Satterfield did what he does best, knocked his foe out quickly. The popular Satterfield moves to #10.

WW: Tommy Bell 24-0 (15) TKO 6 Jeong Kyo 5-5-5 (1)
Bell hammered Kyo in rare fashion, as the korean hardly got a punch in, while Bell landed an average of 40 punches per round. Bell scored knockdowns in rounds 4, 5 and 6 before the fight was stopped. Bell overtakes Frankie Fernandez for the #2 spot in the welterweight division.

Main Event (Live)

LW: Wesley Mouzon 20-1-1 (7) vs Danny Webb 15-5-2 (6)

The lightweight #1 Wesley Mouzon who holds an impressive knockout win against Ike Williams (15-2, 9 KOs, ranked #8), had his only loss come in a somewhat controversial split decision against Joe Brown (20-1, 12 KOs, ranked #11). Mouzon is facing Danny Webb who made alot of noise by knocking out the undefeated Henry Davis (now 21-1, 3 KOs, ranked #9).

Mouzon is an incredibly fast, busy and accurate boxer who is making a big impact in the lightweight division. He showed a weakness though as he was knocked down in the fight against Wallace smith (6-1-1, 1 KO).

Round 1

Mouzon dominates and lands everytime Webb tries to get inside. Mouzon hurts Webb at the end of the round with a big right hook. 10-9 Wesley Mouzon

Round 2

A very active round for both fighters, with a clear advantage for Mouzon who lands his jab and his body punches at will. Webb gets in one nice punch in the middle of the round that made Mouzon back up for a little while. 20-18 Wesley Mouzon

Round 3

Mouzon hurt Webb early and then missed with a couple of punches, and this seemed to give Webb some energy as he got off a couple of double jabs and a nice uppercut. Mouzon probably just edged the round as he scored some good looking straight lefts and rights. 30-27 Wesley Mouzon

Round 4

Fantastic round for Mouzon who danced circles around Webb and landed whenever he moved in. He simply seems to quick for Webb. 40-36 Wesley Mouzon

Round 5

What seemed like another simple round for Mouzon suddenly took a dramatic turn that really showed what could be a weakness of Mouzon as Webb landed a hard cross that sent Wesley to the floor. Quickly up though, he didn't seem to recover fully and was caught a couple of times more during the round. 49-46 Wesley Mouzon

Round 6

Mouzon seems to focused on ending the fight as he lands big a couple of times, but in general Webb is the agressor and easily scores more, without ever landing anything of note. 58-56 Wesley Mouzon

Round 7

A really dull round, that saw Mouzon land a couple of jabs and crosses that probably was enough for him to win the round. 68-65 Wesley Mouzon.

Round 8

After 2 even minutes where both fighters let their hans go, Mouzons speed started to be the difference as a combination to the body followed by a strong uppercut knocked Webb down, who was then saved by the bell. 78-73 Wesley Mouzon

The official scores read: 77-73, 78-73 and 77-73 all for Wesley Mouzon who remains on top of the lightweight division and improves to 22-1-1 (7). Webb drops to 15-6-2 (6) but looks like a tough test for anyone in the lightweight division.

Guadalajara Arena Coliseo, Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico

BW: Dan Long 10-9-1 (2) MD 8 Jorge Santos 10-3-2

WW: Juan Padilla 10-0 UD 8 Jorge Vargas 8-8-4 (1)
Padilla scored the first knockdown of his ten-fight career in an easy decision victory. The mexican joins the welterweight ranks at #17.

HW: Mike Patterson 9-6-1 UD 8 Abel Cestac 14-3 (9)
After being well behing going into the 6th, Mike Patterson shocked by knocking down Cestac and then winning both the 7th and 8th to win in a big upset.

FW: Miguel Acevedo 16-1 (6) TKO 3 Michael Beach 10-15-1 (1)
An easy win against a poor opponent for the cuban who remains #5 in the featherweight division.

BW: Manuel Armenteros 13-0 (8) KO 3 Cesar Ramos 11-9-2 (1)
Armenteros moves to the #3 spot after an easy victory.

Main Event (live)

WW: Kid Gavilan 14-0-1 (1) vs Jose Medina 9-10-2 (3), 8 rounds

The highly skilled cuban welterweight should have no trouble defeating the unknown tomato can Jose Medina. Should be exciting to watch Gavilan in action though. Gavilan is currently ranked #7 in the extremely strong welterweight division.

