Welterweight 3rd Round- Part 8 of 8

- King Tut 16-6 (6) UD10 Irineo Flores 14-6-2 (7)
- Yuri Boy Campas 29-13 (19) KO7 Florentino Fernandez 53-11-1 (46)
- Peter waterman 14-5-4 (10) MD10 Glenwood Brown 14-6-2 (4)
- Diosbelys Hurtado 32-11 (24) SD10 Cocoa Kid 34-8-1 (9)

- Hurtado was the benefit of a gift from the officials. He fought well and floored Cocoa in the third with a sharp right hand. It was a bruising affair that saw both men warned 3 times for infractions but only the Kid was docked a point. Even with that, he outlanded Hurtado 306-192 and controlled most of the action only to fall short, 95-93x2 & 92-96

- Mark Breland 18-3-1 (9) TKO5 Armando Muniz 13-8-1 (7)
- Ted Lewis 71-11-5 (25) MD10 Bernie Terrell 14-7-1 (3)
- Edwin Mack 16-4-2 (10) UD10 Hector Camacho 50-12-2 (4)

- Not Hector's best division, but rumors were that he was doing nothing more than party for training and this time it caught up to me. Mack spent most of the fight with his head in Hector's chest and he cruised to a UD, 98-92x2 & 97-94.

- Werther Arcelli 16-6 (4) MD10 Dixie Kid 15-7 (3)
- Eamonn Magee 11-11 (5) UD10 Giovanni Parisi 20-22-1 (8)
- Frank Olsen 17-4-1 (10) MD10 Charley Fusari 32-8-3 (14)
- California Jackie Wilson 37-5-2 (14) UD10 Barry Brown 16-5-1 (10)
- Andre Berto 18-2-2 (12) D10 Roger Menetrey 17-3-2 (14)

- Not a thriller and a draw seemed fair. berto did a lot of holding on the inside, but his speed had the edge from a distance.

- Sid Barbarian 14-3-5 (4) UD10 Johnny Cesario 16-5-1 (2)
- Alvaro Gutierrez 15-6-1 (11) UD10 Alf Mancini 18-4 (8)
- Kermit Cintron 28-14 (21) TKO4 Kirkland Laing 13-6-3 (6)
- Curtis Cokes 18-3-2 (6) UD10 Jackson Bonsu 14-6-2 (7)

Rematches:

- Andre Berto 19-2-2 (12) MD10 Roger Menetrey 17-4-2 (14)

- In a sharp contrast to the first fight, they got after it in the rematch. Berto climbed off the canvas in the fourth to punish the Frenchman down the stretch. He scored a flash KD of his own in round eight from a flashy salvo of shots and pulled away for a hard fought dec, 96-92, 96-93 & 94-94

- Masashi Kudo 15-6 (9) KO2 Jose Aponte 7-15 (4)
- Julian Jackson 37-5 (36) TKO7 Buster Drayton 10-11-1 (7)

- The ref stopped a gutsy effort from Drayton. Jackson started dropping bombs from the opening bell and Drayton ate them and fired back as best he could. Julian was hurt by a hook in the fourth but other than that it was all Jackson. Buster never left his feet, but his left eye was closing and he was getting pummeled along the ropes when the fight was mercifully stopped.

Jr Middleweight 2nd round- Part 5 of 8

- Alfredo Angulo 16-4-1 (14) KO3 Darrell Woods 8-14 (1)
- Omar Henry 12-8-1 (7) UD10 Jaimie Moore 13-7-1 (7)

- Omar dropped Moore hard 80 seconds in with a crushing hook. Jaimie was up at nine and absorbed a lot of punishment in surviving the round. After another strong round from Omar, Moore connected with a straight right that dropped him seconds into the third, the brit wasn't able to follow up but he had a strong 4th with several hard right hands. Henry regained control with a furious assault in a dominant 5th. Omar was pretty much in command from that point forward and he dropped Moore again in the eighth on his way to the hard fought UD, 96-91x2 & 95-93

- Shigemasa Kawakami 14-6-1 (8) TKO7 Glenn Wolfe 5-13-3 (3)
- Vincent Pettway 31-10-2 (22) TKO8 Osumanu Adama 7-12-2 (4)

- Raul Marquez 34-7-1 (18) KO4 Gene Wells 7-10-4 (1)
- Sandy Torres 8-11-2 (4) TKO9 Yuri Boy Campas 29-14 (19)

- Torres opened a gash over Ramon's eye in the first minute of the fight and he controlled the first four rounds. Campas battled back but the cut was never fully controlled and it exploded during the 9th forcing a stoppage and the upset win for Sandy. It wasn't just a cut win, he was ahead on all cards by 3 on 2 & 1 on the other.

