The Holmes - Tyson fight is scheduled for December, the winner to face Bowe [provided he gets past Tubbs in November] around April time.
Lewis is also one of my all time faves, but you're damn right about him being prone to the one punch knockout. His only defeat in this uni was when he walked onto an uppercut by Anthony Willis [who has an overall rating of 1]. |

Man if only Tyson could have done that to Buster in real life and not gone to jail the 90s would have been a much more intreseting time. I'm really looking forward to that Tyson/Holmes fight should be a great one. Hopefully the time off will let Holyfield get his crap together and stop getting beat by ever guy he fights.
Totally agree with you there Romdawg. The first Tyson - Holyfield bout in '96 was awesome, imagine what it would have been like if they had fought in 1990. |

I apologize for the torment guys. I've just finished simming the fights for this month and will write them up over the next few days. Tyson and Holmes won't fight again now until December. Let's just hope nobody beat them this month to scupper their matchup....

Johannesburg, South Africa. Congo [Zaire's] Sumbu Kalambay won the vacant African middleweight title by a unanimous decision against Uganda's Ayub Kalule. The scores were 120-107, 120-109, and 119-107. Kalambay got off to an excellent start, dropping Kayule for a count of nine in the opener with an uppercut right on the button. kalambay dominated the fight from then on. Kalule was again dropped in the third, again from an uppercut, and he was also cut under the left eye. Kalambay put his man down in the next round, this time from a cross, and by the end of the round Kalules right eye had begun to swell, which would give him trouble for the rest of the fight. Kalambay took the next two rounds, then in the seventth the brave Kalule had his best round of the fight, which was pretty even. Kalmbay then put on a masterful display of boxing for the remainder of the fight, to take the decision and the belt. He was overjoyed at becoming the African champion, but revealed that he has applied for Italian citizenship. When he gains this, he will become ineligible for the African title, but would be allowed to contest the European belt. In the chief support, Gerald 'The G-Man' McClellan dished out a beating to New York hardcase Iran 'The Blade' Barkley, to take a unanimous decision with scores of 97-89 twice, and 97-88. Up to round six, the bout was even, but then McClellan began to take control against the brave Barkley. Barkley was put down twice in round seven, once from a hook, and then a cross, he survived the round but was never in the fight from then on. he was put down again in the eighth when he dropped his hands and carelessly walked onto one of McClellan's vicous right hands. McClellan continued to dish out the beating in the ninth, and dropped his foe at the end of the round from a four punch combination to head and body. McClellan only had to stay on his feet for the next round and the result was a foregone conclusion, and with Barkley having nothing left in the tank, McClellan cruised it. Undercard Action. Trevor Berbick knocked out Marvin Camel at the end of the sixth round with a howitzer of a right hand. The count was a formality. Berbick was ahead on pointa at the time of the knockout, although it was a tight contest until then. James 'Bonecrusher' Smith finished off Gary 'The Bull' Winmon in less than a minute. Smith came out of his corner and was landing punch after punch from the opening bell, an uppercut finishing it off, and nearly taking off Winmon's head in the process. Oliver McCall improved to 4-0 with an eighth round knockout over Anthony Willis. Willis started well but McCall then began to take control of the fight. the end came at the 2.25 mark. In a battle of debutants over four rounds, Bruce Seldon won a unanimous decision against Colin 'Kid' Wilson. the scores were 39-37 on all three cards. Wilson narrowly took the opener, but Seldon then stepped up a gear and took the next three rounds. |

