Jackson wastes no time in mismatch

January 10, 1908

Young Peter Jackson (15-3) scored a KO1 over mismatched but #7 Dick Burge (12-16-3) for his 4th defense of his LBC Welterweight belt.

The LBC defended the match saying that Burge met the qualifications and was the mandatory fighter. They will look into wether or not to allow fighters on the downside of their career in the title match again even if they meet the qualifications.

On the undercard

WW - Terry Martin (9-0) UD10 Mike Sullivan (10-13-4)
HW - Jem Mace (12-8-2) TKO10 William Miller (11-13-3)
FW - Kid Landfield (4-12) UD8 Eugene Hornbacher (6-1) (Hornbacher fought at pp for this club fight)
FW - Jack Roberts (5-5) UD8 Tommy Connelly (5-2) (both fighters at pp for this club fight)
HW - Bill Curran (6-1) TKO3 Joe Goddard (11-14) (Curran fought at pp for this club fight)

Dwyer was competitive in the early going winning the first 3 rounds, but then it was all McCaffrey from then on. Dominic didn't lose a round after the 7th. Neither fighter was down, Dwyer was cut over the left eye in the 3rd.

Dwyer is now 0-3 in title matches.

Both Dan Cuoco, ringside, and I had it 147-139. The official judges had it 148-139/147-140/146-139.

On the undercard

HW - Tommy Dugan (9-1) UD10 Morris Grant (11-14-5)
HW - John Heenan (18-6-1) KO9 Tom Allen (16-10)
MW - Sailor Burke (7-0) KO3 Johnny McGlade (10-17-3) (Burke fought at pp for this club fight)
LW - Young Otto (6-13-2) UD8 Irish Jack Smith (5-1) (Smith fought at pp for this club fight)
LW - Jimmy Mitchell (12-19-1) TKO4 Austin Gibbons (14-16-2) (Gibbons blew a big opportunity to go back to main and prime in this club fight)
Any shot of Heenan getting a crack at McCaffrey? Dominic just seems to get the job done, I always expect him to lose to the big names in my universe but he just surprises me time and again, as in his latest outing, an upset of James Corbett.

Heenan is ranked 6th so there is a chance, title shots in my universe are somewhat random. They both have to be scheduled to fight and in Heenan's case none of the 5 guys in front of him can be schedules.

Heenan is 0-1 in title shots, like most he lost to Johnson. McCaffrey does the same in my universe, seems to just do enough to win. His biggest win was over John Sullivan.

Herrera breaks through wins title on his 4th try

January 31, 1908

#1 Aurelio Herrera (12-5) will finally bring the FW title home to Mexico as he knocked down Champ Solly Smith 6 times in route to a TKO12 to win the LBC title.

Herrera wasted no time in dominating this fight, knocking Smith down twice in the first. Smith battled back gamely winning the 2nd and 3rd round. Herrera then took control winning the 4th and knocking Smith down again in the 5th.

Herrera won the 6th, 7th, 9th and 10th. Then he put Smith down twice again in the 11th. Herrera put Smith down early in the 12th and then had him on the ropes when the ref stopped the fight.

The crowd (pro-Herrera) gave Smith a loud ovation after the fight for the heart he showed.

Herrera finally got the chance to fight a guy who would stand in front of him and fight him and took full advantage of it.

On the undercard

WW - Tommy West (10-1-1) KO4 Kyle Whitney (10-2-1)
MW - Billy Papke (11-0) UD10 Harris Martin (16-13-4)
FLY - Johnny Hughes (6-1) MD8 Sid Smith (5-2) (both fighters fought at pp in this club fight)
FW - Ole Oleson (5-8-2) UD8 George Moore (5-2) (Moore fought at pp for this club fight)
HW - Steve Taylor (11-16) UD10 Tompkin Gilbert (4-21-3)

I've paid my dues, time after time
I've done my sentence, but committed no crime
And bad mistakes, I've made a few
I've had my share of sand, kicked in my face
But I've come through

And I need to go on and on and on and on
We are the champions, my friend
And we'll keep on fighting till the end
We are the champions, We are the champions
No time for losers 'cos we are the champions of the world

I've taken my bows, and my curtain calls
You've bought me fame and fortune
And everything that goes with it... I thank you all
But it's been no bed of roses, no pleasure cruise
I consider it a challenge before the whole human race
And I ain't gonna lose

And I need to go on and on and on and on
We are the champions, my friend
And we'll keep on fighting till the end
We are the champions, We are the champions
No time for losers 'cos we are the champions of the world

We are the champions, my friend
And we'll keep on fighting till the end
We are the champions, We are the champions
No time for losers, 'cos we are the champions

MEXICO!!! MEXICO!! MEXICO!!!!!

AURELIO!! AURELIO!!

THE PEOPLE OF MEXICO WANT TO THANKS AURELIO FOR BRING THE GOLD TO THE COUNTRY

When a fighter is set to "retired" there are two fields; "Default stage to use" and Career stage"

Which one are we supposed to change as a career advances?

Career Stage should be set to Prime if your fighters are retired.

The Default to Use is the setting that will be used by default when the fighter has a bout, this needs to be set to whatever stage the fighter is at in your universe.

Johnson defends for record 17th time

February 6, 1908

Jack Johnson (29-1) scored a TKO11 over #7 Tommy Burns (15-6-1) for his 17th defense of the LBA Heavyweight title.

This fight was never close, although Burns never went down. Burns started carrying his hands low after the first round and Johnson just took target practice from then on.

Johnson did suffer a cut over his right eye in the 5th and a bloody nose in the 8th.

I had it 99-91 at the time of the stoppage. Darryl Woodford, ringside, had it 99-92.

There is talk of a unification bout, but no other champ qualifies. Under the rules two champs have to have 5 title defenses.

On the undercard

LW - Patsy Sweeney (9-8-2) UD10 Jem Carney (17-13) (pretty nice upset for Sweeney)
BW - Kid Murphy (11-0) UD10 Casper Leon (12-13-4)
HW - Frank Mantell (7-0) UD8 Joe Hess (1-23) (Mantell fought at pp for this club fight)
FW - Johnny Kilbane (8-0) UD8 Jack Roberts (5-6) (Kilbane fought at pp for this club fight, moves to the main division with the win)
HW - Herbert Slade (11-15-2) TKO6 Martin Neary (7-15) (club fight)

Febraury 23, 1908

#2 Jack Britton (13-2-1) put on a clinic on his way to a UD15 over champ Charley Hitte (11-7) to win the LBA Welterweight title.

I had the fight 148-138. Christopher Almodovar had it 147-138. The official judges had it 147-139/148-139/147-138.

On the undercard

LH - rough Thompson (6-0) KO4 Sailor Brown (6-1) (both fighters fought at pp in this club fight)

March Title fights

Another slow title month with only two bouts scheduled. Although both should be good ones as both are rematches of recent title fights.

HW - (LBF) Peter Jackson (26-5) vs. John Sullivan (25-6) (Jackson 2-0 against Sullivan including a TKO13 last October)

WW - (LBC) Young Peter Jackson (15-3) vs Joe Gans (24-2-2) (Gans hopes to rebound from an embarrassing TKO6 last September)

Also Jack McAuliffe (25-4-2) faces Dixie Kid (14-11-5) in a non-title bout
