I know! That fight was good and I remember being very happy (strange the way you get "into" these universe and the ficitonal fighters) when Holmes clinched it. Must be that I always hated the way their real life encounter played out. Edit: Just realized that this is the 5th hundred reply. Keep the good work up.

Boxing Argus Issue 1 June, 2007 North American Action with Babe Arthur 2nd - St. Louis, MO Main event at the Sawis Center saw St. Louis light-heavyweight Michael Spinks face off against Trinidads Leslie Stewart. It was a ten rounder and part of the light-heavyweight elimination tournament. Spinks started the tournament as favourite. Stewart got of to a good start, taking the first two rounds, then Spinks really got going in the third, and didn't let up. Stewart suffered a nasty cut over the rigth eye, while his left eye began to puff up. Spinks carried on the good work in the fourth, dropping Stewart for a count of eight following a swift combination of blows to the head. Spinks dominated the fifth, then bought matters to a halt in the sixth with seven seconds left in the round. Stewart, who looked dazed and was no longer fighting back as he received punch after punch, was mercifully saved. In another light-heavyweight contest, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad punched Prince Charles Williams to defeat in just 32 seconds. He caught Williams with a solid shot right after the opening bell, and didn't let his opponent of the hook. Impressive! Michael Spinks' older brother, heavyweight Leon, also got a victory in front of his hometown fans when he beat trial-horse Derek Amos over four. Scores were 39-37 on all cards. It was Spinks' debut. Other results; Middle: Leonard Townsend TKO4 Iran Barkley Heavy: Marvin Camel W8 Colin Wilson Welter: Buddy McGirt TKO6 Roland Commings 9th - Bayamon, Puerto Rico Lightweight Livingstone Bramble was in the driving seat from the off against Claude Noel, before putting him away at 1.59 of round four with an uppercut to improve to 5-2 [1]. Noel slips to 4-5 [2]. Jamaica's Simon Brown put America's Mark Breland away at 0.33 of the tenth and last round in an absorbing welterweight match-up. It was close going into the final stanza, in what had been a give and take affair. Brown improves to 5-1 [4], whilst Breland dips to 2-2 [1]. New Jersey's Bobby Czyz took a split decision verdict against Guyana' Dennis Andries in a light-heavy elimination match-up over ten. Scores were 96-95 Czyz, 96-94 Andries. It was a hard fought contest. Other results; Light-heavy: Fulgencio Obelmejias KO6 Donny LaLonde Middle: Carlos Santos W8 Keith Holmes Welter: Jorge Vaca W8 Eric Alexander 16th - San Antonio, TX Texan heavyweight George Foreman finally broken into the top ten rankings, when he stopped the game James 'Buster' Douglas at 1.59 of round eight. Foreman was in control throughout, stagerring Douglas in the first and continuing to do so throughout. The plucky Douglas stuck in there, but had no answer to the murderous punches being thrown by Foreman. By the end of the second his eye had started puffing up. It got worse. Douglas' best round was the fourth, which he took by pot-shotting at Foreman. However, Foreman decked him in the fifth with a booming right hand. Douglas was up at the count of eight. The sixth was a tepid affair, but Big Goerge was back landing his hurtful shots in the seventh, and it was now taking a tremendous toll on Douglas. The end came in the eighth, with Douglas getting knocked down for a five count. When he regained his feet, he was lurching all round the ring. Foreman jumped on him, landing blow after blow, and thankfully the referee stopped it. Foreman is now 9-2 [8], whilst Douglas dropped to 10-8-1 [3]. James Toney, in his first outing since losing his North American middleweight strap to Bernard Hopkins, took only sixteen seconds to get a win over Texan Reggie Johnson when Johnson broke his hand on the head of Toney with the first punch of the fight. Toney is now 8-2 [4], Johnson 4-3-1. New York welterweight Saoul Mamby scored a unanimous win over Connecticuts Marlon Starling to improve to 4-1 [1]. Scores were 99-92, 99-93, and 97-94. The rounds were closer than the scorecards suggest, it's just that Mamby won most of them. Starling is now 2-4 [2]. Other results; Light-heavy: Marvin Johnson TKO5 Matthew Saad Muhammad Heavy: Derrick Banks W8 Michael Dokes Heavy: Jody Ballard D6 Anthony Willis Page 5 Last edited by Ian Lord; 07-12-2007 at 06:05 PM. |