- Cory Spinks 46-10-8 (7) D10 Alain Bonnamie 7-12-2 (2)
- Tony Chiaverini 13-8 (6) UD10 Mamadou thiam 14-6-1 (9)
- Miguel Angel Castellini 13-5-3 (7) UD10 Shannan Taylor 8-13 (4)
- Jason Papillion 7-13-1 (3) TKO3 Alejandro Garcia 12-7-2 (11)

- In an absolute shootout, Jason floored garcia in the first with a wicked UC. Alejandro returned the favor with a hard right hand in the second. During a heavy trade early in round three Papillion connected with a winging right that sent Alejandro down again and the follow up barrage caused the stoppage and the upset victory.

- Ralph Dupas 15-6 (5) UD10 Jose Antonio Rivera 10-11 (4)

Jr Middleweight 2nd round- Part 7 of 8

- Luigi Minchillo 13-6-2 (6) SD10 Kazuhiko Hidaka 13-6-2 (4)
- Ricardo mayorga 26-14-3 (17) UD10 Bronco McKart 12-7-2 (4)
- Denny Moyer 12-4-5 (4) D10 Alex Bunema 5-14-2 (1)
- Gerhard Piaskowy 13-3-5 (1) MD10 Rashid Matmula 5-15-1 (3)
- Charkey Ramon 11-7-3 (7) UD10 Anthony Thompson 12-7-2 (8)
- Gary Stretch 8-12-1 (1) UD10 Monty Betham 8-11-2
- Yudel Johnson 14-5-2 (9) KO2 Harry Yorgey 6-13-2 (2)
- Javier Castillejo 25-15-3 (9) KO9 Nick Acevedo 6-15 (1)
- Walter Gomez 12-6-3 (6) UD10 Rodney Jones 12-9 (4)
- Richard Williams 13-8 (10) TKO8 Jose Manuel Duran 5-14-2 (4)
- Roberto Duran 71-13-2 (45) UD10 Sergio Mora 27-13-2 (7)

- The bigger and faster Mora figured to provide a difficult style for the legendary Hands of Stone. During the first three rds that was far from the case as Mora did very little as Duran scored with hard lead rights and completely carried the action. Perhaps the latin Snake had a bit of stage fright, because he fought brilliantly in the next four rounds, outboxing Duran and moving away from the heavy incoming.

- Then in the eighth the hands of Stone struck with a short right hand that sent the durable Mora to the canvas. Moments later he was floored by a wicked body shot. Sergio survived, but that was all he could do. Roberto dropped him again in the final round to leave no doubt who was taking the UD.

- Tyrone Trice 27-13-3 (14) TKO1 Sammy Fuentes 11-10 (7)
- Angel Hernandez 13-5-3 (9) SD10 Gilbert Cohen 5-16 (2)
- Ike Quartey 30-10-3 (18) UD10 JC Candelo 8-8-5 (4)
- Grady Brewer 14-6-1 (10) KO4 Manning Galloway 11-8-2 (3)
- Michele Piccirillo 9-12 (5) KO10 Matthew Hilton 9-11-1 (4)

- The Canadian started quickly and floored Michele in the second en route to a big early lead. Hilton didn't enter the ring in ideal condition and that started to play a role down the stretch when he was dropped twice in round eight and again for the count in the tenth and final round.

