Not scheduled until May 25th, second to the last card of the month. 2 weeks until Andreas gets back, shouldn't be a problem. I managed to keep the LBA flowing through beta testing for TBCB2 .. won't be any different here. |

FW - Benny Soloman (21-5-2) scored a TKO7 over Buck Leary (11-12-2) (pre) for his 8th straight win. Soloman is a streaky fighter as this is his second 8 fight win streak which surrounded losing 4 in a row.

Night of the mismatches
May 3rd, 1912
Title Fight HW - Sam Langford (CH) (34-6-2) got the night off basically scoring a KO1 of grossly mismatched Jim Scanlon (15/17) (17-2) (pre). Scanlon had turned in wins against TC's and nobodies to climb the rankings. He hung in there against Pearce Henry in a CBU title match so he got this shot. Langford dropped him twice, the second time for good. It was Langford's 7th defense of the WBA. The WBC and IBF were not on the line tonight Other Fights MW - Gus Christie (UR) (7-0-1) coasted to an easy UD8 over Eddie Moha (UR) (9-2-1) to remain unbeaten. Moha was down in the 6th. I had it 79-72 while the official judges scored it 78-73/78-74/78-73. WW - Spike Kelly (UR) (13-0) survived a battle with veteran Scaldy Bill Quinn (55/62) (15-17-2) to score a MD10 and remain unbeaten. Kelly seemed to be his way to a big win after a fast start and a knockdown in the 5th. But he wore himself out in the 5th and Quinn came on strong. Quinn won the 6th and then dropped Kelly in the 7th. Kelly recovered enough to finish strong. I had it 96-93 while the official judges had it 96-93/96-96/96-94. HW - Peter Jackson (2/2) (38-8-2) UTD7 Billy Kennedy (96/102) (11-3-2) (kennedy at pre should have never made it to 7) MW - Tommy Ryan (14/12) (44-4-1) UD10 Tom Barry (37/44) (Barry at pre ... Ryan should have taken Barry out) BW - Chris Ledoux (15/14) (18-2) UD10 Bill Baxter (42/45) (13-5) (Baxter at pre, Ledoux's EBU title was not on the line) |

Title Fights MW - Stanley Ketchel (CH) (32-8) dominated Billy McCarthy (10/14) (32-16-4) to win the rubber match between the two with a TKO7. McCarthy was never down or cut but was completely overmatched. He gave up over 20 points in 5 of the 6 rounds before the stoppage. I had it 60-54 at the stoppage. It was Ketchel's first defense of the WBC MW title LW - Freddie Welsh (7/7) (21-8-1) was just as dominated in scoring a UD12 over Jack Ward (38/48) (15-3-1) (pre) for his first defense of his CBU LW title. Welsh battered Ward through 12 rounds, swelling up his left eye, cutting his right, and dropping him in the 11th round. I had it 120-107 as did two of the official judges, the third gave Ward a pity round at 119-108. Other fights FLY - Percy Jones (UR) (9-0) dominated Edgar Quinn (UR) (3-6-1) over 8 rounds to win a UD8. There were no knockdowns or cuts. I had it 79-74, the official judges had it 79-73/78-74/79-74. LW - Harry Lyons (6/6) (36-18-1) UD10 Joe Stein (92/95) (14-10-2) LH - Jim Dunn (28/23) (19-8-1) UD10 Alec Greggains (37/48) (14-8-1) MW - Hugo Kelly (76/65) (24-17-1) KO1 Paddy Purtell (77/84) (15-18) |

Title Fight WW - George Cole (CH) (20-10-4) won the last two rounds to narrowly defeat Ted Lewis (8/9) (18-3-1) for his second defense of the WBC WW title. Neither the WBA nor Lewis's CBU titles were on the line. It was a close fight with no knockdowns or cuts. Cole's right eye had some swelling but not enough to effect the fight. Lewis took the 12th and 13th rounds and looked like he might take the title but Cole came back to win the final two. I had it 143-143 as did one of the judges, the other two (champions judges) had it 143-142 and 144-141. Eliminator fight FW - Solly Smith (5/3) (26-17-3) dominated Kid Landfield (6/10) (17-16-3) to win by TKO7 and move on in the IBF title tourney. Landfield was down in the first and had a swollen left eye from the second on. The ref stopped it in the 7th with Kid helpless on the ropes. I had it 59-55 at the stoppage. Other Fights HW - Harry Wills (UR) (9-0) took only :44 to wipe out Ed Burke (UR) (3-3-1) to remain unbeaten. BW - Harry Harris (17/12) (20-2-1) UD10 Hugh McGovern (23/35) (13-8-6) WW - Charley Hitte (2/2) (26-12) SD10 Kid Graves (33/40) (19-8-2) HW - Tommy Dugan (76/62) (17-11) KO8 Jimmy Burns (77/102) (15-6) |

