No problem on the wait and man I argee Herrera's loss sucks it did kind of suck the wind out of my day when you orignally posted that he lost. The good news with Arguello is that he's alot better then Herrera right so hopefully you shouldn't have to deal with to many loses from him.

Although Marvin Johnson, my other favorite from back in the day, will let me down often. But hell I'm still a long ways away from those guys.

I also got "The Movies" for my birthday and I've been playing that some, been playing poker some too. But I was surprised how much Herrera's loss bothered me. I actually put the game down for a couple of days. But I'm over it now.

Being at work from 8-5 is different also, so I've got to get that schedule figured out

McCoy barely retains title

September 20, 1910

Charles McCoy (CH) (29-8-3) needed a knockdown in the 14th round to squeak out a SD15 over challenger Stanley Ketchel (4/4) (26-7) for his 4th defense of the WBC Middleweight title.

McCoy took 5 out of the first 8 rounds then held on as Ketchel didn't lose another round until the 14th. Many at ringside thought Ketchel won the 15th. McCoy's left eye started swelling in the 11th.

I had it 143-143. Lee Macrae, ringside, had it 143-141 McCoy. The official judges had it 141-143/143-141/142-141.

On the undercard

BW - Dennis McFadden (46/41) (13-13-2) UD10 Nunc Wallace (33/44) (12-6-1) (wallace at pre)

MW - Frank Craig (15/10) (28-13-2) UD10 Ned McCann (UR/23) (10-4-1) (mccann at pre)

LW - Harry Lyons (7/6) (31-15-1) KO10 Young Donahue (45/51) (11-6-3) 88-83 (donahue at pre)

LW - Art Simms (UR) (9-0) UD8 Jack Grace (club) (7-13) 78-75 (both at pre in this club fight)

BW - Johnny Reagan (club) (6-19-1) SD10 Austin Rice (7-24-4) (rice at post in this club fight)

September 24, 1910

FLY - Jack Foy (6/6) (9-6-3) UD12 Joe McGrath (2/2) (12-3-2) 117-114 (title eliminator, both fighters at pre ... evidently the WBA didn't think to much of Foy's easy UD)

LH - Fred Russell (8/5) (15-7) KO7 John Miller (15/19) (9-6-2) (miller at pre)

WW - Matty Baldwin (27/14) (12-4-1) TKO7 Austin Gibbons (19/31) (22-20-4) 60-53 Gibbons (baldwin at pre, gibbons stepped up to WW for this match .... gibbons in complete control of the fight with baldwin down once and cut, then Baldwin caught Gibbons with a good shot and staggered him and then pounded him on the ropes until the ref stopped it)

Greggains wins first defense

September 26, 1910

Alec Greggains (CH) (13-3-1) wore down challenger John Wille (14/15) (15-6) and scored a KO10 for his first defense of his WBA LH crown.

It was an even fight through the first six rounds and then Wille started to run out of steam. By the end of the 7th he was gassed.

Greggains dropped Wille for a 9 count in the 8th and Wille hung on despite bad swelling of his left eye. Wille gave it one last go in the 9th, winning the round but unable to do any real damage.

Greggains dropped the exhausted challenger for good in the 10th.

I had it 86-84 Greggains at the stoppage.

On the undercard

FW - Martin Flaherty (65/43) (11-11-3) KO8 Jimmy Gorman (22/39) (14-2) 67-66 Flaherty (gorman at pre was knocked down 5 times in the 8th round .... gorman's two losses were huge upsets Flaherty and Paddy Kelly)

HW - Bill Lang (9/6) (20-6) TKO2 Jim Savage (UR) (11-2) (savage at pre)

MW - Billy McCarthy (12/10) (27-13-3) UD10 Arthur Cripps (53/53) (11-12)

LW - Jack Lynch (UR) (12-2) KO10 Irish Jack Smith (66/69) (9-9) (both at pre)

HW - Jimmy Burns (UR) (9-2) UD8 Jack Ashton (UR) (7-2-1) (both at pre in this club fight)

Boring fight with no outcome

September 28, 1910

Abe Attell (3/3) (35-9-3) fought a snoozer with Jack Blackburn (2/2) (26-11-5) which ended in a DRAW15 for the new IBF Lightweight title. Unfortunately they will have to do it again in December.

No cuts, knockdowns, swelling or even 20 point rounds. Alot of booing by the crowd though.

I had it 144-143 Blackburn. Rob Morris, ringside, had it 144-142 Blackburn. the official judges had it 145-142 Attell/144-142 Blackburn/143-143.

On the undercard

BW - Charley Harvey (5/2) (10-3-4) SD10 Thomas Palmer (47/47) (17-21-3) (harvey at pre, palmer at post ... harvey stepped up to BW for the win)

MW - William Sullivan (44/44) (10-7-2) UD10 Bill Fleming (UR) (10-4) (fleming at pre ..... Sullivan scored 308 points for this win and didn't move up at all which shows the gap between him and the next place fighter)

HW - Mike Conley (33/21) (14-4) UD10 Jack McCormick (14/22) (both at pre)

FW - Gil Goulette (club) (10-18-1) UD8 Frankie Ellis (UR) (5-2) (ellis at pre for this club fight)

LW - Harry Scroggs (UR) (6-1-1) MD8 Young Kenny (UR) (8-6) 77-75 Scroggs (both at pre for this club fight)

McAlister will debut in the rankings at the end of the month

Bob McAlister ran his record to 14-1 with a KO7 over Cornelius Ivuti (TC) (1-10) for his 15th fight which allows him to be ranked. His ranking will be posted at the end of October but I believe he will be in the top 10.

That's great Mike. I hope he doesn't get pushed into a title fight too soon though.

IBF Middleweight tourney

Kicks off this month here are the matchups

1. Billy Papke (19-3) vs. Frank Glover (18-18) OCT (glover at post)
4. Jack Dempsey (36-5) vs Paddy Levin (14-2-3) OCT (levin at pre)
3. Dan Creedon (26-13-1) vs. Jimmy Handler (11-11-3) OCT
2. Stanley Ketchel (26-7) vs. Billy McCarthy (27-13-3) NOV

Ketchel got the hardest first round draw but I see Ketchel vs Dempsey in the title match. Dempsey still hasn't lost a non-title fight.

For those Tommy Ryan fans .... somehow he wasn't ranked in the top 8 IBF at 39-2-1. But have no fear he gets a title shot this month.

No movement so far from the main division.