London, England. Middleweight Maurice Hope added the vacant European title to his british and Commonwealth straps when he outpointed Italy's Vito Antuofermo over twelve rounds. The scores were 117-111 twice, and 117-110, all for Hope. Antuofermo got off to a good start, winning the first three rounds, which were all lively. Hope then began to take control of the fight by boxing at a distance from the tough Italian, who wanted to get in close and rough it up. Hope edged the fourth, but then won the next three rounds comfortably, cutting up Antuofermo's right eye in the process. Antofermo narrowly won the eighth, but Hope then took control of the fight, and floored his opponent in the tenth with a combination of punches. he stayed out of danger for the rest of the bout and took the decision and the title. "I'm thrilled to bits," the new champion said after the bout, with his new belt around his waist and his British and Commonwealth titles slung over his shoulders. "I want to add the world title now, then have a domestic showdown with Allan Minter, [who fought earlier in the night]." In the chief support, Lennox Lewis tore through 'Big' John Tate and stopped him at 2.11 of the opening round. Lewis was absolutely awesome and was landing at will when the referee stopped the fight. Again he called out the top boys in the division. Undercard Action. Allan 'Boom Boom' Minter knocked out high ranking American middleweight Frank Tate with a wicked combination of punches to the head and body, after 40 seconds of the eighth round. Tate narrowly edged the opener, with Minter losing a point for hitting low. Minter stepped up a few gears in the second round however, and dominated for the remainder of the bout. After a close opening two rounds, Japan's Tadeshi Mihara knocked out Brazil's Roggerio Caciatore at 2.32 of the third. Cacciatore had already been down twice in the third, both from bodyshots, and the final crippling bodyshot put him away for good. Shinji Takehara stopped 'Irish' Chris Walsh at 2.22 of the sixth. It was a close bout up to the sixth, with Takehara slighly edging it. Walsh hit the deck in the sixth from a crippling bodyshot and couldn't recover, with Takehara finishing him off. Carlos 'Sugar' DeLeon had an impressive debut, by beating Jody Ballard by unanimous decision with his sharp boxing skills. Scores were 40-36, 40-37, and 39-37. |

Las Vegas, NV. In his final tune-up bout before facing North American champion Larry Holmes, former world champ 'Iron' Mike Tyson squared off against Pinklon Thomas. If the object was for 'Iron' Mike to get some rounds under his belt, then it failed miserably, but if Tyson and his team were hoping to show off his devastating punching power to Holmes, who was sitting ringside, then it was a resounding success. It took Tyson just two minutes and twenty three seconds to dispose of his outgunned opponent. Thomas came out flicking the jab, but Tyson soon got inside and started opening up with power shots, and it was obviuos that this fight wasn't going to last long. After Tyson had rained an unanswered volley of fifteen punches to the head of Thomas, Thomas collapsed to the canvas and the referee's count was a formality. World champion Riddick Bowe was also sat ringside, and after the bout when Larry Merchant asked Tyson if he was ready to regain his old crown, Tyson replied: "All I'm concentrating on now is beating Larry Holmes. Larry Holmes is an excellent boxer and if I start looking at the fight after him, then he could beat me. That isn't going to happen, as I'm fully focused on beating Larry Holmes, and I think it's going to be a great, great fight." Larry Homes, who had fought earlier, was also asked whether he felt he could beat Tyson. "I know I can beat him," Holmes replied confidently. "Me and Richie [Giachetti, Holmes' trainer], have been working on a few things. I'm not going to be giving anything away, but if Tyson thinks he can land his bombs on me the way he's did on Pinklon Thomas tonight, then he's got another thing coming. I'll beat him, but I know it's going to be tough. He's a good fighter." North American champ Larry Holmes also put on an impressive display in the chief support, stopping Tony 'TNT' Tucker in the fifth round of a non-title affair. Holmes took conrol in the opening round, spearing Tucker repeatedly with his excellent left jab, which he used to set up his right cross. Tucker caught the judges eyes in the second, getting the better of Holmes in close, but Holmes resumed control in the third, and remained in control before winning the fight. He dropped Tucker twice in the third, firstly from a cross, and when Tucker regained his feet, Holmes rained in with a barrage of punches to put him back on the canvas. He also cut Tucker's right eye up, but Tucker survived the round. Holmes took the fourth, then came out and finished an exhausted Tucker of in the fifth, when Tucker was no longer fighting back. The end came at the 2.40 mark. Holmes now defends his North merican title against Mike Tyson in December, in what is also billed as an eliminator for the world title. Undercard Action. Michael 'Dynamite' Dokes scored a majority points win against Mike 'Hercules' Weaver. The scores were 78-72 and 77-73 for Dokes, and 75-75. Dokes hit the canvas in the second round in a flash knockdown, and put Weaver down in the last round, with Weaver only beating the count. After a tight opening round, John David Jackson opened up a sickening gash above the left eye of Juan Carlos Barretto, forcing the referee to call a stoppage at the 1.17 mark of round two. Mark Medal won a unanimous decision against Anthony Bartinelli, with scores of 77-73 twice, and 78-72. The fight got of to an excellent start, with Medal dropping Bartinelli twice in the opener, before Medal got on his bike and boxed his way to the points decision. Michael Nunn scored a unanimous points win over Larry Banks on his pro debut over four rounds. It was 39-37 on all judges scorecards. Banks took the opener, then Nunn came back to take the remaining three rounds, the second and third convincingly. The last round was one of the dullest rounds ever witnessed, with the referee urging both men to throw punches at one stage. |

