Another rematch ordered
April 20, 1912
Main Event BW - Johnny Murphy (4/CH) (22-4-2) was given the fight by the referee with a DQ9 win over George Dixon (CH/4) (34-11-1) this won the WBC BW title for Murphy. Dixon was firmly ahead on points when the referee ruled a low blow was intentional and DQ'd Dixon despite no warning or points being taken away. There were no cuts or knockdowns in the fight but I had Dixon ahead 78-75 at the stoppage. Murphy vacates his USBA title. The commissioner (me) ordered a mandatory rematch to be fought in June. Regional Title LH - Billy McColl (22/17) (18-13-1) dominated Arthur McLaglen (29/37) (15-6) (pre) in route to a UD12 for his 2nd defense of the CBU LHW title. McColl nearly won every round and dropped McLaglen in the 3rd and 12th. McColl was cut over the left eye in the 7th but it didn't seem to bother him. I had it 119-107, the official judges had it 119-107/118-108/118-108. Other Fights MW - Charley Davis (UR) (13-0-1) (pre) remained unbeaten with a TKO8 win over Walter Burgo (83/87) (9-11-2) (pre). Burgo's right eye was completely swollen shut (maroon) and he had been down twice in the 8th when the fight was stopped. I had it 70-63 at the stoppage. FW - Jack Greenstock (UR) (7-0-1) (pre) made sure he didn't need the ref's help with a UD8 win over Jack Roberts (club) (7-20-2). A couple of months ago Greenstock was way behind on the scorecards when Roberts was DQ'd. This time there were no cuts or knockdowns but Greenstock left no doubt. I had it 79-74 as did two judges, the third had it 77-76. HW - Larry Foley (7/5) (31-9-3) scored a UD12 over George Godfrey (9/16) (32-16-3) (post) in a battle between two Top 10 HW's. Foley controlled the action and had Godfrey down in the 4th and the 12th. I had it 116-111, the official judges saw it 115-112/117-110/115-112. MW - Eddie McGoorty (17/11) (26-4-1) UD10 Martin Mulverhill (49/57) (12-10-2) |

Regional Title fights LW - Kid Fredericks (19/17) (16-1-1) retained his USBA LW title with a DRAW12 against Willie Ritchie (20/18) (19-4-4). Fredericks had won the title with a SD12 over Ritchie and this fight did nothing to settle the issue. I would expect to see another one down the road. There were no knockdowns or cuts and I had Fredericks winning 3 of the last 4 rounds for my score of 114-114, the official cards had it 114-116/114-114/115-113. HW Paul Samson-Korner (31/26) (19-3) (pre) scored a KO9 against overmatched Antonio Ferranti (UR) (7-5) (pre) for his second defense of the EBU HW title. Ferranti took a beating going down in the 1st, 2nd, and 3 times in the 9th. Samsom had a scare with a cut over his left eye in the 6th. I had it 79-71 at the stoppage. Other fights LH - Tommy Gibbons (UR) (9-0) (pre) scored a KO8 over Cat Eye (UR) (4-5-4) (pre) to remain unbeaten. Gibbons controlled the entire fight then KO'd him in the 8th. There were no other knockdowns or cuts. I had it 69-64 at the stoppage. LW - George Keys (31/31) (17-0-2) scored a UD10 over Paddy Sullivan (107/110) (11-14-1) to remain unbeaten and is still getting no respect in the rankings. Keys won the first five rounds then set it on coast from there. There were no knockdowns or cuts. I had it 98-94, while the official judges saw it 97-95/99-93/98-93. HW - Tom Sharkey (8/6) (37-15-1) KO4 William Hague (14/19) (19-3) (Sharkey at post) MW - Jim Griffin (63/45) (17-8-1) TKO3 Jack McGee (27/36) (16-5) |

Regional Titles BW - Charles Ledoux (27/15) (17-2) shakes off two straight losses to score an easy UD12 over Charles Goldman (10/16) (18-6-1) (pre) to win the EBU BW title. The EBU title has had a new champion in all three fights so far. This one wasn't even close as there were no knockdowns or cuts but Ledoux took nearly every round. I had it 119-109 while the official judges saw it 120-109/119-109/118-110. MW - William Sheriff (UR/9) (15-0) (pre) scored a TKO6 to take the CBU MW title from Jake Ahearn (16/27) (16-2-1) (pre). Ahearn suffered a cut over his right eye in the second and it got worse each round until it was stopped because of it. I had it 48-47 Sheriff at the stoppage. Other fights FW - Jem Driscoll (2/1) (44-7-1) dominated Mississippi (11/19) (14-2-2) (pre) in the first round of the IBF FW tourney. Driscoll won by KO12 but not before inflicting major damage on Mississippi. Driscoll dropped him in the 8th and twice in the 12th. Mississippi's left eye was nearly swollen shut and he was cut badly in the 9th under the right eye. I had it 110-98 at the stoppage. BW - Frankie Burns (15/12) (20-4-1) TKO9 George Wright (32/40) (17-7) WW - Young Peter Jackson (5/5) (27-8-2) UD10 Billy West (64/65) (7-9-3) (west was at pre) LW - Kid McPartland (81/58) (24-21-4) UD10 Danny Duane (29/59) (18-14-4) |

How did a guy who lost two straight get a title shot, who's your matchmaker Don King?

Regional titles are challenged by the highest pp of any fighters scheduled for the month. No rules apply.
He lost the bout for the new EBU title to Pal Moore then was somehow upset by Harry Dally. Last edited by mh2365 : 06-26-2007 at 11:24 PM. |