McGovern loses the title again
May 11, 1912
Title Fight BW - Terry McGovern (CH/6FW) (37-9-4) has won the WBA BW title 5 times and now he has lost it 5 times. Johnny Coulon (7/CH) (30-4-2) scored an impressive TKO10 to take the title. McGovern announced after the fight that he will move up to the FW division* after 50 fights in the BW division. McGovern jumped out to a lead only to see Coulon win the 4th through the 7th round. McGovern just seemed to get back in the groove when Coulon dropped him twice in the 10th. The ref stopped it late in the round when McGovern wasn't fighting back. I had 86-86 at the stoppage. Other fights HW - Al Withers (UR) (10-0) won a UD8 over Watt Adams (club) (5-17-3) (pre) to remain unbeaten. Adams became the first fighter to go the distance against Withers. Withers chalked up three knockdowns in the fight. One in the 7th and two in the 8th running his knockdown total to 23 in 10 fights. I had it 77-72 but it was even after 6. The official judges saw it 79-71/77-72/76-73. LW - Young Corbett (21/16) (29-18-4) scored a fairly easy UD10 over Tim Kearns (34/46) (17-10-3). No cuts or knockdowns and Corbett pretty much controlled the fight. I had it 97-94 while the official judges scored it 97-94/98-93/96-95. LH - Jack Dempsey NP (3/3) (42-7) TKO4 SP Stockton (31/35) (22-21-2) (stockton at post) WW - Joe Walcott (11/10) (27-16-7) TKO2 Paddy Sullivan (53/57) (11-7-3) (sullivan at pre) HW - Joe Coburn (13/10) (30-12-5) KO9 Ned Kelly (139/143) (10-14-1) |

I think so .. I can't off the top of my head think of anyone who has had more titles ... the fact that it was the same title each time is amazing too. He has never fought for the WBC or IBF title.

Title Fights Fly - Charley Harvey (CH/6) (17-5-4) was a surprise champion in the Flyweight division and even more of a surprise since he defended the title 3 times. This time the mountain was too big to climb as Sid Smith (10/CH) (18-7-2) scored a UD15 to take the title away. Smith dominated the fight, he was cut under the right eye in the second but it was never a factor. There were no knockdowns but it wasn't close. I had it 147-139 as did two judges, the third had it 146-141. Other Fights LH - Tommy Gibbons (UR) (10-0) dominated Joe Craig (club) (9-16-1) to win a UD8 and remain unbeaten. The win advanced Gibbons to the main division where he will set his sights on Dillon. Gibbons was cut badly under the right eye in the second but his corner did a nice job on it. Craig was down in the 5th and cut in the 6th. I had it 80-71 as did all the judges. LW - Knockout Brown (12/8) (18-0) out from under his protective seal took on Edward McDonald (84/92) (15-7-1) (pre) and remained unbeaten with a TKO7. McDonald was never in the fight and was down in the 7th. He got up took two shots and the ref stopped it. I had it 59-55 at the stoppage LH - Georges Carpentier (5/5) (22-4) KO4 Pat McCourt (44/53) (13-9-3) WW - Young Loughrey (35/16) SD10 Billy Myer (6/17) (33-10-4) (pretty big win but not that huge of an upset) HW - Tom Allen (31/23) (29-14-1) KO4 Arthur Schock (126/130) (12-9-1) |

Well there is the 25-0 Jack Dillon waiting for him down the line. Also Jack Dempsey NP is still prime and active but at 42-7 I'm not sure if he will be around long enough to fight Gibbons.
Same goes for 39-5 Bob Fitzsimmons. |

Fight of the Century candidate and two undefeated fighters losing
May 18, 1912
Title Fight MW - Possibly better than the Ryan-Papke Match from 1909!!! Jeff Clarke (CH) (21-2) rallied to score a TKO12 over Al McCoy (2/4) (16-1) (pre) for his first defense of the IBF MW title. McCoy won 4 of the first 5 rounds but was cut under the left eye in the first. Clarke's right eye started swelling in the 4th. Clarke was dropped in the 6th but got back up and cut McCoy over the right eye before the round ended. Clarke battled back winning the 7th and dropping McCoy in the 8th. Just when it seemed Clarke had things back in control McCoy dropped him in the 9th. Problem was McCoy's right eye had reopened once already. Clarke took the 10th and the 11th and then dropped McCoy early in the 12th. McCoy got up but the cut was reopened and the fight was stopped. I had it 104-102 McCoy at the stoppage. Title Eliminator FW - Johnny Kilbane (5/1) (23-3-1) scored an easy UD12 over Patsy Brannigan (9/12) (16-1-2) (pre) in a boring fight that was booed throughout. No cuts or knockdowns and I had it 118-110, while the official judges had it 117-111/117-112/118-110. Other fights LH - Harry Reeve (UR) (8-0) (pre) scored a TKO6 over Walter Monaghan (UR) (6-2) (pre) to remain unbeaten. It was close the first 4 rounds and then Monaghan tired. Reeve dropped him in the 6 and the ref stopped it soon after that. I had it 48-47 at the stoppage. LW - Sam Robideau (UR) (8-0-1) (pre) scored a SD8 over Jack Grace (club) (9-19) to remain unbeaten. Sam won 4 of the first 5 rounds with one being too close to call, then held on for dear life as Grace won the last 3 rounds. I had it 77-76 for Robideau, all 3 official judges had it 77-76 also. Two for Sam one for Grace. BW - Jimmy Gorman (23/18) (20-2-1) KO6 Young Johnson (60/62) (11-14-1) (gorman at pre) MW - Harris Martin (19/15) (26-17-9) KO10 Joe Thomas (45/53) (18-8-4) *** added the html file for the Clarke fight .. not sure if it will work or not though *** Last edited by mh2365 : 07-30-2007 at 12:29 AM. |