Round 1

Gavilan scores a couple of nice uppercuts to win the 1st. 10-9 Kid Gavilan

Round 2

Gavilan gets a few warnings from the referee for low blows and holding and hitting, but has no trouble winning the round with his excellent counterpunching. This looks like a clear mismatch. 20-18 Kid Gavilan

Round 3

Medina shows he is not gonna go without a fight, as he fights back in this round. Gavilans speed and skill are still too much though. 30-27 Kid Gavilan

Round 4

Gavilan is too careful and too focused on his defence and Medina wins the round by being the agressor. 39-37 Kid Gavilan.

Round 5

Gavilan gets back to action with his best round so far. 58 punches landed to 0 for Medina. 49-46 Kid Gavilan

Round 6

Gavilan is not doing what he should here. Alot of tauning and moving, but only punch volume necessary to win rounds. Boring. 59-55 Kid Gavilan

Round 7

Copy of round 6. 69-64 Kid Gavilan

Round 8

Gavilan covers up and throws the round, but still does enough to manage an even round. 79-74 Kid Gavilan

Official scorecards read: 80-74 on all cards for Kid Gavilan

There is no doubt that Kid Gavilan has the skill and mind to become one of the very best, but it is unclear why he does not feel more of an urge to entertain the crowd.

The cuban moves to 15-0-1 (1) and is still ranked #7.

Friday Night Fights

WW: Bobby Dykes 14-0-3 (3) TKO 7 Juan Salazar 9-10-2 (3)
Dykes looked very good and scored knockdowns in rounds 6 and 7 before the referee stepped in. Dykes moves to #10.

MW: Rocky Castellani 17-1-2 (4) UD 8 Julio Medina 9-10-2 (2)
Castellani scored a knockdown in the 3rd and in general was the better fighter, but was not impressive. Castellani remains #8 in the middleweights.

HW: Embrell Davidson 8-0 (5) SD 8 Jason Tobitt 12-14 (10)
Unimpressive perfomance from Davidson as two knockdowns was the only thing standing between him and a loss.

LHW: Bob Foxworth 14-0 (12) KO 1 George Crawford 10-8 (3)
No trouble for Foxworth who finishes the fight in 2 minutes and 51 seconds. The hard-hitting light-heavyweight remains ranked #7.

MW: Walter Cartier 15-1-1 (6) Draw Jimmy Flood 8-1-1 (3)
A close back and forward fight ends with a fair draw, although if one should have gotten the win it would have been Cartier, who remains at #12, while Flood joins the middleweight ranks at #39.

Main Event

LHW: Oakland Billy Smith 17-0 (6) TKO 5 Victor Brown 12-8-2 (3)
After three tough rounds for Smith, he took control in the 4th and hammered Brown till the referee ended it in the 5th. "Boardwalk" remains #3.

Philadelphia Convention Hall, Philadelphia, PA, USA

LW: Joe Brown 21-1 (13) TKO 3 Lee Jefferson 7-14-2 (1)
Brown dominated three rounds before the ref ended the fight. Brown advances to #3.

LW: Tommy Campbell 18-1 (11) TKO 2 Guillermo Gimenez 11-7
Campbell hammered Gimenez until the referee decided he had seen enough. Campbell remains #4.

LHW: Harold Johnson 17-2 (4) KO 7 Jim Schultz 8-7-5 (1)
Johnson won every round before knocking Schultz out cold in the 7th. Johnson is still #5 in the light-heavyweight division.

LW: Maxie Docusen 19-0 (2) UD 8 Marcos Ramos 11-8 (1)
Docusen had no problem scoring a wide decision as he overtakes Art Aragon for the #2 spot in the lightweights.

Co-Feature and Main Event (live)

HW: Rocky Marciano 10-0 (9) vs Andy Walker 6-5 (3), 8 rounds

The hard-hitting and free-swinging young heavyweight prospect Rocky Marciano takes on no-name Andy Walker, in what is expected to be a very short lived fight.

Round 1

Marciano didn't take long to land his first big shot, a hard right to the body. Walker weather the initial storm though. Later in the round, Marciano got another big right hook in, this time up top. He follows that up with a short right hand that send Walker down. When Walker got up, Marciano followed with a couple of big shots to end the round. 10-8 Rocky Marciano

Round 2

Walker opens the round by landing his first shot of the fight, a quick jab. Both fighters landed a little here and there, until Marciano got in a big uppercut to finish the round in style. 20-17 Rocky Marciano

Round 3

Walker keeps giving a good account of himself by working well the body. Marcianos power is not for fun though, and a couple of big shots send him to the floor for the second time. Walker got up, wobbly though, but managed to survive the round. 30-25 Rocky Marciano.

