Gotta ask Mike do you sleep? Will Sam Langford have a chance for the WBO belt also?

10-5 every night LOL ....

Langford will have a shot .. if two champs are fighting the same month they have a 25% chance of fighting each other.

I sleep later in the summer but with 4 kids to get off to school in the morning i need to make sure i get an early start. Now the flipside is that i work from home so i can sit in my boxers and a t shirt and work all day.

I'm usually in bed between eleven and twelve (sometimes later if my wife is working late or if there's something good on TV) and I'm up between six and seven every morning.

It's better that I work in an office now. When I was in route sales I had to be at the warehouse at 4, so I was up at 2:20 every morning.

I'm one of those that can't put my contacts in until I've been up at least an hour or so. So I get up at 5, leave for work around 6:45. The wife works from home and makes twice as much as I do, so what the hell. But at least my family owns the company I work for so owner's son has it's own set of benefits.

Smith defends CBU title

May 4, 1911

Dave Smith (UR) (11-1) (pre) came into this CBU title fight as an 3-2 underdog but controlled the entire fight enroute to a UD12 over Thomas Sayers (24/32) (13-3-3) (pre). This was Smith's first defense of the title.

Smith came out and won the first 4 rounds. The bout was pretty much even the rest of the way. No knockdowns or cuts.

I had it 116-112 as did Jans Oejlerking (RE). The official judges had it 115-113/115-114/115-113.

On the undercard

MW - George Gunther (66/36) (15-6-1) UD10 Dan Creedon (3/45) (27-15-1) 97-95 (gunther at pre ... huge rankings drop for Creedon)

WW - Jack Willis (36/29) (15-10-1) UD10 Paddy Sullivan (UR/30) (10-3-2) 96-93 (sullivan at pre)

FW - Mississippi (UR) (11-0-2) KO1 Dick Mills (37/52) (10-8) NA (both at pre)

Langford wins big

May 5, 1911

Sam Langford (CH) (28-6-2) got up from a first round knockdown to pummel George Godfrey (10/12) (28-15-3) scoring a KO7 for the first defense of his IBF title. The WBA and WBC titles were not on the line. Godfrey keeps his AABU title.

Godfrey dropped Langford early in the first. Langford wasn't really hurt and didn't take too much punishment the rest of the round. The champ then went on to win the rest of the rounds by very wide margins. He knocked Godfrey down in the 5th and as Godfrey's right eye was swelling shut Langford dropped him for good in the 7th.

I had it 58-54.

On the undercard

HW - Joe Goss (20/16) (24-6-2) UD10 Billy Squires (97/100) (14-17-1)

LH - Seaman Johnson (35/27) (11-5) UD10 Frank Gotch (27/37) (14-7) (both at pre)

MW - Bob Moha (35/28) (14-5-5) TKO10 Rufus Williams (38/50) (11-3-3) (williams at pre ... williams down 5 times and cut twice ... williams moves to prime)

LW - Jack Hanley (UR/30) (12-2-1) UD10 George Monroe (43/55) (11-13-1) (both at pre ... monroe has to be the worst 6 rated fighter in the game)

HW - Paddy Ryan (club) (12-15-2) KO1 Steve Taylor (club) (20-22) (taylor at end for this club fight)

A first in the LBA

A champion was knocked down 6 times in a fight and won! ... 4 times in one round .. thought the round should have been scored 10-5 but all 3 judges scored in 10-6 which made it a 1 point win on all the cards for the champ. Challenger only went down 1 time, in the 15th.

More later!

Klaus goes down 6 times, retains title

May 6, 1911

Frank Klaus (CH) (21-6-1) went down 6 times including 4 times in the 8th round and still managed a UD15 over Bob Turnball (11/19) (16-2-1). Klaus retains his WBA Middleweight title getting his 6th defense.

Klaus dominated the opening of the fight winning 5 out of the first 6 rounds. Then the challenger dropped the champ late in the 7th. Then obviously the champ was not recovered as he was dropped 4 times in the 8th. How the fight wasn't stopped I have no idea. Points only ended up being 33-9.

Klaus recovered enough to win the next 3 rounds before being dropped again in the 12th. The two split the next two rounds and then Klaus dropped Turnball in the 15th and that proved to be the difference.

I had it 139-139, scoring the 8th 10-5. The ringside expert is useless in this fight because it won't score a round worse than 10-8. The official judges all had it 140-139, all scoring the 8th 10-6.

The LBA commissioner did not call for a mandatory rematch stating that even if the judges had scored it 10-5 it would have been a draw and Klaus would have still kept his title.

On the undercard

MW - George Rooke (31/23) (22-17-1) KO8 Joe Thomas (29/36) (16-6-4) 69-64 rooke

LW - George McFadden (62/59) (13-12-2) KO8 Jack Daly (96/96) (10-11-1) (96 is last ranked)

BW - Johnny Ritchie (38/38) (13-5-3) DRAW10 Billy Rotchford (44/44) (14-14-2) (ritchie at pre)

LH - John Donaldson (15/13) (20-13) SD10 Sam Campbell (19/30) (11-6) (campbell at pre)

LH - Fred Cooley (club) (13-16-2) UD10 Jack Beauscholte (club) (8-14-3) (club fight)

That's a wild fight Mike. I have a fight on DVD of Lesnevich and Mills where Mills went down in the second but managed to make a huge comeback only to fall for good in the ninth or tenth.

But to win after that, wow!

I have to agree with Chris that was an amazing win for Klaus. I'm shocked that the fight wasn't stopped during the 8th, really what more can a man do to earn a stoppage then that.

I know ... not the best fight I've ever had, that's still Ryan and Papke but the wildest fight for sure.

I meant to say that Mills went down four times in the second.

"Mills went down in the second" doesn't have nearly the same impact.

It truly is an outstanding fight. During his career Mills drew comparisons with prize ring great Henry Pearce, The Game Chicken, Both his heart, fighting spirit, and endurence were considered to a modern version of Pearce.
