8th - Atlantic City, NJ
In the main event at the Boardwalk Hall, Michigan middleweight James 'Lights Out' Toney put his North American title on the line against New Yorker Davey 'Bronx' Moore. It was Toney's second defense. From the opening bell, both men went head to head for three minutes. It was awesome. The crowd were on their feet screaming as punch after punch was thrown. Neither man got the upper hand. It was manic. The crowd were anticipating an awesome fight. However, at 1.52 of the next round, the fight was stopped in Toneys favour after he opened a horrendous looking gash over the right eye of Moore. The ringside doctor was called and he rightfully signaled to the ref to stop the bout. Moore and his team protested, but it was the right call. As one ringside observer stated, when three of the doctors fingers slip into the cut, it's time to stop the fight. Moore called Toney out for a re-match. Toney responded by saying if they fight again Moore won't even last into the second round, as he'd be flat on his back before the first three minutes are up. However, Moore must let his wound heal properly first and then get another win under his belt before challenging for the North American title again, as under GBA North American title rules, the challenger must have a winning record. Moore's dipped to 4-4-1 [4]. Toney improved to 6-1 [2]. In a heavyweight chief support, Oliver McCall scored a ten round unanimous decision over Carlos DeLeon. Scores were 96-95, 96-94, and 98-92. McCall had the upper hand for much of the contest, dropping DeLeon int he fifth following a cross to the jaw. DeLeon, now 4-4-1, also finished the bout with a swollen right eye. Middleweight prospect Michael Nunn, faced what many thought to be his hardest fight yet when he took on New York dangerman Iran 'The Blade' Barkley. However, Nunn cruised through the first two rounds, landing at will against the cruder Barkley and dropping him in the second following a lightning fast combination of punches to the head. Barkley was up at six. The third was closer, with Barkley beginning to land some telling shots. Nunn took the next two rounds comfortably, but then hit the deck for the first time in his career in the sixth, which was all Barkley. Nunn's right eye also began to swell. The crowd watched the start of the seventh in anticipation, curious to see how Nunn dealt with the biggest test of his career thus far. He dealt with it well as the events of the previous round seemed to sting him into action, and with Barkley looking out on his feet, he put him away after forty seconds following a barrage of punches. Nunn improved to 10-0 [5], whilst Barkley drops to 10-6 [4]. In a lively ten round lightweight contest, Sean O'Grady scored a ten round majority verdict over Sammy Serranno. Scores were 96-94, 97-93, and 95-95. There were no knockdowns, but plenty of leather thrown throughout. O'Grady suffered a nast cut under his right eye in the second, but it was kept under control due to to some excellent work from his cutsman Chris M. O'Grady now moves his pro ledger to 5-1 [2]. Serranno's dips to 1-2-2. Heavyweight 'Big' John Tate scored an eight round unanimous decision over Jody Ballard after clawing his way back. Ballard took the first three rounds with Tate looking sluggish, but he came on strong for the remainder of the fight and knocked Ballard down in the last. Scores were 78-73, 78-73, and 78-74. Tate improves to 10-7 [7], whilst Ballard drops to 2-12 [1]. In the opener, former world heavyweight title challenger Tony 'TNT' Tucker disposed of Derek Amos in the eighth and last round when Amos walked onto an uppercut. Tucker had been in control all the fight and improves to 7-9 [4]. Amos drops to 2-12 [1]. Last edited by CONN CHRIS; 07-23-2007 at 11:49 PM. |

Thanks for the comments guys.
