He is 24-18-5 and is post-prime he had a nice run in this tourney. After a draw with Paddy Levin, he ko'd him in the rematch. Then caught a break and got to fight Isadore Strauss in the second round. Strauss had upset Bob Turnball in the first round.
This tourney had some lesser fighters in it because there was another tourney going on at the same time. |

Julian pulls an upset
June 23, 1911
Kid Julian (UR) (10-0-1) (pre) scores a UD12 over Young Pluto (15/23) (19-3) (pre) to win the CBU FW title. Pluto came in a 3-1 favorite but was out of shape and showed it. His right eye started swelling in the 2nd and he was out of gas by the 6th. The last few rounds he was just trying to land on big shot and never succeeded. I had it 117-112. (RE) Jaret R. Morgan had it 117-113. The official judges had it 117-113/117-112/116-112. Julian moves to main with the win. On the undercard MW - Billy Papke (2/2) (22-4) TKO4 Martin Mulverhill (61/66) (10-9-2) (mulverhill at pre) FW - Tommy Sullivan (27/26) (19-15-4) UD10 Young Byrnes (78/79) (9-13-2) (sullivan at post ... his 7th straight win) BW - Charley Kelly (29/21) (12-11-2) UTD6 George Church (UR/40) (12-2-1) (church at pre, was down by only 1 point on all the cards) LW - Willie Beecher (UR) (14-0) MD10 Dave Wallace (86/89) (12-11) 96-95 (both at pre .. not a proud win for Beecher) HW - John Morrissey (UR) (11-3) KO8 James Dalton (club) (16-22-6) (morrissey at pre, Dalton at post for this club fight ... Morrissey moves to main) |

Beginners for July 1911
54 out of 121 beginners were in action against TC's this month and they went 40-9-5 against them. LW division struggled to an 8-4-3 record.

I don't have the game here at work but isn't he a 9? Doesn't really matter in my uni though because Benny Leonard is in the beginners at LW and I can't see anyone beating him once he gets to prime.

Thats a solid group of fighters should be a heck of a tournment. I'm picking Abe Attell for the win, why I don't know but he is my pick.

A rematch between Ketchel and Papke has been agreed to for the IBF MW title. Let's hope Papke makes it out of the first round this time and it becomes the fight it was expected to be the first time.