Round 4

As it seemed obvious that Walker was tiring out, Marciano cleverly worked the body to make Walker go to the canvas again. Walker made it up again, though in a display of great courage. Marciano just kept on landing, and a big right hand got him down for the fourth time, this time for the full ten count.

Rocky Marciano KO 4 Andy Walker

"The Brockton Blockbuster" proved his incredible power once again, and improves to 11-0 with 10 KOs and an incredible 31 knockdowns in those fights. He is now ranked #5 in the heavyweight division.

LHW: Tommy Yarosz 23-1 (5) vs Lance Akhurst 12-10-3 (6), 10 rounds

The light-heavyweight #1, Tommy Yarosz, is in for his second schedule 10-round bout of his career. Yarosz has incredible speed, fantastic counterpunching and a great skill set. Akhurst has had losing efforts against Jack A. Johnson and Leonard Morrow as his most noteable efforts.

Round 1

Yarosz lands at an incredible rate and is extremely busy, fast and accurate in big 1st round for him. 10-9 Tommy Yarosz

Round 2

More of the same. Yarosz is looking very strong here. 20-18 Tommy Yarosz

Round 3

Akhurst comes out with intensity in the 3rd as he really gives it his all, but still loses the round and even seems to tire out in the process. 30-27 Tommy Yarosz

Round 4

Akhurst is cut from an accidental headbutt. The referee and the ringside doctor takes a quick look at the cut and decides to let the fight go on. The round is more of the same, with Yarosz landing at will and Akhurst not landing at all. 40-36 Tommy Yarosz

Round 5

Yarosz kept at it, moving well, scoring with ease. 50-45 Tommy Yarosz

Round 6

Same story, boxing lesson. 60-54 Tommy Yarosz

Round 7

Still great focus from Yarosz who is an impossible target. 70-63 Tommy Yarosz

Round 8

Yarosz doesn't do much, but still enough. 80-72 Tommy Yarosz

Round 9

Yarosz dominates the round, when the referee decides to take another look at the cut that has blood running down Akhursts face. He calls the fight to a halt, and as there are more than 4 rounds in the books we are going to the cards early.

The cards read: 79-73, 80-72 and 79-73 all for Yarosz.

Tommy Yarosz remains on top of the light-heavyweight division and improves his record to 24-1 (5) with an impressive perfomance.

Parc des Sports, Pont Audemer, Eure, France

HW: Johnny Williams 15-2-1 (5) UD 8 Razvan Potor 14-6-1 (11)
All seemed even after four, but Williams slowly took control and won a farely wide decision. Williams moves to #6 in the heavyweight division.

FW: Ray Famechon 16-0-3 (5) Draw 8 Al Phillips 10-2-5 (3)
Famechon probably landed more, and the french crows was very unhappy with the decision, but round per round 4 for each seems fair. Famechon remains at #4.

BW: Luis Romero 23-2-1 (15) TKO 1 (cuts) Malaki Salah 9-10-6 (1)
Romero cut Salah with the first punch of the fight, and late in the round the ref and the doctor decided to call it off in favor of Romero, who is now #12.

MW: Robert Villemain 12-1-1 UD 8 Joey DeJohn 21-4 (15)
Nice win for Villemain who was the better man througout and scored a clear decision as he moves up to #8.

MW: Cyrille Delannoit 16-1-2 (2) UD 8 George Ross 9-6-2 (1)
Dull and surprisingly close fight ended with a 2 point decisions win for the belgian who is now #7.

Main Event

MW: Anton Raadik 21-2 (12) UD 8 Pat Washington 8-5-2 (1)
Raadik scored knockdowns in rounds 2, 5 and 8 on the way to a shutout decision. The estonian overtakes Artie Towne for the #3 spot.

FW: Jackie Graves 20-3 (15) UD 8 Guillermo Espinosa 13-10-1 (3)
Graves dominated the fight easily and almost scored a knockout as Espinosa was saved by the bell in the final round. Graves improves to #6 with a nice shutout.

MW: Artie Towne 21-1-1 (9) TKO 2 Cris Prieto 11-10 (4)
A slow 1st, was followed by a hammering in the 2nd as Towne went in for the kill after a knockdown and the referee ended it late in the round. Towne overtakes Raadik for the #3 spot.