Jeff, you're right. Nunn looks a hot prospect in the middleweight division, along with Sumbu Kalambay. Chris, I know how much you like O'Grady and just couldn't resist putting you in his corner Thanks for the interest guys. |

22nd - Tokyo, Japan
Main event at the Ryogoku Sumo Arena saw heavyweight contenders Lennox Lewis and Tony 'TNT' Tubbs squaring of against each other. Lewis, ranked number two, was on an excellent run of twelve victories and looks on the brink of a world title shot. Tubbs was coming in off a knockout defeat at the fists of James 'Buster' Douglas. Lewis came out and took control from the off, spearing Tubbs with his jab, and often landing with his excellent right cross. The second was a fast paced round, with plenty of leather thrown and not much in it. Tubbs was warned for use of the head, although it looked accidental. The third was an even, torrid affair, with both men content to lean on each other. The fourth however, seemed to be the turning point, with Lewis taking total command. He bloodied Tubbs' nose after the bell, and remained on top throughout. The fifth was a big round for Lewis, with Tubbs looking out on his feet. The referee stared intently at Tubbs, looking as though he was going to step in at any minute to stop the fight. However, the bell sounded, and Tubbs was safe. His right eye had begun to balloon up. Lewis took the seventh, with the referee stopping the round ten seconds early. Plenty of action in the seventh, with Lewis landing the more telling shots and now seemingly well ahead on points. Lewis took the eighth, and then dropped Tubbs in the ninth with one of his crosses, which had been troubling Tubbs all-night. Tubbs, knowing he was way behind on points, came out for the last round looking for the knockout. Lewis played it safe and won by scores of 99-92, 98-93, and 98-92 to improve to 17-1 [11]. Tubbs dropped to 8-7-1 [2]. After the bout Lewis, who holds the Commonwealth title, called out the winner of next months world title fight between champion Riddick Bowe, and North Amercan champ Larry Holmes, who both boxed to a draw in April. Chief support saw another Englishman, middleweight Alan 'Boom Boom' Minter, score another comfortable win, when he beat Japan's Tadeshi Mihara with scores of 97-94 twice, and 99-92. Minter was warned straight after the opening bell for butting, but soon settled down and controlled the fight by using some neat boxing skills against the cruder Mihara. Minter won every round bar the sixth, which saw both men going toe to toe. Minter improves to 5-6 [2], whilst Mihara, who holds the Asian, Oriental, and Japanese middleweight titles, drops to 5-5 [3]. Japan's Shinji Takahara, after totally dominating American Larry Banks for six rounds, came out for the seventh and put him away with a barrage of punches after thirty three seconds. Banks, who now sports an unimpressive record of 0-14-1, was down in the second and twice in the fifth, and was swollen around both eyes. Takehara improves to 2-5 [2]. Harry Arroyo scored an eight round unanimous decision over Japanese lightweight Yatsune Uehara. Scores were 76-70 twice, and 78-69. Arroyo dominated, dropping Uehara in the first, fifth, and three times in the sixth, although Arroyo, 2-3 [1], also tasted the canvas, albeit briefly, in the third. Uehara, 1-3-1, also suffered a swollen eye. Filipino lightweight Rolando Navarrette dropped Lee Cargle three times, [2nd, 5th, and 8th rounds], en route to a unanimous decision. Scores were 78-71, 79-70, and 78-71. There is talk of Navarrette, 3-1-1, meeting Japans Yatsune Uehara in December for the vacant Asian lightweight title. Cargle dropped to 0-3-1. Lightweight Claude Noel scored a split decision verdict over Filipino Tirso Albia with scores of 78-74 on two cards, and 76-77, although how the third judge scored for Albia nobody knows. Noel, now 3-2 [2], took seven of the eight rounds comfortably, and opened up a nasty looking gash above the right eye of Albia, 0-3-1, in the process. 29th - Las Vegas, NV
