Myer wins two titles

August 19, 1911

In a short bloody and brutal battle Billy Myer (15/CH) (32-8-4) knocked out Joe Gans (CH/4) (35-5-3) in the 4th round to win the WBA and WBC Welterweight titles.

Gans dropped Myer in the first round and it appeared he'd be on his way again with an easy second round. An accidental head butt in the third cut Gans over his left eye and Myer won the round. In the fourth Myer was cut over his right eye and started taking the fight to Gans ... He landed several unanswered blows and dropped Gans who was out on his feet. There was no doubt the count was going to 10.

I had it 29-27 Gans.

On the undercard

LW - Young Joseph (65/54) (12-14-4) MD10 Johnny Summers (66/76) (12-8) (Summers at pre)

FW - Billy Snailham (11/9) (19-6) UD10 Paddy Kelly (38/46) (15-7-1) 97-93 (both at pre, Kelly stepped up to FW for this fight ... Snailham moved to prime)

MW - Joe Chip (8/5) (16-0) UD10 Walter Coffey (38/45) (12-6-1) 98-92 (both at pre)

MW - Billy Baker (20/17) (23-18-5) UD10 Pete McCoy (77/78) (19-23-1) (McCoy at post)

LW - Phil Brock (UR) (7-0-2) MD8 Tommy Coleman (club) (7-22) 77-75 (brock at pre in this club fight)

Excellent stuff Mike. Myer-Gans sounds like a tear-up while it lasted. What's Myers overall rating?

Seaman Johnson (22/20) (13-5) reversed an earlier decision and scored a close UD12 over Arthur Pelkey (UR) (8-1-1) to with the AABU Lightheavyweight title.

There were no cuts, swelling or knockdowns and every judge in the building scored it 115-114 in favor of Johnson.

I also had it 115-114.

Ward takes regional title

August 24, 1911

Mike Ward (UR/47) (12-2-1) scored a MD12 to take the AABU Lightweight title from Dick Hyland (32/49) (16-5).

Relatively uneventful fight. Hyland was winning until he ran out of gas around the 9th. Ward took the last 3 or 4 rounds to win the fight. No cuts or knockdowns.

I had it 115-113. Darryl Woodford (RE) had it 116-113. Official judges had it 115-113/114-114/115-113.

On the undercard

BW - Jimmy Walsh (12/9) (14-12-5) UD10 Nunc Wallace (49/54) (15-8-1) (wallace at pre, moved to prime ... Walsh has now won 4 in a row)

Myer is a monster. In my (now defunct ) universe, he beat Jack McAuliffe not once, but twice.

Always fun to keep up on the happenings of the LBA.

5 out of his 8 losses in my uni have come against McAuliffe (2) and young Peter Jackson (3). He has yet to beat either.

Stunning upset in the LBA

August 25, 1911

Billy Whistler (19/CH) (16-15-7) scored a stunning SD15 over Jem Driscoll (CH/6) (41-7-1) to win the IBF FW title. This is Whistler's second title as he defeated Jimmy Briggs back in 1904 and then lost in his first defense to Abe Attell.

This was a very close fight although most at ringside felt Driscoll had done enough to win. He was penalized a point but that didn't figure into the decision. No cuts or knockdowns. Whistler's right eye started to swell in the 14th and Driscoll was carrying his hands low from the 9th round on.

I had it 144-141 Driscoll, as did Jaret Morgan (RE). The official judges had it 143-141/141-144/143-141. It was the two champion biased judges who ruled in favor of Whistler. Driscoll landed 7 more punches a round and was 10% more accurate. Very shocking decision (love this game).

On the undercard

MW - Jim Griffin (66/64) (15-8-1) DRAW10 Harris Martin (25/25) (23-17-8)

BW - Barney Finnegan (66/61) (10-11-2) SD10 Steve Flanagan (48/62) (14-3) (flanagan at pre ... yet another big upset on the card)

FW - Jack Skelly (60/49) (13-5-1) UD10 Danny McMahon (44/60) (13-5) (both at pre)

MW - Bill Fleming (19/14) (14-4) UD10 Jack Williams (70/73) (16-11-2) (fleming at pre)

BW - Johnny Reagan (club) (8-22-1) UD8 Herr Dodge (UR) (3-5) (dodge at pre for this club fight, stepped up to BW also)

Griffo captures LW title

August 26, 1911

Young Griffo (12/CH) (35-8-6) scored a TKO14 over Tim Kearns (CH/8) (16-8-3) to win the WBC LW title. Griffo has now won titles in two weight classes.

Griffo pretty much controlled this fight from the opening bell. There were a few close rounds that could have gone Kearns' way. Kearns was cut over the left eye in the 8th and it was reopened and worsened up until they stopped it in the 14th.

I had it 125-122 at the stoppage.

On the undercard

LW - Charley White (36/30) (16-9-3) UD10 Billy Edwards (44/58) (23-23-5) (edwards at post)

HW - Jack Root (25/23) (38-9-2) DQ5 Battling Jim Johnson (47/57) (12-4-2) (johnson at pre)

WW - George Green (42/35) (16-2-1) MD10 Andy Watson (52/63) (12-8-2) (both at pre)

LW - Chicago Dave Barry (club) (9-13) MD8 Alf Goodwin (UR) (5-2-2) (both at pre for this club fight)

Okay that ends the month .. to get things going quicker I'm changing up how I sim the fights. I going to use the calender that someone posted (forget who posted it to give credit) and there will only be 1 fight card for each Friday and Saturday night of the month. So 8-10 fight cards.

Every other fight will be fast simmed through the auto scheduler. The cards will consist of (in order) Championship Fights, Regional Championship fights, Title Eliminator tourney fights, undfeated fighters (club or main), then the highest combined DP fights. So there will be more than one title fight on fight cards now. This will let me get through the fast simming stage in a week or so and the cards in a week or so.

So same # of fights per month just less on cards.
