Ray Mancini Career Replay

This will be a replay of Ray Mancini’s boxing career including all the bouts/fighters that appeared on his fight cards throughout his career. Any fighter that has not been rated by the TBCB 3 team and appears on the fight card with Mancini, will be rated and a boxer file attached for anyone wishing to download them.

I will follow Mancini’s career until the day after the Duk Koo Kim fight. Since Mancini only fought 8 more times in a 10 year span after the Kim fight, I’ll keep Mancini active in this replay and schedule fights I wanted to see in addition to his last 8 real life fight cards. The fight cards I schedule, Mancini will fight (my choice) on an actual fight card that was scheduled for the date I pick.

With all the fighters in the game.........I really had a hard time picking the one fighter to replay.

Actually, I had no problem at all and the best part, I'll be in charge of his career after the Kim fight. Championship bouts will still be 15 rounds.

Great idea ... and a great vehicle for new files (many of which I'm sure will find their way into my Page uni).

I used to argue with a buddy of mine about Mancini when I was a kid. At the time, I thought he was a bit overrated -- probably because he was on TV all the time and got the gushing treatment from CBS -- but with the benefit of hindsight (and re-watching the Arguello fight), he deserved the hype.

It will be interesting to see what happens post-Kim, assuming he doesn't stumble before that. His downfall against Bramble came here in Buffalo -- hope you keep that one, or another bout, at the old Aud, which came down last year.

I think he was slightly overrated in his day and has become criminally underrated. His rating of 7 in the game is too low imo.I have him as a 9. Just look at Ramirez rating and then watch mancini completely dominate him over 12 shut out rounds.

It's odd how time changes things just on perception alone.

While I never felt he was overrated in his day, I do agree he's way underrated now. I'd LOVE to see your rating of him!

Agree 100%.

As of right now for this replay.....I have him rated as an 8......subject to change maybe. IMO, I think his overall TB rating is a reflection of his 4-4 finish to his career when he was not in full prime. I guarantee Mancini will be in Prime shape for those last 8 fights of his career during the replay. Maybe he can take Bramble out this time around.

I'll be kinda of be glad when I reach the later stages of his career so I won't have as many fighters to rate. I don't mind doing them, I'm just anxious to see how far I can take Mancini's career and rating the fighters slows things down a bit.

I run at least 1000 fights per fighter while rating (creating) them. The ones I'm posting here in the early goings are harder, due to the fact they have not faced any fighters already rated in the DB. Which means I have to more research on their prior competition.

Speaking of this, I'm putting the final touches on the next fight card tweaking the next 6 fighters that will be joining the replay.

This is Awesome!!!!. Ray was is and always be my favorite fighter. I had the pleasure of meeting Ray back in 1991 and he is genuinely a nice and decent man. I can remember shaking like a leaf when I met him. Meeting someone famous is cool but when it is your idol Totally different. I SAL will be tuning into this one regularly.

Also I may have mentioned in maybe my own uni. That til this day I watch the Bramble fights mainly the 2nd fight and hope the ending will be different.

I feel the same as you do on this one. Maybe things will change in the replay and we'll get the ending to that fight we're looking for.

This is going to be a GREAT universe. I was big Ray Mancini fan as a kid. When he lost to Bramble I couldn't believe it. At the time I hated Bramble for it. Now I've become a Bramble fan!

It will be interesting to see how his career goes, especially after the Bramble fight. Mancini had several potential Superfights that never materialized: Kenny Bogner, Aaron Pryor, Sean O' Grady, Howard Davis Jr., Hector Camacho (when they did actually fight, I don't think it was a true reflection of what may have occurred had they fought earlier in thier careers).

Looking forward to how it all plays out!

Boxing Magazine caught up with 18 year old boxing phenom, Ray "Boom Boom" Mancini at his Youngstown, Ohio home the other night for a little sit down.

Brief Bio:
Mancini was discovered by trainer Murphy Griffith at the National Golden Gloves Tournament in Indianapolis. Griffith stated that Mancini was a pressure-type fighter with power in both hands, solid chin, and uses his average foot speed to effectively cut off the ring.

Ray Mancini (born March 4, 1961) from Youngstown, Ohio, who was given the nickname "Boom Boom" because of his whirlwind fighting style.

Mancini's father, Lenny Mancini, was a top ranked contender during the 1940s, who was considered by many to be a future world champion. His dream, however, was dashed after he was wounded during World War II. He returned to boxing, but his physical problems prevented him from fulfilling his potential.

Lenny became Ray's inspiration, and Ray started going to the gym at a young age. Ray had a stellar amateur career that included winning the Cleveland Golden Gloves district title three years in a row before making the jump to the professional ranks.

Boxing Magazine: To what extent were you aware of your father’s ring career?

Ray Mancini: In our cellar, my father has a scrapbook of his career and several Ring magazines of the ’30s and ’40s. I know his career better than he does! He tells me all the stories about the great fighters who trained alongside him at Stillman’s Gym in New York — Lou Ambers, Tony Canzoneri and Henry Armstrong, whom my father idolised.

BM: Is your father active in your training today?

RM: Once I began boxing, my dad is the perfect fight father: supportive but never in my corner because emotions can take over thought. Whenever I ask him for advice, he usually says: “Just go in and throw punches!”

BM: As an amateur, you stalled at the national semi-finals. How come?

RM: Several reasons. Firstly, there’s nothing more political than amateur athletics in America. I suffered some terrible decisions. Secondly, my trainer Murphy Griffith is from the old school so we do a lot of things that aren’t traditional. Even in the amateurs, I had a professional style.

BM: It has been two days since your fight in Phoenix, AZ and I see you have another bout scheduled in nine days in D.C. Why take fights on such short notice so early in you pro career?

RM: I just want to get as much experience in the pro ring as fast as I can. The faster I can learn the pro game, the quicker I can reach my goal which is hopefully, a title shot.

Fight recap:

Mancini landed a massive uppercut 30 seconds into the fight that resulted in a nine count. Somehow, Patterson manged to rise before the count of ten. Mancini then went on the attack missing alot. Second round saw Patterson running for the entire round. Mancini took the 3rd round off. In the 4th, Mancini went back to his original game plan and landed often dropping Patterson for the second time at the 2:12 mark. The knock down resulted in another nine count. Not much happened in the 5th & 6th round as Mancini looked to be out of gas and Patterson was too hurt to even know where he was at.
