A little bit of a landmark for my universe. With the total fighter number up to 292 fighter I have my first month in which 100 fighters are fighting. April of 1905. Also the are a couple of fighters with 23 or 24 fights and a losing record. That means I'm also about ready to have my first post-prime fighter. Won't be long after that until I am posting my retiring fighters.

April 26, 1905

Young Griffo (17-4-2) handed Aurelio Herrera (4-2) his second loss with a UD10. Griffo's defense was too tough as Herrera couldn't get any kind of momentum going.

Griffo won the last 3 rounds to break open a close fight. There were no knockdowns or cuts.

I had it 98-94. Scott Lang ringside had it 97-94. The official judges had it 96-95/96-94/97-93.

quick update ... I'm now in June 1905. There were no championship bouts in May and there are none scheduled for June. Although I have spent alot of my time playing NCAA 2005 with my son, I didn't want anyone to think I abdoned my universe.

June 21, 1905

Aurelio Herrera (5-2) rebound from a UD loss to Young Griffo with a close UD win over Solly Smith (10-10-2). The veteran Smith almost pulled off the victory and many in the crowd thought he did.

A big difference was the point taken away from Smith in the 7th for excessive holding and hitting. It made the difference on the final score cards. The official judges had it 95-94, 96-94, 95-94.

I personally had Herrera losing 95-96. Herrera's handlers commented after the fight that Aurelio has fought 2 tough opponent's in a row and is better for it.

Sorry for the long layoff ... been busy with work and then had a funeral in Jacksonville over hurricane weekend. But I'm back now.

June 25th, 1905

Billy Plimmer (13-5-4) stunned the crowd in London when he completely dominated champion Owen Moran (14-2-1) from the opening bell.

Plimmer won the first two rounds easily then dropped Moran in the 3rd. Moran frustrated throughout the fight got penalized for holding and hitting in the 9th but it hardly mattered as he was way behind on all score cards anyways.

I scored the fight 145-139, T.C. Dale who was watching another fight had it 143-142. The official judges had it 145-139/147-137/144-139.

July 3rd, 1905

Jack Johnson (19-1) got up from a 4th round knockdown to dominate the rest of the fight and defend his title for the 8th time against #4 John J. Dwyer (12-5-1).

Dwyer started fast winning the first two rounds then knocking the champ down in the 4th. He seemed to have worn himself out though as Johnson shook off the cobwebs and dominated the rest of the fight. Dwyer was cut in the 10th and knocked down in the 14th.

I had the fight 145-138. Christopher Almodovar also had it 145-138.

The official judges had it 145-138/144-139/145-139

July 11th, 1905

Philadelphia Jack O' Brien (13-0-1) won a UD15 over defending champ Jack Root (18-6) to win the LHW Title.

O' Brien won a relatively uneventful (boring) fight with no knockdowns, cuts, or 20 point rounds.

Root tired in the end and lost 4 out of the last 5 rounds to give away the championship.

I had it 145-142 as did ringside expert George Thorn. The official judges had it 147-139/145-141/144-142.

JULY 15, 1905

Tommy Ryan (22-0) scored a 3rd round TKO over Rube Ferns for his 7th defense of the WW title. It was his 3rd and most convincing defeat of the #1 ranked WW.

Ferns was never in it. He never went down but was out on the ropes when the ref stopped it in the 3rd.

Ryan stated after the fight that he was looking to secure a MW title fight against Fitzsimmons and if he could he would leave the WW division behind.

As usual life has gotten in the way of game playing. My son is a HS freshman and plays football on the freshman, JV, and Varsity team which means 3 games a week. I work 60 hours a week and on weekends I am required to do husbandly things LOL.

I have not given up on this. When I sit down at the computer I either play poker or this. I am currently arranging the fights for August 1905 and it appears Fitzsimmons will be defending his MW title against Ketchel in what should be a great fight. As a note I was out of work when I started this universe so I was able to play alot, now not so much.

August 10, 1905

Bob Fitzsimmons (18-1) won with a 4th round TKO over #3 Stanley Ketchel (11-2) in a fight which saw both fighters knocked down.

After a slow first round Fitz dropped Ketchel with a left hook early in the 2nd round. Ketchel went down again from a barrage in his own corner but once again beat the count and hung on until the end of the round.

Ten seconds into round 3 Ketchel caught Fitz flush with an uppercut and dropped the champion. Fitz got his feet back under him and was fighting well again by the end of the round.

A stiff right jab at the start of the 4th opend a nasty gash over Ketchel's right eye and the ring doctor stopped the fight. A rematch is already in the works. It was Fitz's 9th title defense.

*Did my usual write up but then hit the wrong key and lost it all so this is the short version

Gans (19-1-1) TKO10 Austin Gibbons (10-11-2)

noteworthy - first post patch title bout Gibbons eye started to swell after the 4th round. It never got critical but the fight was eventually stopped in the 10th because Gans was pummeling him. Used to be this fight would of been over in the 7th. Good work Andreas

August 24th, 1905

Fan favorite Aurelio Herrera ran his record to 6-2 with a one-sided win over Tommy Sullivan (5-7-1). Herrera dropped Tommy in the 3rd round and then chased a running man the rest of the fight. Sullivan was cut in the 8th over his right eye and had his left eye swelling in the 9th.

I had it at 98-92. Jim Trunzo ringside has it 99-90. The official judges had it a little closer at 96-93/96-94/98-91.