Rematches:

- Denny Moyer 13-4-5 (4) SD10 Alex Bunema 5-15-2 (1)

Jr Middleweight 2nd round- Part 8 of 8

- Raymundo Torres 15-6 (12) KO5 Sam Garr 5-14-2 (4)
- Alvin Anderson 13-7-1 (3) UD10 Daniel mendez 12-8-1 (4)
- Jae-Hyung Yuh 12-9 (6) MD10 Mark Medal 15-5-1 (5)
- Cornelius Bundrage 12-9 (8) TKO4 Earl Hargrove 11-8-2 (7)

- K-9 was like a pit bull, fighting off an early assault from Hargrove and flooring him late in the first with an UC. Earl was not impressed and he dropped Bundrage with a murderous right early in the second and unloaded on the former contender the rest of the way. They took turns in the third with hargrove starting well, before gassing and leaving the opening for Cornelius to rock him just before the bell. Then in the fourth K-9 floored an exhausted Hargrove with a combo and then hammered him until the ref stepped in.

- Joachim Alcine 7-7-7 (3) UD10 Eddie Gazo 12-9 (5)
- Kenny Bristol 9-9-3 (2) D10 Anthony Stephens 6-11-4 (2)
- Kofi Jantuah 27-14-1 (16) UD10 Kevin Kelly 10-9-2 (6)
- Said Ouali 11-8-2 (4) UD10 Nicolas Cervera 26-16 (18)
- Darrin vanhorn 12-8-1 (4) UD10 Frank Wissenbach 12-9 (2)
- Shane Mosley 55-10 (35) KO7 Laurent Boudouani 11-9-1 (11)

- In a top flight match up for only the second round Shane met the underrated Frenchman head on and floored him at the end of an exciting opening round with a short right hand. They traded heavy blows with the exception of both men taking a breather in the fifth. The seventh was war, with Laurent pressing the action and Shane countering well. Boudouani looked on his way to a big round when Mosley unloaded a blistering combo that connected flush and flattened Laurent where he was practically motionless during the count. This sets up an anticipated clash with Terry Norris in round 3.

- Deandre Latimore 12-8-1 (11) UTD8 Wilfredo Rivera 26-15-1 (16)
- Pawal Wolak 9-9-3 (7) UD10 Richard Acaylar 12-8-1 (9)
- Lloyd Honeygahn 29-14 (23) TKO9 Adrian Stone 6-13-2 (1)
- Simon Brown 36-5-2 (29) KO5 Mike Baker 9-8-4 (2)

- Simon Brown is a dangerous man and what you would call a deadly floater in the brackets. Nobody wants to see him early. To make it even more concerning he has been the definition of focused. Coming off his demolition of the iron chinned Jose Luis Lopez at welter he was equally as driven against Baker. Mike was brave, but his painful night ended when a right hand separated him from consciousness long before he hit the canvas. The ref didn't bother to count and instead waved in the medics.

- Some fighters say they don't look at the brackets ahead of time. Simon and his next opponent are not two of them. Brown ran across the ring when Baker hit the deck and jumped on the ring post directly in front of Felix trinidad's ring side seat. The two men shared a respectful gaze for what promises to be a slobberknocker in round 3!

- Tony Montgomery 13-7-1 (5) UD10 Marco Antonio Rubio 13-8 (10)
- Tshepo Mashego 5-15-1 (4) D10 Pat Thomas 7-10-4 (2)

Rematches:

- Kenny Bristol 10-9-3 (2) UD10 Anthony Stephens 6-12-4 (2)
- Pat Thomas 8-10-4 (2) UD10 Tshepo Mashego 5-16-1 (4)

Middleweights 3rd Round- Part 1 of 8

- Ray Robinson 43-1 (35) UD10 Paddy Young 12-9-1 (8)
- Marcel Cerdan 22-0 (11) TKO8 Matt Korobov 13-6-3 (8)
- Luis Rodriguez 42-1-1 (17) KO8 George LaBlanche 16-3-3 (3)

- The Canadians rough tactics paid dividends early and he had a nice lead after flooring Luis in the fifth with a clubbing right hand. El Feo dusted himself off and went to work from there, snapping back George's head with brutal UC and finishing him in round eight with a devastating 3 punch combo.

- Carlos Monzon 22-0 (12) UD10 Richard Murphy 13-9 (6)
- Ray Leonard 76-4-5 (39) D10 Jermain Taylor 32-6-4 (14)

- Jermain came out fast and landed several sharp jabs before stunning Leonard and the crowd by dropping him with a nasty combo for a three count. Leonard survived the round and rebounded over the next three behind heavy combinations while taylor continued to wing power shots behind his jab.

