Great stuff as always Mike. That was a hell of a jump in the rankings by McVey, great win for him.

McAuliffe regains title
I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization. Also I will list my scorecard on the fights I watch in bold.
August 8, 1910 Jack McAuliffe (2/CH) (35-6-2) scored a UD15 over a game Freddie Welsh (8/8) (17-5-1) to win the WBC Lightweight title that was vacated with Herrera's win over Erne last month. McAuliffe had KO'd Welsh in a previous meeting and it looked like it was going that way again when McAuliffe dropped Welsh in the 4th. This time Welsh got up and fought back. He managed to win a few late rounds despite the KD, a swollen left eye and a cut over his right eye. I had it 145-140. George Thorn ringside had it 146-139. The official judges had it 145-140/146-139/145-140. On the undercard FW - Tommy White (19/14) (13-7-3) TKO9 Jack Skelly (18/21) (12-3-1) 78-74 (skelly at pre) HW - Dominic McCaffrey (3/3) (30-10-3) SD10 Frank Childs (30/33) (21-16-6) 98-94 MW - Jack Burke (37/31) (22-15-6) UD10 Sailor Burke (33/38) (13-5-1) (s. burke at pre) FW - Kid Landfield (8/5) (13-12-2) UD10 Marty McCue (12/13) (15-15-1) (both of these guys are ranked a little high due to winning streaks before the rating change) WW - Jimmy Conley (UR) (10-3) SD8 Billy West (UR) (5-4-3) (both at pre for this club fight ... conley moves up to main with the win) |

Coulon wins defense
I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization. Also I will list my scorecard on the fights I watch in bold.
August 12, 1910 Johnny Coulon (CH) (24-3-2) scored a UD15 over Harry Ware (13/20) (12-13-2) to retain the WBC Bantamweight title. Ware kept the fight close for the first 10 rounds before tiring and losing all five of the championship rounds. Ware had some swelling with his right eye which started in the 9th, otherwise there were no knockdowns or cuts. At the end of 10 I had it 96-94. My final score card was 146-139. Steve McCarthy ringside had it 145-140. The official judges agreed with us, two scored with Steve and the other with me. On the undercard HW - Frank Slavin (12/9) (26-14-1) KO9 Denver Ed Smith (36/52) (20-20-2) (smith at post) HW - John Dwyer (41/36) (25-11-1) KO5 J. Barrington (24/30) (6-9-1) (barrington at pre ... rankings screw Dwyer) WW - Dixie Kid (16/11) (20-15-5) SD10 Jewey Cooke (46/50) (12-9-3) 96-95 cooke (ringside expert also had it for Cooke .... Cooke stepped up to WW for this screwing) HW - Gunboat Smith (UR) (10-0) UD8 Victor Mclaglen (UR) (7-5) 78-75 (both at pre for this club fight ... Smith moves up to main with the win) LW - Jem Smith (UR) (10-1-2) UD8 Young Otto (club) (11-19-4) (smith at pre, otto at post for this club fight ... smith moves to main with the win) |

Herrera is the WBA champ and now McAuliffe is the WBC champ. That would be a war if those two meet. |

Corbett hands Johnson his 3rd loss
I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization. Also I will list my scorecard on the fights I watch in bold.
August 14, 1910 James Corbett (4/CH) (31-8-3) finally broke through and took the IBF Heavyweight title via a controversial SD15 over champ Jack Johnson (CH/2) (37-3) It was a pretty close fight throughout and many at ringside felt the champ had done enough to keep his title. There was no cuts, knockdowns or even swelling. Johnson landed more punches but Corbett was more accurate. I had it 145-143 Johnson. Jim Trunzo, ringside, had it 146-141 Johnson. The official judges had it 143-146/145-143/145-144. The LBA has decided against a mandatory rematch as they ruled the fight was close enough to go either way. On the undercard MW - Billy Baker (12/12) (20-17-5) DRAW10 Joe Thomas (29/27) (14-5-4) BW - Hugh McGovern (41/32) (8-6-5) UD10 Biz Mackey (18/33) (11-5-1) 98-93 (mackey at pre) LW - Paul Koehler (UR) (9-2-2) DRAW10 Johnny Frayne (57/57) (8-10-1) (both at pre) HW - Charley Richardson (UR) (10-0-3) UD8 Fred Crossley (club) (13-21-2) 78-72 (richardson at pre, crossley at post for this club fight ... richardson moves to main division) LW - Dan Custy (UR) (9-1-2) UD8 Joe Cain (club) (2-16-3) (custy at pre for this club fight) |

Wow, Corbett finally takes it, I guess you could consider it an upset considering Johnson's dominance. Is Corbett close to the twilight of his career yet or does he have a few good years still?

Corbett surprised me, but I have to hold my hands up and say I thought Johnson would take it [see previous post]. Excellent stuff Mike. I love this uni.

Like the three above I'm quite suprised that Corbett managed to take the belt off of Johnson but I'm still takin Johnson in the rematch. At least Corbett got ahold of the belt even if it'll probably be only for a short while.

Corbett and Johnson have had two 15 round split decisions in my uni. Both have taken one. I'm sure they will meet again. Corbett was prime when the aging changed so he still has a long career ahead of him. But he is in the random retirement range now.

McAllister handles a crafty veteran
I am going to list the before and after rankings now on the fight cards listed as (before/after) all rankings will be the WBA rankings unless it's a title fight for another organization. Also I will list my scorecard on the fights I watch in bold.
August 16, 1910 Bob McAllister (UR) (13-1) is now one fight away from being ranked as he scored another victory with a UD10 over Al Kaufmann (18/21) (12-13-1). Fairly boring fight with no KD's, cut or swelling. Kaufmann hung around the first half of the fight and then McAllister finished strong to take the decision. I had it 98-93. Andreas Raht, ringside expert, had it 96-95. The official judges had it 96-95/97-94/98-93. On the undercard WW - Tom McAlpine (UR/13) (12-3) TKO9 Fighting Kennedy (39/42) (9-7-1) (both at pre) HW - Jem Mace (82/77) (18-12-2) KO3 Al Kubiak (56/73) (10-7) LW - Herb McCoy (UR) (11-0) UD10 Arthur Cote (44/49) (11-7-1) 97-92 (both at pre) MW - George Brown (UR) (9-0) KO3 Herb Goddard (UR) (3-3-3) 20-18 (both at pre for this club fight) FW - Billy Whistler (club) (11-15-5) MD8 Patsy Kline (UR) (7-4-2) (kline at pre for this club fight) |