Co-Feature and Main Event (live)

WW: Ray Robinson 21-0 (17) vs Ali Lumo 11-10-1 (1)
One of the many big welterweight prospects, the incredibly skilled and fast Ray Robinson, takes on unknown Ali Lumo whose biggest feats are losses to Tommy Bell and Bernard Docusen.

Round 1

Robinson measured the distance for the first two minutes, and he seemed to figure it out as he ended the round with big shots in bunches. 10-9 Ray Robinson

Round 2

Robinson started slow again, but this time only for a minute as he landed two hooks in quick succession to knock Lumo the floor. The second Lumo made it up, Robinson was all over him and with a clever combination to the body, Lumo was done.

Ray Robinson KO 2 Ali Lumo

Ray Robinson remains #4 in the welterweight division, and improves his record to 22-0 with 18 knockouts.

George Costner 24-0-1 (17) vs Jason Cragg 13-10-2 (2), 10 rounds

The #1 welterweight and #2 p4p George Costner should not struggle too much with canadian journeyman Jason Cragg in the first 10 rounder of his career. Costners athleticism, speed and power combination has impressed the whole world so far and he definately is one of the best boxers out there at the moment.

Round 1

After landing well early, a fantastic uppercut made Cragg kiss the floor only a minute into the fight. Able to get up, he tried to cover up, but Costner kept on firing and got his man down again and this time the canadian couldn't get up.

George Costner KO 1 Jason Cragg

Yet another proof of the incredibly talentfilled welterweight division, with a stunning 1st round knockout as Costner keeps his #1 spot and improves his record to 25-0-1 with 18 knockouts.

Friday Night Fights

WW: Tony DeMarco 9-0 (6) KO 1 Carey Mace 17-7 (6)
Very impressive win in what was being perceived as a very tough test at this early point for DeMarco.

WW: Johnny Greco 17-4 (7) KO 8 Juan Padilla 10-1
A minor upset as Greco takes the win in his homecountry with a big combination in the 8th. Greco was ahead on the cards going in to the final round. Greco is now #25.

FW: Percy Bassett 12-0 (5) UD 8 Dave Gallardo 5-3-2 (1)
This speedy young featherweight scored two knockdowns on the way to a shutout decision. Bassett moves to #9.

LW: Henry Davis 22-1 (3) SD 8 German Diaz 9-11-2 (4)
Davis seems to have been affected by the upset knockout loss against Danny Webb and only just escaped with a split decision against someone he should never struggle against. Davis remains #10.

BW: Fernando Gagnon 21-2 (17) KO 3 Yugoro Agano 12-10 (2)
No worries for Gagnon who overtakes cuban Manuel Armenteros for the #3 spot.

Main Event

LHW: Yvon Durelle 13-0-3 (4) Draw (tec) 4 Sebastian Hasler 9-8-3 (3)
An accidental headbutt caused a cut to Hasler and when the fight was ended in round 4 it was therefore a technical draw. Durelle drops to #11.

Connecticut Convention Center, Hartford, CT, USA

WW: Luther Rawlings 16-0 (3) UD 8 Ray Acosta 5-6-1
A simple win for Rawlings who scored a shutout on two of three cards as he improves to #10.

WW: Billy Graham 23-2 (4) UD 8 Monte Anderson 10-10-3 (4)
Another mismatch, as Graham takes an easy shutout on all cards as he overtakes Kid Gavilan for the #7 spot.

WW: Bernard Docusen 23-2 (5) KO 1 Hirokumi Ikeda 10-10-3 (3)
Docusen takes an impressive 1st round knockout against an impressive opponent as he remains #5 in the strong welterweight division.

Main Event (live)

FW: Willie "Will O' the Wisp" Pep 25-0 (16) vs Ray Ramon Alva 16-8-1 (5), 10 rounds

The brilliant Willie Pep, p4p #1, fights his third ever 10 rounder against mexican journeyman Ray Ramon Alva,

Round 1

Pep scores with short quick punches and this looks like a mismatch already. 10-9 Willie Pep.

Round 2

His speed is blinding at times, in another easy round for Pep. 20-18 Willie Pep

Round 3

Pep is very focused and disciplined, but in this kind of fight it probably wouldn't hurt him to cut loose a bit more, and the crowd seems to think this too. 30-27 Willie Pep.