Boxing Argus Issue 1 June, 2007 Rest of the World 2nd - Seoul, Korea Korean light-heavy, Chong-Pal Park came away with a razor thin split decision victory over American tough-guy Dwight Qawi to put him in the second round of the world elimination tournament. Scores were 95-94 twice for Park, and 95-94 for Qawi. It was a bitterly fought contest all the way for both men. Everything looked even going into the ninth round at four rounds apiece. Park was dropped to the seat of his pants from a combiantion of blows. He was up at the count of three, but it was a 10-8 round to Qawi, and in this reporters eyes Park know needed a knockout to win, or a knockdown to draw even. Park took the last round, and he was looking for a knockout. Qawi remained on his feet throughout. The decision was read out, and Park got the verdict. A disgruntled Qawi stated that if it had been on American soil, he'd have got the win. In a lightweight match-up, former United States champ Sean O'Grady stopped the Asian champ, Rolando Navaretted at 2.38 of the fifth in a scheduled ten. The busy Navarette got the better of O'Grady in the first couple of rounds, but then O'Grady began to pull it back, and was landing blow after blow at the time of the stoppage. O'Grady is now 7-4 [3], whilst Navarette dipped to 5-5-1 [1]. European middleweight champ Sumbu Kalambay took all he could handle from hard-hitting New Yorker Davey Moore before coming away with a ten round majority decision. Scores were 95-93 [x2], and 94-94. Kalambay was down twice and ended the fight with a badly swollen right eye. He was dropped in the third from a cross to the jaw, and took an eight count. He was then down again a couple of rounds later, again from a cross. He was up at three. However, he won most of the other rounds to get the victory and improve to 17-1 [7], whilst Moore is now 7-7-1 [5]. Other results; Welter: Sang-Hyun Kim WTKO7 Pedro Garcia Middle: Tadeshi Mihara W8 Chris Walsh Light Charlie Brown W8 Art Frias Akio Ohshima 23rd - Glasgow, Scotland Scottish lightweight Jim Watt, the European and Commonwealth strap holder, delighted his hometown fans at the Braehead Arena by making easy work of Venezualan Ernesto Espana. Watt was onto his foe from the opening bell, and didn't let up. Espana suffered a cut, a slice above the right eye, in the opener. It didn't help matters for the brave fighter. He was down in the second from a rattling combination of blows to the head. He regained his feet at the count of seven. Watt continued to dominate the next few rounds before again sending Espana crashing to the canvas in the sixth from another combination. WEspana quickly regained his feet, but looked wobbly. Watt pounced on him, sending him crashing down agin. This time he failed to beat the count. Time was 1.13. Watt improved to 8-1 [6], whilst Espana is now 7-6-1 [5]. Former British, Commonwealth, and European middleweight champ Mo Hope put on the performance of his career and nearly upset top contender Michael 'Second To' Nunn. Nunn edged it by split decision, with scores of 94-93 [x2], and 93-94, to improve to 14-1 [6], mainly due to a big ninth round, in which he dropped Hope twice, once from an uppercut, then a punishing bodyshot. Hope, who dropped to 4-6 [1], is a lot better than his stats suggest. London welterweight Lloyd Honeyghan won an impressive ten round unanimous decision over the tough Milt 'The Iceman' McCrory. Scores were 96-93 [x2], and 97-92. Both men finished with badly swollen eyes, and McCrory was dropped in the seventh for a count of five. Honeyghan is now 3-1-1, McCrory 1-3. Other results: Heavy: Pinklon Thomas W10 Gerrie Coetzee Light-Heavy: Graciano Rocchigiani W10 Murray Sutherland Middle: Alan Minter W8 Anthony Bartinelli Albert Smith Page 6 |

That win puts him back in the mix. Duran defends his world title in September against Harry Arroyo, who beat O'Grady to become US champ. If Duran gets past Arroyo, which I beleive he will, then he will make another voluntary defense before he makes a mandatory. If O'Grady keeps winning, it could be him. Otherwise he could target Rosario's North American strap.