- Lightning struck twice early in the fifth when Taylor floored him again with a wicked UC and opened a nasty cut on the inside of Ray's mouth. The second half of the fight was fought at a slower pace and the rounds were very close with the exception of the ninth and that was clearly Taylor's. Jermain was beside himself when he heard two judges card it 94-94 after the first went his way at 95-93

- Marvin Hagler 22-0 (20) KO1 Bucky Lawless 12-9-1 (2)
- Mickey walker 56-5-4 (40) TKO7 Bunny Sterling 13-9 (2)
- Charley Burley 20-2 (9) UD10 Silent Martin 14-8 (3)
- Les Darcy 21-1 (10) TKO8 Juan Carlos Rivero 10-11-1 (6)
- Jake Lamotta 20-1-1 (11) MD10 Daniel Jacobs 12-8-2 (8)

- Jacobs caused early trouble with his speed and jab and he opened a bad gash over a listless LaMotta's right eye. Down on the cards, Jake stepped it up down the stretch punishing Jacobs along the ropes during the final 3 rounds to take the tight dec, 95-95 & 96-94x2

- Paul Williams 57-7-1 (32) UD10 George Cole 25-13-9 (3)
- Sam Langford 78-5-4 (62) KO5 Kingsley Ikeke 13-8-1 (5)
- Roy Jones, Jr. 78-4-3 (51) TKO3 Ishe Smith 10-10-2 (2)
- Thomas Hearns 114-11-1 (89) D10 Bill Heffernan 15-6-2 (11)

- Heffernan stunned everyone in attendance when he dropped a ferocious right hand flush on Tommy's chin and sent him crashing to the canvas a little over a minute into the fight. Hearns was up at six, but not for long as a winging UC floored him again for an eight count. The next two rounds were tight with Hearns regaining his legs. Bill started strong in the fourth and he staggered The HitMan with a vicious cross, moments later Hearns landed a cross of his own and he floored Heffernan for a three count. A crushing UC momentarily had him down again just before the bell.

- They traded savagely for the first two minutes of round five until Hearns landed another booming right hand that had Heffernan in a bad way. Both men took a deserved breather in the next two rounds before rumbling down the stretch with 3 see saw and explosive rounds, capped off by a thrilling tneth that saw both exhausted and wobbled warriors slinging bombs until the final bell. The first judge had it 95-91 Heffernan, but he was overruled with a 94-93 Hearns and a 93-93

- Sebastian Zbik 10-9-4 (3) SD10 Laszlo Papp 17-4-1 (8)

- In a bracket that has been screaming for an upset, the awkward German pulled the trick in a stinky fight. 98-93, 97-94 & 95-96

- Mike McCallum 53-10-1 (36) DQ7 Joe Lipsey 11-9-2 (10)

Rematches:

- Ray Leonard 77-4-5 (39) UD10 Jermain Taylor 32-7-4 (14)

- Leonard flipped the script with Bad intentions in the rematch. He opened a cut over the right eye and left both of Jermain's eyes badly swollen. Taylor showed off his grit climbing off the canvas twice and lasting the distance, but he took an ugly beating after the first two rounds and lost decisively on the cards. 99-89 & 98-90x2

- Thomas Hearns 115-11-1 (90) KO6 Bill Heffernan 15-7-2 (11)

- Tommy fought more disciplined behind his jab until a murderous right hand left Heffernan flat on his face in the sixth.

- Aaron Wade 17-5-1 (3) UD10 Young Peter Jackson 59-20-7 (24)

- Bernard Hopkins 36-3-4 (18) UD10 George Chip 13-8-1 (3)
- Fernando Guerrero 20-1-1 (13) TKO5 Shinji Takehara 11-11 (10)
- Holman Williams 18-3-1 (2) UD10 Jose Basora 14-7-1 (8)

- Florentino Fernandez 54-11-1 (47) TKO4 Robert Villemain 10-9-3 (3)
- Tommy Ryan 38-6 (22) KO8 Frank Moody 8-10-5 (2)
- Gene Fullmer 20-2 (10) SD10 Pierre Langlois 13-8-1 (1)

- The French judge rendered a putrid card for his countryman, but the other two got it right at 98-92 as Fullmer ground him down on the inside.

