Ha! The Haymakers are off to a blazing start.

Moment of the Match

A Pyrrhic victory at best for Buckeye promotions as they carried the day, but lost the coveted Chilton Cup. John L Sullivan, showing the effects of a man who hasn't bought his own drink since becoming Champion looked slow and sluggish. Gilliam was scarely better, but it was enough to become the new Champion.

Sullivan is Jeckyl and Hyde in this game, he literally threw less than 25 punches total the first 2 rounds before he woke up. I was shocked.

That is the beauty of the 3 round format, leaves things wide open with very unpredictable results.

Moment of the Match

A single right hand from Sully Montgomery that put John Henry Lewis on his back and set the tone for the underdog Cornjabbers to pull off the victory at home in front of a half full house. Lewis, fresh off his Chilton Cup run could not recover in time to pull out the win, leaving a hole his teammates could not dig out of.

Moment of the Match

A tie MOM here as third round knockdowns had a big impact in this outcome. First, Archie Moore, headed to an improbable defeat salvaged a draw with a 3rd round knockdown of Lloyd Marshall. Then Charlie Retzlaff stole victory from the jaws of defeat, decking Roman Greenberg (Who had Retzlaff down in round 2) with just 13 seconds left in the fight. An exciting card in front of a disappointing gate.

Nice start Lee. Lovin it!

The only reason the stands were half full was because Nebraska had a home basketball game tonight.

Moment of the Match

Two rounds and two consecutive stoppages turned a 4-2 deficit into a rout for Hebron as Gerry Cooney put Ocasio down twice to gain a 2nd round TKO and the points sweep, followed by David Izon knocking out Jacobsen with just 7 seconds left in the 1st round to take the full 5 points and stake Hebron to an insurmountable 12-4 lead. Allen and Quezada closed the show by each earning their second straight draw.

Lee:

Would it be too much to put a points earned (PE) column in the team/fighter summaries?

On the Roster page?

I can do that, but I would have to take something off the way I have the excel formulas set up. I could move the career stage to the column before the fighters name....Let me know if this is what you mean.

One thing for everyone to start thinking about for season 2 that I have been thinking about is changing the length of the match bouts to 5 rounds instead of 3. It is definitely unpredictable with 3, but I would like to see a few more stoppages as well and 5 rounds would help that.

I don't want to go any higher than 5, because I want to keep that "on any given day" feeling, which has already happened a bunch, so 5 would be the max. We will vote on that after the season.

That would work if you want to do it. Would shortening to B,Pr, P, Po, E or something like that help?

5 rounds are fine with me.

I can do that I will work on the spreadsheets later today. We will stay with 3 rounds this season and then vote on 3, 4 or 5 for season 2.

As of right now........I think three rounds is perfect. I think we'll have more stoppages as the fighters age (not a bunch...but more) and also the 3 rounders makes the fodder on our rosters worth a little something because they have more of a chance winning in three than they will in five. I like the unpredictable results. Creates strategy on do I spend money on big names when they could lose in 3 or save my bucks and take a chance on the lesser knowns hoping to pull out enough W's over the season to build a nice bank account.

That was my initial line of thought, so I am glad to hear this...

Bottom line is I am having a blast running this as it is not a whole lot of work, goes quick and is unpredictable, so I want to make sure everyone playing is enjoying it as well.

Moment of the Match

A championship belt that is turning out to be more slippery than wet soap could qualify, but instead the moment of this match was the difference a single second made. Having lost the 1st round to Tor Hamer and in a second round too close to call, Eddie Neilson just beat the clock. With but a single second left in round 2, he whistled a right hand down main street that dropped Hamer on his face. The bell rang, but a fighter can not be saved by the bell in the WTB and Hamer would not see the final round as he was counted out.
