I still stand by my man. Never been a fan of Barrera. Seemed like it was gonna be a good fight til the end if not for the cut.

LOL!!! I'm a big Barrera fan, though I like Pac too. It was just a bizarre occurrence that if it had happened in real life would have caused mass chaos in the ring. Had it gone on, my guess is Pac probably outlasts him for the decision. Barrera was starting to swell around the eye a bit, and Pac likely would've been able to take advantage.

Man that Pac vs MAB fight was just goofy I don't think I've ever seen that happen in game before weird, Poor MAB he got screwed out of a big win there.

Well, it will just make a rematch even more anticipated. Great stuff, GForce.

The following is the actual fight text from the end of Pac/Barrera:

0:30 Barrera fires a short right cross that lands square. That was a damaging punch. 3:3
0:35 Pacquiao is starting to fatigue... 3:3
0:39 Barrera takes a half step back as he tries to create some punching room. 3:3
0:47 Barrera misses with the jab but scores with the follow up cross. 3:5
0:47 * Bad Luck! Manny Pacquiao's cut! 3:7
0:47 Pacquiao has suffered a nasty wound on his right eyelid. The gash is bleeding profusely and its location is almost a sure guarantee to cause trouble throughout the bout. 3:7
0:47 * Regan is taking a close look at the blood trickling down Pacquiao's face; and now he steps in and stops the contest. Apparently, he wants the doctor to take a look at the damage done to Pacquiao's face, especially the cut above the eye. 3:7
0:47 * The ringside physician is making a thorough examination of the cut, after having cleared away some of the blood. He's dabbing at the wound again and from the way all three participants, doctor, ref and fighter, are nodding their heads, it looks like this contest is going to get back underway. Referee Regan is indicating exactly that – the bout is going to continue; and both fighters are getting ready to start punching again. 3:7
0:47 * Pacquiao is cut after an accidental head butt. 3:7
0:47 Barrera has really been letting his hands go. And now it appears as if Pacquiao's cut is bleeding even worse than before. 3:7
0:47 Pacquiao doesn't appear to be able to see much out of his eye as the gash on his right eyelid appears to be getting worse. You just knew that cut was going to be trouble. 3:7
0:47 * The fighters jockey back and forth and now the referee is going to use this opportunity to step in and call timeout. He's taking Pacquiao by the arm and leading him to the far ropes where the ringside physician can take a look at the cut above Pacquiao's eye. 3:7
0:51 * Oh man. Blood just spurted out of a cut high on Pacquiao's forehead. The two fighters clashed heads in Round 6 and that must have caused the gash. It was accidental, no question. Regan is stopping the action. He's motioning for the ring doctor to come look at the cut. Pacquiao is pawing at the blood. This one's going to be over. Yes, that's it. * There are more than 4 rounds in the book, so that means we'll be going to the scorecards. Points will be tallied as of the last completed round. We'll have to await the judges decision in this abbreviated bout.

Syd Vanderpool has been released from the WBA. He has chosen to join the ranks of the WBO rather than retire, so he will attempt to recover from his 0-5 start and work his way back to the big time.

RETIREMENTS

Heavyweight Jean Pierre Coopman (0-5)
Jr. Welterweight Virgil McClendon (0-5)
Featherweight Eddie Croft (0-5)

Going to try and get going with this again. I love the fights, it's just all the scheduling and record keeping between fights that makes it hard. But I miss doing it, so hopefully I can squeak in some time to get back on track here. Just realized it had been 8 months since my last post. That's depressing.

Other interesting bouts on tap for June:

Earnie Shavers vs George Foreman - Foreman obliterated Carl 'The Truth' Williams in his only bout after losing the war with Larry Holmes. Shavers blew through the WBO, but comes off a tough decision loss to Buster Douglas. Shavers fought 5 months ago, Foreman 6.

Davey Kotey vs Jose Badillo - This fight isn't about Badillo, but Kotey, who went 6-0 in the WBO and has won his first two fights in the WBA. Should he get past Badillo, it's likely Kotey - the FBA's most active fighter, and an undefeated 8-0 - becomes the #1 contender for Salvador Sanchez's title.

Ruben Olivares vs Victor Rabanales - 'Rockabye' Ruben returns from a severe hand and wrist injury that ended his WBC Bantamweight championship bout with Carlos Zarate in the first round. The most disappointing fight of any tournament finale thus far, Olivares now tries to get back on track and tune up for a promised rematch with Zarate.

