Probably but Brown has a shot because McAuliffe will only have a 20% chance of coming into the fight at prime. It will be rolled at the time of the fight.

July 4th, 1912

Title fights

HW - (USBA) John Heenan (3/3) (30-9-1) won another close decision over Frank Moran (13/16) (20-2-1) to retain the USBA HW title for the 4th time. Heenan won by MD12. Heenan vacated the title after the fight due having 40 career fights. Regional titles can't be won after the fighters 30th fight (rule made after Heenan had won it) and once the champ has 40 fights he must vacate it. The belt will be fought for next month.

Heenan suffered a bad cut over the right eye in the 2nd round. The cut was reopened several times but the ref never stopped the fight. Moran jumped out to an early lead but faded down the stretch again with Heenan winning 4 of the last 5 rounds. I had it 115-114, the official judges had it 116-112/115-115/115-113.

LHW - (CBU) Billy McColl (17/11) (19-13-1) scored a KO3 over an inexperienced Posh Price (UR) (9-1) to retain the CBU LHW title for the 3rd time.

Price won the first two rounds and then got dropped in the 3rd. He couldn't make it to his feet. I had 20-18 Price at the stoppage.

Other Fights

MW George Ashe (UR/21) (14-0-1) KO7 Harry Peppers (92/94) (9-10-4) 59-56 (Ashe at pre)

WW - Dick Nelson (41/30) (19-8) UD10 Matt Wells (52/54) (17-3-1) (wells at pre)

Title Fights

LW - (WBO) Jack McAuliffe (CH) (43-7-2) (post) scored an easy UD15 over Kncokout Brown (9/10) (18-1) for his third defense of the WBO LW title.

Brown was cut under the left eye in the first and had his right eye swollen completely shut by the end of the fight as the champ dominated the action throught the night.

I had it 147-140 while the official judges had it148-139/146-140/148-139.

FW - (CBU) Johnny Dundee (9/8) (16-0) (pre) dominated Charles Lampey (43/52) (17-7-2) in route to a UD12 for his second defense of the CBU FW title.

This bout was never in doubt as Dundee won the first 7 rounds. Lampey had a brief rally but Dundee closed out the show. There were no cuts or knockdowns in the fight. I had it 117-111, while the official judges had it 116-113/115-113/116-112.

Other fights

HW Jack Fallon (UR) (9-0-1) KO8 Soldier Delaney (UR) (5-3) 67-66 Fallon at the stoppage (both fighters at pre in this club fight)

LH - Georges Carpentier (6/5) (23-4) KO4 Dan Flynn (48/52) (15-11-5)

Title Fights

LH - (IBF) Charles McCoy (2/CH) (35-10-3) regained the IBF LH title with a UD15 over Frank Girton (CH/4) (15-2). Girton won the title in April with a controversial DQ7.

McCoy dominated the action in this boring fight with no cuts or knockdowns. McCoy was warned 3 times for various illegal actions. I had it 147-138, while the official judges had it 147-138/146-140/148-138.

WW - (USBA) In another boring fight, Kyle Whitney (3/3) (21-6-5) scored a UD12 over Spike Kelly (UR) (13-1) (pre) for his second defense of the USBA WW title.

No knockdowns or cuts in this fight as Whitney dominated the action. I had it 119-110, while the official judges had it 119-111/119-110/117-111.

Other fights

WW - Billy Smith (38/29) (22-6-1) UD10 Sammy Smith (50/52) (13-11-3)

LW - Willie Ritchie (19/17) (20-4-4) TKO6 Jimmy Carroll (43/57) (25-17-5) (fight stopped due to injury)

HW - Peter Jackson (2/2) (39-8-2) KO9 Dutch Zimmer (132/136) (15-7) (Jackson continues his trend of either fighting for the title or fighting a bum)

WW - Dixie Kid (11/12) (27-16-6) MD10 Andy Watson (52/50)(15-8-4) 99-92 Kid (Kid absolutely robbed in this fight)

Title Fights

MW - (WBC) Stanley Ketchel (CH) (33-8) caught George Chip (12/19) (17-2-1) (pre) in a corner in the 5th round and pummeled him until the ref stepped in. It was Ketchel's 2nd defense of the WBC MW Title.

Chip was doing okay up until that point as I had the fight 38-37.

