The beginners went 51-9-4 against the TC's. Once again slow month for fighters moving up due to the new aging routine. A couple hit their max # for fights though so they move up.

September 20, 1909

Frankie Neil (7/ch) (19-17-3) scored a decisive UD15 over Al Delmont (ch/1) (17-8-2) to win the WBA Bantamweight title.

Neil becomes the first fighter to claw his way back from the club division to win a title. He has been to the club ranks not once but twice. He first dropped to club in Sept of 1901 with a record of 1-6-1. But then had a stretch between 1903 and 1905 where he went 8-1-1 to even his record at 10-10-2 and move back into the main division.

He secured a title shot against Billy Plimmer and lost a UD15. He lost 5 in a row to drop to 10-15-2 and back into the club division. In June of 1908 he was 13-17-2, but since that date he is 6-0-1.

He dominated Delmont (rated 10 to Neil's 6) from the opening bell. He caused Delmont's eye to swell in the 4th and had a stretch where he outpointed Delmont for 7 straight rounds.

Delmont came in at top condition but could never get any kind of spurt going.

I had it 147-141. Marcus Heinsohn, ringside, had it 147-140. The official judges had it 146-138/147-139/144-140.

September 26, 1909

Frank Klaus (10/ch) (15-6-1) scored a TKO11 over Jack Dempsey NP (ch/9) (32-5) to win the WBA Middleweight title.

Dempsey dominated this fight winning 6 out of the first 7 rounds. Klaus started to land in the 8th and continued landing easily in the 9th and 10th. Klaus opened an nasty gash over the right eye of Dempsey in the 10th.

Dempsey started carrying his hands low and couldn't protect the eye. The cut was re-opened and then worsened in the 11th and the ring doctor called it off.

I had it 97-93 Dempsey at the time. Javier Flores, ringside expert, had it 98-93 Dempsey.