Myung Woo Yuh vs Rosendo Alvarez - Yuh fights for the first time since his title fight loss to Michael Carbajal in the tournament finale. He faces a tough customer in Alvarez, who hasn't fought in more than a year. If he gets active late in the year, he could force a title fight with Hilario Zapata, or Carbajal if he can regain his title in his rematch with Zapata.

Without a doubt...a number of great match-ups...

Myung Woo Yuh vs Rosendo Alvarez - I'd slightly favor Woo Yuh punching output and stamina....

Earnie Shavers vs George Foreman (who lands first!?!)

Orzubek Nazarov vs Sean O'Grady - Can O'Grady take Nazarov power? if so...he'll outwork him over the distance...

Alexis Arguello vs Jorge Barrios - Both could end this with a power shot....I see Arguello scoring one late...

Ruben Olivares vs Victor Rabanales - Rabanales is tough if nothing else.....which means I suspect Olivares will just beat the sh*t out of him for at least 10rds....before it ends..

Masamori Tuloyama vs Satoshi Iida - Tokuyama will give Iida a boxing lesson...

Always good to get your input, Meade.

I think 11 of the 13 champs are safe. I think O'Grady could win, and I have a funny feeling Chandler is going to take out Harada.

Any chance of an Austin James update in the near future, GForce?

I haven't touched the game in ages, KC. I refuse to kill the thread, but I concede I have no idea when I'll get into writing it again.

June Title Fight Recaps

WBA Heavyweight: Muhammad Ali (5-0, 3 KO) vs Gerry Cooney (4-0, 3 KO)

After taking out Lennox Lewis in his first defense, Ali decides not to wait to fight again, gladly taking on the challenge from the powerful Irishman, Gentleman Gerry Cooney, who blasted his way through the WBO then defeated John Ruiz in his first WBA bout. But Ali saw what most critics saw...there was no way Cooney would ever catch him to hurt him. The opportunity to beat up on a White Hope was one Ali couldn't pass up, and wasn't willing to wait on.

There's not much to say from there, as this one follows the scripts. Cooney gamely pursues, but lands nothing while eating jab after jab from Ali, whose hand speed proves insurmountable. Ali toys with Cooney without playing with him, if you get what I mean. Never in trouble, but not dancing, peppering him at will. Cooney goes down in the second, twice in the third and again in the 4th before referee Filippo stops it with Cooney being chopped to pieces against the ropes at 2:32 of the 4th.

Muhammad Ali TKO 4 Gerry Cooney

WBC Cruiserweight Title Fight: Sergei Kobozev (4-1, 2 KO) vs Massimiliano Duran (4-2)

Kobozev upset Wayne Braithwaite for the strap 2 months ago, and makes his second defense. He'll have to give Braithwaite a rematch, but he's positioning himself so that, if he does that and wins, he'll be set to unify the belt with either of the other title holders. But Kobozev trying to keep up his frenetic pace on a monthly basis is asking a lot.

The weak-punching Duran hopes to bring defense and accurate punching to the table against Kobozev, a major contrast in styles.

Duran goes to roughhouse tactics early, holding Kobozev's head down and hitting. Whatever he can do. But through 5 rounds, he's kept Kobozev frustrated, and largely at bay.

But Kobozev is undeterred, and sticks to his plan of attempting to overwhelm Duran in volume. And it starts to wear him down as the fight progresses. In round 7, after a third warning for holding and hitting, ref Richard Steele takes a point away from Duran. But Duran lets his hands go afterward, rattling Kobozev. The fight is even until round 10, when Duran busts Kobozev open above the right eye. Duran takes the round, and it is thought he can regain momentum.

But it's Kobozev who comes out blasting in the 11th, and he's splitting the gloves, dominating the round. The final 12 minutes are very even, both staying with their gameplans. Kobozev's pressuring, Duran's economical but effective. And at the bell, it's up in the air.

We have a SPLIT decision...

143-142....KOBOZEV
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
145-140...DURAN

an audible gasp from the crowd follows, as even if Duran won this fight, with a point deduction, it's inconceivable he won by 6 points.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
143-142...for your winner...

AND STILL WBC CRUISERWEIGHT CHAMPION...SERGEI KOBOZEV

The point deduction costs Duran a majority draw, and thus a likely rematch. His tactics kept him in the fight, yet ultimately cost him, at a minimum, another shot.

Sergei Kobozev SD15 Massimiliano Duran

More to come...

Good stuff, no suprises in the Ali/Cooney fight but Kobozev/Duran sounded fun. Though I wonder if that second judge was sober for the fight. It's good to see the FBA back up and running