LW - (CBU) Freddie Welsh (8/6) (22-8-1) was perfect in my book scoring a UD12 over George Keys (33/41) (17-1-2) for his 2nd defense of the CBU LW title. Pretty boring fight as Keys didn't win a round and there were no cuts or knockdowns.

I had it 120-108, as did one official judge. The other two judges had it 119-109 after giving Keys a pity round.

Other Fights

HW - Tommy Burns (48/35) (27-10-3) KO3 Jack O'Brien (13/24) (30-8-2) 19-19 (Burns gets screwed in the rankings as this should have put him back in the top 20)

LH - Bob Fitzsimmons (23/20) (40-5) TKO4 Andy McFadden (65/club) (7-12-1) (mcfadden at pre)

MW - Johnny Reagan (30/25) (19-2-1) UD10 Martin Mulverhill (65/71) (12-11-2)

LW - Young Erne (79/77) (20-10) MD10 Dave Wallace (117/118) (13-15) (Erne continues to disappoint)

Title Fight

MW - (IBF) Mike Gibbons (3/CH) (21-0) scored a UD15 over Jeff Clarke (CH/3) (21-3) to win the IBF MW title.

There were no cuts or knockdowns and the crowd booed throughout but Gibbons used his superior boxing skills to win the fight easily.

I had it 145-142, while the official judges saw it 145-141/144-142/146-140.

Title Tourney

FW (IBF Eliminator) Solly Smith (4/1) (27-17-3) finally defeated Jem Driscoll (3/4) (44-8-1) in his third try to move onto the finals of the IBF tourney.

Smith used two knockdowns to win a UD12. The fight was close after six despite Driscoll going down in the third, but Smith won the 7th and dropped Driscoll again in the 8th. Driscoll won the 10th and 11th to close the gap but Smith finished strong in the 12th.

I had it 115-112, the official judges had it 116-110/115-112/114-113.

Other Fights

MW - Jim Griffin (48/40) (18-8-1) KO7 Jack Burke (53/67) (26-18-6)

I'm going to say that most of Wilde's fights are going to go like that.

Title Fights

HW - (WBO) Jack Johnson (CH) (45-3) scored a UD15 over rival Joe Jeannette (10/12) (26-5) to retain the WBO HW title for the 4th time.

Johnson lead throughout the bout and dropped Jeannette in the 13th. I had it 145-139, the official judges saw it 146-140/145-139/146-138. Johnson is now 2-1 against Jeannette.

WW - (CBU) Ted Lewis (9/8) (19-3-1) expected an easy bout against newcomer Johnny Basham (UR/29) (14-1) (pre) but struggled in winning a MD12 for his 4th defense of his CBU WW title.

Lewis seemed in control winning 4 of the first 5 rounds but then was dropped in the 6th. The fight was close the rest of the way. I had it 116-113, while the official judges saw it 114-113/113-113/114-113.

Title Fights

BW - (WBA) Johnny Coulon (CH) (32-4-2) scored a TKO7 over Monte Attell (2/4) (23-7-1) for his second defense of the WBA BW title. Coulon will take at least the next month off as he has fought in each of the last three months.

Coulon opened a cut over Attell's right eye in the second. It was opened twice more and with Attell way behind on the scorecards the fight was stopped. I had it 59-55 at the stoppage.

HW - (AABU) Bill McKinnon (94/53) (17-8) pulls a huge shocker stopping George Christian (UR/54) (14-1) (pre) in the 8th round to win the AABU HW title. Christian was a 17-2 favorite.

Christian was out on the ropes when the ref stepped in. He didn't protest it right away but eventually did from his corner. McKinnon caught Christian with a good shot midway through the round and then poured on the punches.

I had it 68-65 for Christian at the stoppage. No mandatory rematch will be ordered.

Title Fights

FW - (WBC) Cal McCarthy (CH) (24-6) avenged an earlier loss with a UD15 over Will Curley (7/10) (23-11-3) for his first defense of the WBC FW title.

A very close fight with no cuts or knockdowns. Curley took a lead in the middle rounds but McCarthy finished strong.

FLY - (USBA) Grover Hayes (2/2) (19-1-1) avenged his only loss with a TKO6 over Joe McGrath (3/4) (18-4-3) to win back the USBA Fly title.