Round 4

Alva gets in one of his very few punches, but Pep shows his counterpunching skills as he rips home a hook that sends Alva to the canvas for a 4-count. Pep got in some more punches, but couldn't finish it off. 40-35 Willie Pep

Round 5

Pep is handing out a beating here. It seems pointless to keep this fight going. Almost a 2-point round for Pep. 50-44 Willie Pep

Round 6

It almost seems like Pep wants this to go on as he lands at will, but for the most part just moves in and out, confusing Alva. 60-53 Willie Pep

Round 7

Alvas best round, still an easy one for Pep. 70-62 Willie Pep

Round 8

A beating. 80-71 Willie Pep

Round 9

Pep takes a breather for the full 3 minutes and as such the round is even. 90-81 Willie Pep

Round 10

Pep lands a couple of big shots, but Alva hangs on. 100-90 Willie Pep

Official scorecards read: 100-89, 100-89 and 99-90 all for Willie Pep.

Easy win, that shows his great skill and speed. Willie Pep is still #1 in the featherweights, and p4p as he improves his record to 26-0 with 16 knockouts.

Savoy Hotel, London, England

FW: Ronnie Clayton 20-2 (8) UD 8 Vincent Oakley 6-7-2 (1)
Clayton scored two knockdowns and probably could have ended it, but insted scored a shutout win as he remains the #8 featherweight.

MW: Dave Sands 19-1 (10) SD 8 Sugar Boy Nando 7-2
Sands struggled a bit, but always seemed in control against a tough opponent. It is a mystery how one judge saw this fight for Nando. Sands improves to #4.

HW: Jack Gardner 8-0 (5) KO 5 Phil Holloway 11-6 (4)
Great things are expected from Jack Gardner as he has already defeated some strong heavyweights, most notable is his knockout win against #4 at the time Freddie Schott and his decision against Joe Muscato. As such this looked like a big upset as Holloway dominated Gardner for 4 rounds and even put him to the floor in the 3rd. Gardner proved that he should never be ruled out though, as he only needed one punch and it was lights out for Holloway. Unimpressive, but Gardner stays undefeated.

FLY: Terry Allen 18-1 (2) UD 8 Terry Holt 9-7-5 (1)
The flyweight #2 did not look impressive, but did enough to take the win and stay high in the rankings.

HW: Bruce Woodcock 20-1 (17) KO 5 Pedro Santos 11-12-1 (3)
Nice fight as Woodcock hammered Santos to the floor in the 1st, but was in return put down by Santos, for the 3rd time of Woodcocks career i might add, in the 2nd. The 3rd had both fighters looking to recover, before Woodcock landed another power punch to floor Santos in the 4th and in the 5th it was a slaughter as he sent the argentine down three times to win by knockout. Woodcock remains #3 in the heavyweight division.

Main Event

HW: Don Cockell 19-0-1 (9) UD 8 Amente Mensah 9-7-3 (6)
Cockell struggled as all was even after four, but Cockell took control with a knockdown in the 5th and in the end scored a decision, although not a wide one. Cockell remains #2 in the heavyweight division.

Interesting start -- especially with Phil Muscato still unbeaten, if not exactly electrifying. Arguably the best heavy ever from Buffalo (shallow pool, I know), he gave Marciano a good test in RL -- specifically, the durability of the Rock's fists. Phil went down nine times in five rounds, getting saved by the bell twice. Nice work by the ref. Of course, he was well past prime then, so maybe he'll get his revenge here. Or at least go six rounds.

Casino Rama is a nice fight venue, too. Good to see it in play.

Palacio Deportes, Havana, Cuba

The best Cuba has to offer in the boxing world all take on opponents from around the globe as they look to become world champions.

FW: Miguel Acevedo 17-1 (6) UD 8 Habimana Saitoti 9-10 (1)
Acevedo cruised to a wide decision as he remains #5 in the featherweights.

HW: Nino Valdes 19-1 (12) KO 1 Andy Wilson 8-5-1 (3)
Everyone wrote off Valdes when he was upset by Gordon Robertson in a 1st round KO, but since then he has won three bouts, all by KO, and two of them in the 1st round. Valdes improves to #11 in the heavyweight division.

BW: Manuel Armenteros 14-0 (8) UD 8 Valdemar Lang 11-13-4
Armenteros found Lang surprisingly difficult to handle as he only just escaped with a close decision. Armenteros overtakes canadian Fernando Gagnon for the #3 spot.

LW: Orlando Zulueta 15-0 (1) UD 8 Oscar Hayes 6-7-1 (2)
Shutout for Zulueta in a dull fight. Zulueta remains #7.

