Wow - Peter Maher sure took it on the, um, chin. He's better than probably 3/5 of the current crop of heavyweights in my Uni. It will be a long time before he drops below .500.

He was one of my originals so he didn't get the luxory of padding his record early in his career ... now he is also post-prime and has dropped 8 out of his last 9.

O'Brien barely retains title

November 4th, 1910

Jack O'Brien (WBC) (26-5-2) retained his title with a DRAW15 over Joe Butler (2/2) (33-8-3). This marked his first defense of the WBC title. Butler had beaten O'Brien back in January to take his WBA title.

O'Brien dropped Butler in the first and then held on as Butler seemed to win the final five rounds. It was slow going after the first as it was a defensive boxing match.

O'Brien built a substansial lead early in the fight, but the tide seemed to turn when he was cut over the right eye in the 8th. He won the 9th and 10th but seemed to be running out of gas. I had Butler winning the 4 of the last 5 with one round even.

I scored it 143-142 for Butler. Aurelio Barrios, ringside expert, had it 143-142 O'Brien. The official judges had it 144-142/143-143/142-144.

On the undercard

WW - Mike Glover (9/9) (16-0-2) UD10 Jimmy Mitchell (27/32) (10-9) 100-90 (both at pre, shutout on all 3 cards)

HW - Dominic McCaffrey (5/5) (31-10-3) KO9 Charles Hadley (90/91) (18-19-3) (hadley at post, drops to end)

HW - Billy McColl (44/42) (12-13) TKO9 Billy Wilson (88/89) (16-20-1) 78-72 (wilson at post, mccoll stepped up to HW for this fight)

LH - Salinas Jack Burns (UR) (7-1-1) UD8 Morris Heffey (club) (10-25-2) (burns at pre, heffey at end for this club fight)

MW - Paddy Purtell (club) (13-15) TKO8 Billy Devine (club) (6-21-4) (devine stepped up to MW in a weight adjusted club fight)

Harvey's had a semi-successful career thus far in the UoLBA. It will be interesting to see what he can do in the LBA. I'm guessing, based on the competition in your uni, that he will be lucky to be .500. Long term, that's probably where he'll end up with me, but he's started out strong.

Well considering he has lost 7 out of his last 8, only won against a TC, hasn't beaten anyone of note ... I don't think he is going to fair too well. He is currently ranked last and has -557 pp.

Chambers wins thriller

November 10, 1910

Arthur Chambers (CH) (18-3-1) got off the canvas to stop Jack Everhardt (5/7) (15-6-3) in the 12th round. It was Chambers first defense of the WBA Lightweight title he won in September.

A very close bout through 9 rounds with neither fighter taking a lead. Halfway through the 10th Everhardt dropped the champ who struggled to his feet at the 8 count and managed to hold on the rest of the round.

Chambers struggled in round 11 also getting hit with hugh bombs which caused his right eye to swell. Everhardt got cocky though and was dropped with a brutal uppercut seconds into round 12. He managed to get to his feet but was dazed and dropped again. He got to his feet and tried to hold on but Chamber sensing victory threw everything he had at Everhardt and dropped him a third time. Amazing everyone Everhardt go up one last time. He was then hit 5 times in a row and the ref stopped the bout.

I had it 115-113 Everhardt at the stoppage.

On the undercard

LW - Horace Leeds (28/22) (14-2) MD10 Johnny Frayne (66/70) (9-11-1) (both at pre)

HW - George Stirling (65/59) (12-3-1) UD10 Arthur Shock (36/53) (11-4-1) (both at pre ... stirling gets screwed in the rankings)

WW - Eddie Carroll (UR/34) (11-4) UD10 Cy Flynn (48/48) (9-10) (both at pre, Carroll stepped up to WW for this bout)

WW - Blink McCloskey (UR) (8-1) MD8 Perry Queenan (UR) (6-3-2) 78-74 (both at pre for this club fight)

BW - Charley Kelly (club) (10-11-1) TKO5 Kid Bebee (club) (4-15-1) (club fight)