Title fight BW - Jimmy Barry (15/9) (20-4) scored an easy UD12 over Frankie Burns (12/15) (20-5-1) to win the vacant USBA BW title. Barry suffered a cut over his left eye in the second but his corner did a nice job of fixing it and it wasn't a factor the rest of the way. Burns was down in the 9th and really was never in the fight. I had 119-109 as did two judges, the third had it 118-110. Other fights MW - Jeff Smith (UR) (8-0) (pre) pitched a shutout in winning a UD8 over Albert Scanlon (94/95) (8-7-2) (pre) to remain unbeaten. There were no cuts or knockdowns and Smith won every round by a wide margin. I had it 80-72 as did two of the judges, Scanlon's uncle had it 78-72. FW - Al Jansen (UR) (6-0-2) fought to a draw with Jack Roberts (club) (7-20-3) but remains unbeaten. No cuts or knockdowns in this fight as Jansen had to rally to win the 8th round to get the draw. I had it 76-76 as did one judge, the other two split it at 77-75. WW - Dixie Kid (11/11) (27-16-5) scored a MD10 over Willie Schaeffer (14/18) (21-4) for his 4th win of 1912. There were no cuts or knockdowns and a lot of close rounds. It was a tough one to score but I had it 98-95 for Kid. The official judges had it 97-94/96-96/97-95. LH - Leo Houck (9/7) (28-12-2) KO8 Dave Smith (31/40) (13-4) (smith at pre) LW - Jack Blackburn (2/2) (32-13-5) KO1 Whitey Lester (119/120) (9-11) (lester at pre) |

Regional Title Fights LH - Bob McAllister (8/5) (20-3) scored an easy KO11 over Irish Gorgas (UR) (13-1) (pre) for his first defense of the USBA LH title. McAllister dominated the fight then KO'd Gorgas in the 11th. Gorgas was bleeding from a cut over his left eye the entire fight. He suffered the cut in the first. I had it 99-91 at the stoppage. HW - Pearce Henry (4/4) (19-1) scored a TKO10 over tough John Morrissey (18/30) (14-5) (pre) to retain the CBU HW title. It was Henry's 3rd defense of the title. It was a close fight early then Henry started to pull away in the middle rounds. Morrissey's right eye was nearly shut when Henry dropped him in the 11th. Morrissey got to his feet but the ref stopped it seconds later. I had it 87-84 at the stoppage. Other fights WW - Johnny Basham (UR) (14-0) (pre) got a quick stoppage with a TKO5 win over George Milton (64/67) (10-11-1) to remain undefeated. Basham had won 3 of the first 4 rounds then Milton got "Calzaghe'd" in the 5th. Basham was up 19-5 on points when the ref stopped the fight. No cuts, swelling or knockdowns. I had it 39-37 at the stoppage. FW - Tommy O'Toole (26/23) (15-4) UD10 Harry Green (54/66) (11-9-2) (both at pre) HW - Frank Mantell (36/27) (22-8) KO10 Bob Armstrong (61/76) (28-16-5) LW - Mike Leonard (112/76) (15-8-5) UD10 Ad Wolgast (29/77) (19-11) (tough loss for Wolgast) |

Title Fight LW - Young Griffo (CH) (39-8-6) had little to no trouble dispatching Jack Everhardt (12/15) (18-8-3) winning an easy UD15 for his second defense of the IBF LW crown. Griffo's WBC crown was not on the line for this fight. No cuts or knockdowns but Griffo was penalized a point in the 10th. I had it 147-137 as did one judge, the other two judges had it 146-138 and 147-139. Other fights MW - Mike Gibbons (5/3) (20-0) wasted no time in stopping James Payne (61/68) (11-10) (pre) winning by KO2. Gibbons easily won the first round then KO'd Payne in the second. WW - Jimmy Fryer (12/12) (16-0) (pre) scored a UD10 over Otto Sieloff (club) (9-27-2) (post) to remain unbeaten. Sieloff was down in the 4th and the 10th as Fryer had an easy time of it. I had it 99-89 as did two judges, the third saw it 98-90. MW - Mike Donovan (62/41) (28-20-5) SD10 Kid Locke (30/43) (18-7) (locke at pre, moved to prime after the fight) BW - Al Delmont (11/9) (25-11-3) UD10 Paddy Kelly (65/66) (15-10-1) HW - John Dwyer (39/36) (32-12-1) KO6 Ben Taylor (150/152) (12-16-2) |
