End of February 1910

Well an exciting month wasn't really expected with only two title fights. But then both titles changed hands, including our first Unified Champ to lose the title.

Jack Johnson took away the IBF title from Peter Jackson. Jimmy Briggs stunned the LBA by taking away the WBA and WBC titles from Jem Driscoll.

Several fighters moved and several debuted in the rankings this month. I am only going to list their intial WBA rankings now since that is the one I use the most.

Moving divisions (all club to main)

HW - Pat Kieley (18-18-1)

LH - Mike Boden (10-1-2), Joe Craig (5-9-1)

MW - Johnny Douglas (10-0-2), Dave Kurtz (6-6-3)

WW - Tom McAlpine (10-3)

LW - James Curran (10-5)

FW - Johnny Crowe (10-3-1), Eddie Pierce (9-5-1), Yankee Schwartz (10-1-1), Joe Tipman (8-6-1), Jimmy Hill (10-2-1)

BW - Dave Ross (9-5-1), George Church (10-0-1)

Debut Rankings

HW - Billy Tate (8-6-1) (51)
HW - Jim Williams (10-5) (45)
HW - Jim McCormick (13-2) (19)
LH - Billy Stift (11-4) (14)
LH - Joe Craig (5-9-1) (6) (odd ranking due to the new ranking system starting all unranked fighters at a certain #, he then won one fight so his pp # is inflated plus there isn't alot of talent at LH. Easy tradeoff considering how good the new ranking system is, he'll drop quickly with a loss)
MW - Kid Broad (11-4) (25)
MW - Jack Fogarty (10-4-1) (24)
MW - George Gunther (11-4) (28)
MW - Dave Kurtz (6-6-1) (18) (once again these 4 were unranked and then fought once under the new system to get ranked, Kurtz won his fight the other 3 lost)
WW - Bartley Connolly (10-3-2) (14)
WW - Matty Baldwin (10-4-1) (16)
WW - Jimmy Mitchell (8-7) (17)
LW - James Curran (10-5) (22)
LW - George Siddons (8-7) (27)
FW - Fred Delaney (7-7-1) (52)
FW - David Morgan (8-6-1) (35)
FW - Eddie Pierce (9-5-1) (12)
FW - Joe Tipman (8-6-1) (33)
FW - Johnny Griffin (12-2-1) (19)
FW - Fred Johnson (12-2-1) (15)
FW - Jerry Barnett (10-5) (13)
FW - Frank Zimpher (9-6) (30)
BW - Dave Ross (9-5-1) (14)

Monthly fights attached

How is the "aging" system working for you at this point in time (If you are even using it yet in your Uni)

Thanks

It is working just fine .... Much easier to use then trying to do it for 800 some odd fighters by hand. Hopefully, everyone will find out real soon about it.

IBF Lightweight tournament

The lightweight division now has enough fighters ranked and in the main division to allow the IBF to sponsor a new belt. This will be the second weight group that the IBF has entered. An eight man tournament will crown the champ. The first round matchups are as follows, all first round bouts will take place in March.

1. Jack Everhardt (14-4-2) vs 8. Abe Attell (33-9-1)
2. Eddie Hanlon (12-4-1) vs 7. Harry Lyons (29-14-1)
3. George Lavigne (27-12-1) vs Arthur Chambers (15-2-1)
4. Jack Blackburn (24-11-4) vs. Freddie Welsh (15-3-1)

Unfortunately Aurelio Herrera (a fan favorite) came in ranked 10th and failed to qualify for this tournament.

Hanlon beat Aurelio back in January of 1909 by UD10, but Herrera has won 5 straight since. He was 10th. I wanted to force him into the tourney but I've been fair to all since the inception and would feel guilty .... so he'll have to wait. He still hasn't had a shot at the LW title, but the losers of the tourney will probably drop and he should get up higher in the rankings if he keeps winning.

March 1910 Title Fights

Very good month here in the LBA. Not only are there 5 solid title fights but also 8 bouts in title tournaments (so we may see 13 fight cards).

MW - WBA Frank Klaus (16-6-1) vs. Stanley Ketchel (3) (25-5) (first meeting)

MW - WBC Charles McCoy (25-8-3) Vs. Eddie McGoorty (4) (16-2) (first meeting, McGoorty at pre)

WW - UT George Cole (WBA) (11-7-4) vs. Joe Gans (WBC) (29-4-3) (cole won a MD15 in August of 1909)

LW - UT Jack McAuliffe (33-5-2) vs Frank Erne (9) (17-5-2) (first meeting, McAuliffe avoids being stripped of the WBC title)

BW - WBA George Dixon (29-7-1) vs Al Delmont (2) (18-8-2) (Delmont won by TKO2 in April of 1905)

Not an easy fight for any defending champion this month. I can see titles changing hands in each and every fight.

96 out of the 262 club fighters are in action this month with 52 of those fighting TC's. They managed to go 45-6-1 against them. On to the fight cards.

Are Dixon and Delmont both at prime or has one moved to post?

Both are still at prime. The way I have the aging set up now prime is 20 to 35 fights. So if a beginner starts today their prime would be anywhere between fight 15-60. One of the problems (not a bug) with the new aging system is that you can't retroactive it so when you start the new aging it picks a random # for each fighter, so like with Dixon he had 35 fights at the time so his random # is between 20 and 35 so he will turn post-prime sometime between his 55-70th fight. I may institute a random Post-prime chance for KO's or losing streaks, I haven't decided yet.

Also I think when a fighter moves to end I am going to look at their previous 10 fights and if they have lost 3 or less, then reset them at post-prime. That will give some fighters a chance to go over 100 fights.

I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization. Also I will list my scorecard on the fights I watch in bold.

March 1, 1910

LH - George Byers (5/5) (13-7-1) UD10 Jim Dunn (12/16) (10-6-1) 99-91 (Dunn at pre for this WBC title elimination bout)

MW - Jim Griffin (36/36) (11-7) KO10 Joe Costa (35/37) (10-6-5)

WW - Tommy West (5/4) (16-5-2) TKO5 Dal Hawkins (10/15) (13-12-1)

LW - Patsy Sweeney (22/20) (12-11-2) KO9 James Curran (23/30) (10-6) (curran at pre)

**** I wanted all the title elimination bouts as main event fights, so to accomodate that I will have two 4 fight cards, and the usual eleven 6 fight card