- Emile Griffith 58-5-3 (13) TKO7 Jimmy Clabby 15-6-1 (2)
- Mustafa Hamsho 20-2 (10) UD10 Hector Constance 11-11 (1)

Middleweights 3rd Round- Part 3 of 8

- Alan Minter 15-7 (7) SD10 Jorge Castro 54-8-1 (44)

- In a very tight battle, Minter pulled off the upset on paper in a fight that most pundits saw as a toss up. Alan was able to dart in and out and survive the rough exchanges inside. He had a big seventh round as he drilled Castro with one straight left hand after another and it helped him eek out the decision, 96-94x2 & 94-96

- Paul Pender 19-2-1 (3) D10 Curtis parker 13-7-2 (9)

- Pender was controlling things from the outside and he opened a cut over Parker's left eye early in the seventh, moments later Curtis unleashed a lethal left hook that put Paul down for a seven count. From that point on Curtis bulled inside and slammed brutal shots to the body with both hands to earn the draw, 96-95 Pender, 96-94 Parker & 95-95

- Dave Sands 17-4-1 (11) TKO8 Holly Mims 27-11-5 (4)

- The Aussie served notice to everyone in the field with a comprehensive destruction of the more than capable Mims. He floored him with a counter hook in the fourth and opened up cuts on his right eyelid and lip in the fifth. With holly gushing blood and pretty much taking a beating the ref stepped in during the eighth.

- Kid Charol 17-3-2 (13) UD10 Blair Richardson 11-11 (8)

Middleweights 3rd Round- Part 5 of 8

- Randy Turpin 18-3-1 (8) UD10 Winky Wright 36-7 (7)

- Winky boxed well for the first four rounds that were evenly contested. In the fifth Randy battered Wright along the ropes for the full three minutes and from there it was pretty much all Turpin. Wright fought bravely, but he couldn't keep Randy at bay with his lack of power and Turpin took the UD, 99-92, 97-94 & 96-94

- Rocky Fumerelle 11-12 (5) UD10 Raymond Joval 13-9 (3)
- Harry Greb 38-5 (25) TKO5 Souleymane Diallo 15-7 (8)
- Charles McCoy 20-1-1 (14) SD10 Harry Simon 24-16-3 (17)

- McCoy and Simon could have contested this one in a baby pool. They traded and mauled each other on the inside from the opening bell. McCoy dropped him in the 6th with an UC and it took Harry another round to get it back together. Simon rallied in the tenth, hurting Charles with a vicious combo. Simon lost a point in the foul filled battle, but it didn't matter, 96-92x2 & 94-95

- Johnny Wilson 17-3-2 (5) UD10 Juan Roldan 16-5-1 (12)
- Jewey Cook 12-9-1 (3) UD10 Charley Humez 15-6-1 (4)

- Wilford Scypion 19-2-1 (10) UD10 Ben Brown 15-6-1 (11)
- Billy Papke 17-3-2 (9) UD10 Frankie Schoell 15-6-1

- In another clash that easily could have come in a much later round. Papke used his superior power to take a tight decision in a hotly contested battle. The majority of the rounds saw Schoell countering off the ropes while Billy hammered away to the body. Papke rocked Frankie twice with right hands, in the 5th and 8th. Schoell put on a dazzling display of combination punching in the final round, but he fell short, 97-94, 97-95 & 96-94

- Jack Dempsey NP 20-2 (8) SD10 Paul Pirrone 13-7-2 (12)

- James Toney 70-8-6 (29) KO9 Peter Quillin 16-5-1 (9)

- Toney was at his sadistic best, working over Peter something fierce. He broke his nose and exploded his left eye before flattening him with an UC in the ninth. Extremely impressive performance.

- Roberto Duran 72-13-2 (45) MD10 Italo Sortichini 7-12-2 (3)
- Lee Sala 15-4-3 (8) TKO9 Al Neill 12-8-2 (4)

- Sala was bailed out by a nasty cut. It was caused by a right hand, but he was way behind and had been floored in the 7th before the gash was opened in the 8th. Tough luck for Neill.

