The Natural - An alternative career sim

Ok, I've been wanting to this for a while and although it's an MMA sim, I think it could be an enjoyable read for you guys. I've been running a fictional MMA universe for 7 years of game time and I've toyed with the idea of bringing in some MMA legends and see how they fare. The year is 2006, Randy Couture will be making his MMA debut at age 22. I'll expand on the backstory of the universe as Randy's career progresses. For now, let's see if he can make it out of the preliminaries and on to the main card of my company.

Friday, 21st July, 2006

HW Division Prelim (3x5 minutes)

Randy "The Natural" Couture (0-0)

VS

Frank "The Baby Bull" Sheedy (31-9-1)

The opponent: Frank Sheedy (38 years, 6'4", 257 lbs) is a solid journeyman who is currently enjoying a 4-fight win streak. He has had some success on the regional and indy-scene but never left a serious mark in the big leagues. Age has taken its toll on the wrestler, diminishing his grappling skills and cardio significantly. He still has some pop in his right though and outweighing Randy by 30 pounds, a flash KO is always possible.

The fight

Round 1: Couture immediately sought to take this fight to the ground but Sheedy was equal to both attempts. Frank Sheedy couldn't get much of an offense going but controlled Randy against the fence for a solid portion of the round. An extremely close but uneventful round.

Round 2: Sheedy sprawls another takedown attempt and hits Randy with a couple of punches from the front-facelock position. Randy manages to score some jabs but also has another takedown attempt blocked. Couture stings Sheedy with a punishing right hook. Score it 10-9 Couture

Round 3: Sheedy repeatedly tries to score with some big uppercuts but Randy easily avoids them. Sheedy blocks another takedown attempt and backs Couture against the cage. Score it 10-9 for Sheedy

the verdict: Ramiro Vasquez scores it 29-28 Couture
John Sheringham has it 30-27 Sheedy
Albert Mailer scores the bout 29-28 Couture

Couture makes quick work of Kitaguchi

Two months after struggling through his GAMMA debut, heavyweight prospect Randy Couture entered the cage again last night, taking on another wrestler in Daigo Kitaguchi (32 yrs, 6-8 record) from Nagoya, Japan. Kitaguchi never posed a threat to the American who quickly mounted him after the opening bell and fired away with strikes, forcing referee John Seavers to stop the match at 3:01 minutes into the first round. Kitaguchi is 0-2 now on American soil, his other loss came against former American HW superstar James Foster. Randy Couture improves his record to 2-0. According to GAMMA president Jay Booker, Couture is likely to fight at least one more time this year.

Couture to take part in the GAMMA Gladiator

Gamma officials have just announced that they will be holding a one-night 8 man tournament later this year which will be aired live on free TV. The tournament will feature regional talent and a six-figure contract with GAMMA will be at stake. Randy Couture and Frank Sheedy are the first two confirmed participants. More entrants will be revealed in the coming days.
