March 13, 1911

Jack Blackburn (CH) (28-11-5) scored a late knockdown to win a SD15 over Frank Erne (4/6) (21-7-2) for his first defense of the IBF Lightweight title.

Blackburn came out fast controlling the first third of the fight. Erne slowly started to turn the tide in the middle rounds and Blackburn seemed to tire. The left eye of both fighters was swelling by the end of the 10th. Erne won the 9th-11th and seemed in control of the fight.

In the 12th, Blackburn caught him with a stiff shot and dropped him for an 8 count. Erne was hurt but held on to get out of the round. Blackburn controlled the next two rounds, and Erne rallied to win the 15th.

I had it 144-141 Blackburn, as did the RE, Klaus Dieter Hucke. The official judges had it 143-141/142-143/144-141.

On the undercard

Okay anyone else have someone like this in your uni? Jimmy Clabby is now 8-8-8. He can't help but draw ... he knocked Paddy Duffy down, won the fight on my score card and the RE's scorecard by 2 points and all 3 judges called it 95-95.

March 15, 1911

Sam Langford (CH) (27-6-2) started strong and finished strong scoring a KO12 over Joe Jeannette (CH/3) (23-2) to win the IBF title and retain the WBA and WBC. Langford is the first champ to hold three titles at once.

Langford dropped Jeannette in the first round and it looked like it would be a repeat of Papke/Ketchel. But Jeannette finished out the round.

Jeannette slowly started taking over the fight then winning 6 out of the next 8 rounds. Langford's left eye was swollen and he started carrying his hands low in the 8th. Langford looked a little better in the 10th and the 11th as he started catching Jeannette with solid combinations.

In the 12th, a solid shot cut Jeannette under the right eye and it seemed to distract him and Langford drilled him with a right cross that KO'd him.

That was Jeannette's second loss, both to Langford.

I had it 105-104 Jeannette at the stoppage.

In the early going it appeared McConnell was going to win this one, but then he got tired and his left eye was swelling shut. Ahearn finished strong winning the last 4 rounds.

I had 114-114. Mark Somogyi (RE) had it 115-113 Ahearn. The official judges had it 115-113/114-115/118-111 .. not sure which fight that last judge was watching.

The judge who scored the fight 118-111 first bias was Hometown favorite. Ahearn is from the UK and that is where the fight was, McConnell was from Ireland. I didn't put Ahearn as hometown favorite though so I wander if that was factored in.

His low score was 10 so I can't really see it being that. Interesting.

it amazes me that you have kept your uni up for so long and with so many weight classes. Kudos to you Mike. I probably wont be able to go all the back to the start but so far the last month or so has been good reading and helps me with ideas for my own dynasty.

Fred Russell (CH) (18-7) got up off the mat to score a KO9 over Al Weinig (18/27) (15-13-1) for his second defense of the WBA LH title.

Weinig dropped the champ in the 3rd round and tried to finish him, but wasn't successful. That may have done him in as Weinig looked tired from that point on. Russell dropped the challenger in the 5th, 7th, and for good in the 9th.

I had Russell up 77-72

Yeah, you've done a heck of job with the LBA. It's been entaining to follow along and see how everything has played out over the years. Dillon's run has been pretty impressive, what is the longest winning streak. I'm glad to see Ryan was the first to 40 and more importantly he's back in the top 5 getting us closer to the rematch of the century.
