Proposals for season 2 of the WTB League - Please vote
I want to start this early so I can prepare, plus we are pretty much at the halfway point of season 1 anyway.
These are things that have been suggested or I have thought about, so I am putting up a poll so we can vote over the next week. If there are ties on anything at the end of the poll I will break the tie ![]() Basically I wanted to start simple and work some extra things in to add to the 'immersion' of the league once I got a good handle on how things would flow. So, with that, these are the items on the table for season 2. Item 1 - Topper Rights This basically is restricted Free Agency. When a fighters contract expires and he goes back into the auction pool, if his services are won by a new team, the old team will have the opportunity to reclaim him by "topping" the winning bid by $1. If his former team decides to do so he returns to them with his salary being the winning + the $1 topper fee. (Example) Tommy Burns was on Hebron and his contract expires, Ice Tea wins his services in the auction with a bid of $10.50. Hebron can claim him back by topping that bid and his salary for the upcoming season with Hebron would be $11.50. I would place parameters on this in that the topper rights would have to be exercised within 24 hrs of the round ending. Item 2 - Trades Very basic trade model either 1 for 1, or 2 for 2 straight up since we have no inseason free agency (which won't be added due to the contract structure). Cash can be included as part of the trade by one of the teams. Any teams completing trades must have the cash to take on the salary of the fighter they are getting (This is where offering cash comes in) Item 3 - Trainers The ability to hire cornermen for your team. Their contracts would work the same as fighters and they would go in the auction as well. The only limitation here is they would have to be both trainer and cutman. In the database right now there are 29 cornermen who can be both, so those would be the ones included on the game. If Topper rights are adopted they will not apply to cornermen if cornermen are voted in. Item 4 - Random events (alternate roster slot) This would be a version of the random events chart that I made years ago and would include injuries, personal life issues and disputes with team ownership. Time missed could range from 1 match to the rest of the season. These events would be rare and likely only affect 2-4 fighters in the entire league during the season. A team can only have 1 fighter out of action at a time, so you would not be subject to a second event while you have a fighter out. This is where the alternate roster spot comes in. If this was adopted each team would add a reserve roster spot for a 6th fighter. This fighter would draw a salary and fight a tomato can once a week (as an undercard attraction at a one of the weekends matches) He would garner wins and losses in this role, but would only acrue season points if activated due to an active fighter missing time. Once the fighter he replaced returned to action he would go back to the reserve spot. Reserve fighters remain in this role the entire season, so you can not demote a fighter not performing well to the reserve spot and "call up" your reserve to take his place if he is perfectly healthy and just sucks (I want to keep things as simple possible on the paperwork end if this is voted in)These are the options, I will leave the poll up until round 7 begins this weekend, please vote on each proposal. Thanks everyone

OK, looks like we have the votes in
Topper rights and Trades are a go for season 2. We will have a trade deadline like Baseball, which will be no trades after round 8. This will add a little bit more strategy to the process. Random events were split, so I will break the tie. I will introduce them on a limited basis, meaning injuries only. This will let everyone see how they come into play and we can vote again for season 3 to either do away with them or introduce all random events. Trainers are a no.