Caesar's Palace, on the Vegas strip, played host to the rubber match between former world heavyweight champion, 'Iron' Mike Tyson, and Atlanta's Evander 'The Real Deal' Holyfield. These two had fought a barnstormer the previous month, with Holyfield winning a points decision. It was eagerly awaited, but at one point the match looked in doubt, when at a press conference the week before the fight it had, a mini riot broke out. The two men were eyeballing each other for the publicity shots when Tyson suddenly hurled abuse at Holyfield and then rushed him. Security were quick of the mark and prevented the two men having a brawl, although GBA President Iggy Lord was knocked over in the melee. When asked whether Tyson would be disiplined, Lord said he would, but after the fight, so the fight went ahead. It picked up where the previous bout had left of, with Tyson going down in the opening round from a cross. He was up at five. This had the crowd on their feet. Holyfield was then put down in the following round when Tyson came rushing out after the bell and dropped Holyfield for a count of four. Things calmed down in the next round, with Holyfield landing the more shots and taking the round, then Tyson really opened up ni the fourth, landing some punishing blows which Holyfield managed to weather, although his knee nearly touched the canvas at one point following a vicuos uppercut. Holyfield's left eye also bagan to swell. The backward and forwardness of this contest carried on in the fifth when Holyfield came out landing some big shots and winning the round big, causing Tyson's left eye to begin swelling in the process. Holyfield took the sixth with some counter-punching, waiting for Tyson to swing and miss, then nailing him, then Holyfield really opened up in the seventh, causing Tyson's other eye, his right one, to begin swelling. Tyson looked out of gas when he trudged back to his corner at the end of the round but surprised everyone in the eighth by dropping Holyfield for seven. By now though, he was spent. Holyfield took the last two rounds comfortably and it went to the scorecards, and a split decision was announced. The crowd waited with baited breath as the scores were read out, with Al Lefkowitz scoring it 95-92 Holyfield, Carol Castellano 94-93 Tyson, and Glen Trowbridge 95-92 to the winner....Evander Holyfield. Holyfield was elated and jumped for joy, whilst Tyson, who has now lost four out of his last five, looked dejected with slumped shoulders, although he went over to congratulate the winner before making an exit from the ring. Holyfield stated that he wants the winner of next months world heavyweight title fight between the champion, Riddick Bowe, and his challenger Larry Holmes. Holyfield improved to 10-4 [8], whilst Tyson dropped to 11-5 [10]. Chief support saw tough Philadelphian middleweight Bernard 'The Executioner' Hopkins run out an easy winner against John David Jackson. Scores were 99-88 twice and 99-89, all for Hopkins in this ten rounder. He outboxed Jackson, now 6-6 [1], and dropped him in the third and ninth rounds to improve to 6-4 [3]. Heavyweight's 'Terrible' Tim Witherspoon and Mike 'Hercules' Weaver fought a re-match of last months exciting eight round draw at this same arena. This one was also scheduled for eight. Weaver took the first two rounds comfortably, but was then knocked out at the 2.34 mark of round three. Witherspoon improved to 8-9-1 [5], Weaver is now 7-11-1 [5]. Hard hitting Mexican lightweight Bazooka Limon knocked out Ernesto Espana at the 2.18 mark of round seven with a crippling bodyshot. Espana had already been down earlier in the round. Both men came out for the opening round throwing leather, although it was soon obvious that Limon had the greater artillery, although he did suffer a flash knockdown in the fourth and a gash under his lefty eye. However, it seemed to spur him on as he then put Espana down in the fifth and sixth, before finishing matters in the seventh. Limon's record is now 2-2 [2], while Espana's is 2-2-1 [2]. Middlweight Frank Tate, 8-5-2 [1], boxed his way to a ten round unanimous points verdict over Mark Medal, now 5-5-1 [1], in what was a bit of a chess match. Scores were 99-92, 99-91, and 97-93. The opener between lightweights Hilmer Kenty and Art Frias turned into a bit of a mis-match, with Kenty dominating from the opener, dropping Frias for an eight count. Kenty opened a gash above Frias' left eye in the second and the referee stopped the contest after consulting the ringside docter. Kenty improved to 3-2 [2], whilst Frias dropped to 0-5. |

Let's see if that Holmes jab can get to both Bowe and Holyfield. In my opinion it could have in real life prime - in TBCB, who knows. I've never run those particular bouts.
And say out of harm's way Ian! The big cheese in my little world, Lord Acton, never gets that close to the action. |

Man, tough run of luck for Tyson as all those loses were pretty damn close, from what I remember, maybe the man needs to line up some lower level cats to get himself back on track. On the other hand, what a amazing turn around by Holyfield.