Co-feature (live)

WW: Kid Gavilan 15-0-1 (1) vs Doug Lane 12-13 (3), 8 rounds

"The Cuban Hawk" has impressed alot of pundits because of incredible defense and hand speed that has already secured him decision win against Norman Rubio (15-3, 2 KOs today) and Danny Kapilow (22-3, 14 KOs today). Doug Lane is tough (only been stopped once), but he is no match for Gavilan.

Round 1

Good action as Lane actually gets in a couple of good shots, though Gavilan lands more effectively to take the round. 10-9 Kid Gavilan

Round 2

Alot of clinching for the first minute, replaced with nice exchanges that noone, surprisingly, seemed to get the better of. Slow start so far for the cuban hawk. 20-19 Kid Gavilan

Round 3

This is the Gavilan i know. Moving in and out, scoring with quick punches, and not getting hit in turn. 30-28 Kid Gavilan

Round 4

Gavilan misses more than you'd expect him to, but still does more work. Not the slaughtering expected so far though. 40-37 Kid Gavilan

Round 5

Carbon copy of the 4th, except this time he does not do enough to take the round. 50-47 Kid Gavilan

Round 6

What a snoozefest. No action at all for the first 2 minutes, then Gavilan lands some combinations to grab the round. 60-56 Kid Gavilan

Round 7

Nice round, though Lane did more work and landed more and took the round. 69-66 Kid Gavilan

Round 8

First really good round for the cuban. 79-75 Kid Gavilan

We go to the scorecards: 79-74 on all three cards for Kid Gavilan

Unimpressive, but Gavilan does show elements of skill as he improves to 16-0-1 with 1 KO, and a ranking of #7.

Main Event (live)

BW: Luis Galvani 23-0 (12) vs Tony Mathis 9-15-2 (1), 10 rounds

The undefeated Bantamweight #1 takes on journeyman Tony Mathis and should get an easy win with his fast and accurate punches.

Round 1

Mathis lands the more meaningfull punches as Galvani just tries to find the distance. 10-9 Tony Mathis

Round 2

Galvani lands at will in the beginning, but Mathis gets in a big punch. Galvani is unfazed and dishes out a beating for the remainder of the round. 19-19 Even

Round 3

Galvani wins the round with some nice counter-punching. 29-28 Luis Galvani

Round 4

Galvani stuns Mathis several times and has him on wobbly legs. 39-37 Luis Galvani

Round 5

Galvani dances and scores at will. Big round for the cuban. 49-46 Luis Galvani

Round 6

Mathis is taking some serious punishment, but he is still throwing punches and occasionally landing. Galvani is looking great so far. 59-55 Luis Galvani

Round 7

After none to little action for most of the round, Galvani stuns Mathis in a late rally to win the round. 69-64 Luis Galvani

Round 8

Galvani is dishing out some more punishment as swelling starts to appear around Mathis right eye. The action slows late in the round. 79-73 Luis Galvani

Round 9

Big shots seriously hurts Mathis who is send to the canvas, unable to rise.

Luis Galvani KO 9 Tony Mathis

A really good perfomance from Luis Galvani who improves to 24-0 with 13 knockouts and remains on top of the bantamweight division.

I have actually been very surprised to see him do so well, but he has not really been tested yet.

Could be an interesting fight, although i can't see Marciano struggling too much versus Muscato.

Big upset in a crazy fight. Coblah did as expected by knocking Bocian down twice in the 1st, but then out of nowhere Bocian landed a wild uppercut and it was lights out for Coblah who was #9 going into the fight. Bocian is now #23, Coblah #24.

Seemingly tough test overcome with impressive ease as Williams scored a knockdown in the 2nd and won a shutout decision. Williams improves to #6.

Great perfomance from Dawson who scored two knockdowns and won a shutout as he improves to #4.

Big round for Bell who stunned Carkido with some big shots. 29-29

Round 4

Bell looks great, and although Carkido got in some nice shots towards the end, it was his round. 39-38 Tommy Bell

Main Event (live)

LHW: Bob Murphy 23-0-1 (19) vs Simon Blezard 15-10 (6), 8 rounds

The light-heavyweight #1 should overcome Blezard.

Round 1

Only 20 seconds gone and Murphy sends Blezard to the canvas with a wild uppercut. Blezard gets up, and hangs on very well. 10-8 Bob Murphy

Round 2

Blezard looks very well as he gets the upper hand in exchanges and wins the round. 19-18 Bob Murphy

Round 3

Blezard is very active, but gets careless and is send to the floor from a great combination. He shows heart though, and survives the round. 29-26 Bob Murphy

Round 4