- Rubin Carter 12-9-1 (9) TKO6 Michael Watson 16-5-1 (8)

- Carter's power was too much for Watson. Michael said he intended to box coming in, but it was a firefight from the start. The first round saw both men staggered by wicked left hooks before Carter floored Watson in the second with a right hand. Watson got himself together and fought evenly over the next two rounds before Rubin absolutely mutilated him in the fifth behind a savage double fisted assault. A short hook floored Michael early in the sixth and it was stopped a couple punches later.

- Charley Joseph 13-10 (3) SD10 Hugo Kelly 11-7-4 (3)
- George gardiner 29-10-4 (8) UD10 Agostino Cardamone 10-11-1 (2)
- John Mugabi 35-7-1 (32) TKO3 John David jackson 26-12-5 (5)

- An explosive performance from the Beast ended with 2 kd's and the ref stepping in towards the end of round three. He never let Jackson get off, unloading one booming right hand after another in a statement fight.

- Sammy Walker 13-8-1 (9) KO8 Raul Marquez 34-8-1 (18)

Middleweights 3rd Round- Part 7 of 8

- Charles Turner 15-6-1 (13) UD10 Naotaka Hozumi 9-11-2 (6)
- Willie Monroe 14-7-1 (1) SD10 Jock McAvoy 14-5-3 (9)
- Ace Hudkins 18-3-1 (7) SD10 Victor Zalazar 13-9 (8)
- Mike O'Dowd 21-1 (5) UD10 Mike Donovan 13-6-3 (4)
- Mike Gibbons 15-6-2 (2) UD10 Robbie Sims 13-7-2 (1)
- Ted Lewis 72-11-5 (25) MD10 Carmen Basilio

- In a highly anticipated fight between brawlers, they didn't disappoint as the two waged a foul filled inside battle that featured the lost art of clinch fighting and any other tactic you can think of. A right hand opened a nasty gash on the bridge of Carmen's nose that had some run off into his eye. But blood has never bothered Basilio and he closed strong in the final round, staggering Lewis twice with right hands. One judge had it 95-95, but two sided with the Kid, 96-94 & 97-92, the last score being inexplicable.

- George Duke 17-3-3 (5) D10 Tom Duggan 8-11-3 (2)
- Dmitry Pirog 20-2 (13) UD10 Carl Olson 24-14-5 (10)

- Bobo got off quickly against the awkward Pirog with some clean combos on the inside. Dmitry began to get some distance between them and he changed the tone when he rocked Olson with a wicked right hand in the 6th. From there he was in control, including dropping Carl with a winging hook in round nine en route to the tough UD, 97-93 & 96-93x2

- Gert van Heerden 16-6-1 (8) TKO9 Leo Starosch 11-8-3 (3)
- Billy Arnold 16-4-2 (11) UD10 Michael Olajide 16-6 (9)
- Eddie McGoorty 16-6 (4) SD10 Ernie Vigh 15-6-1 (9)
- Mike Lucie 18-2-2 (12) UD10 Joe Thomas 15-7 (4)
- Robert Allen 14-7-1 (8) TKO3 Jim Pettengell 13-8-1 (6)
- Ronnie Harris 18-3-1 (3) TKO7 Giovanni Lorenzo 16-5-1 (8)
- Arthur abraham 34-7-1 (20) TKO9 Steve Belloise 17-4-1 (10)

- Belloise dominated early, including a 4th round knockdown following a hook to the body and an overhand right to the head. As is his way, Art worked his way into the fight but he was still behind heading into round nine when he caught Steve early with a short right. Abraham pounced on him and a half minute later another right hand had Belloise helpless in the corner. After at least 10 more unanswered power shots the reft stepped in.

- Nigel Benn 37-3-2 (34) KO2 Jackie Clark 13-9 (2)

- Benn sets up what should be an incredible 4th round slugfest against Tony Zale with a scary KO of Clark. He was out for several minutes after a right hand folded him up seconds into the second round.

Rematches:

- George Duke 18-3-3 (6) KO8 Tom Duggan 8-12-3 (2)