GBA NEWS
World middleweight champion Marvelous Marvin Hagler makes the first defence of his title in January against Britains Maurice Hope. Hope is currently the British, Commonwealth, and european champion, but will probably be out of his depth against the champion. The Riddick Bowe/Tony Tubbs world heavyweight title fight in November will be held in Japan. Tadeshi Mihara and Shinji Takehara will box in the chief support with the vacant Asian, Oriental, and Japanese straps up for grabs. |

15th October, 2005.
Philadelphia, PA. Lennox Lewis managed to snatch a victory from the jaws of defeat when he KO'd 'Terrible' Tim Witherspoon at 2.58 of the seventh round. Witherspoon was comfortably ahead on all judges cards at the time. Witherspoon, boxing in front of his hometown fans in the City of Brotherly Love, came out and stamped his authority over his sluggish opponent in the opening round, causing Lewis' right eye to begin swelling in the process. Lewis came out and took the second round when he managed to find a way through Witherspoon's unorthodox defense. From the third on , however, Witherspoon was back in the driving seat and was beating Lewis with ease, putting him down in the fifth with a crushing uppercut. Lewis beat the count and managed to hang on to the end of the round. Lewis again tasted the canvas in the sixth, this time from a combination of punches to the head. Again he beat the count and managed to survive. The fans were now rabid, sensing victory for their man. The end came in the next round, only it was Witherspoon who got counted out. Lewis, who had appeared sluggish and out of sorts for the whole fight, came roaring out of his corner for the seventh, intent on flattening his man. Witherspoon, taken by surprise, had no answer and was put to the canvas for a count of five by a hard body shot. Lewis, sensing he had his man, didn't let Witherspoon of the hook from then on, throwing punch after punch until he finally put his foe on the canvas again. Again Witherspoon beat the count, but the end was nigh. Lewis was onto his man straight away and landed a hard shot to the head. Witherspoon bought his arms up, then pitched face first to the canvas in a delayed reaction. The referee counted, but there was really no need. The arena went deadly quiet in shocked disbelief, and Lewis and his team immediately left the ring and headed back to the changing rooms. In the chief support, Gerald 'The G-Man' McClellan dished out a beating over four rounds against Davey Moore, stopping him due to a gaping gash over Moore's right eye. McClellan seized control from the opening bell is this battle of punchers, and dominated Moore until the stoppage. Moore was down right at the beginning from a hook to the ribs and finished the round with swelling above his right eye. McClellan again tore into Moore in the second, but failed to put his man away. The third was more competitive, with some good toe to toe action, McClellan landing the harder, cleaner shots and Moore finishing the round with both eyes swollen. The end came in the fourth, with McClellan opening a horrific gash above Moore's right eye, forcing the referee to call a stoppage. the end came at 2.30. Undercard Action. James 'Bonecrusher' Smith pummelled Gerrie Coetzee for two rounds before finishing him off with a thunderous right cross in the third. The end came at the 2.36 mark. John David Jackson boxed his way to a comfortable unanimous points decision over eight rounds against Larry Banks, with scores of 78-74, 80-71, and 79-73. Banks went down in the fifth from a hook. Mark Medal beat Leonard Townsend on points over ten rounds, with scores of 98-93, 96-95, and 97-94. It was an uneventful bout, with neither man putting there opponent in much trouble. Carlos 'Sugar' DeLeon won over six rounds against derk Amos with scores of 58-56 on all judges cards. DeLeon possesed the better boxing skills in six close rounds. |

22nd October, 2005.
New York, NY. James 'Buster' Douglas eked out a unanimous points verdict over ten rounds against Greg Page. It was a dull, repetitive bout with no knockdowns and neither man looking like scoring one. There wasn't much in it after the seventh round but Douglas took the last three to claim the decision. Greg Page, unhappy at the verdict, grabbed hold of the microphone after the decision had been read out and challenged 'Buster' Douglas to a rematch. Not many fans in attendance would pay to see it. Fight of the evening was the chief support between Bernard 'The Executioner' Hopkins and hometown favourite Iran 'The Blade' Barkley. Both men were coming of defeats [two in Hopkins case] and looking to get back on the winning trail. Hopkins started of strong, winning the first three rounds big and laying the hurt on Barkley, but Barkley's a tough guy and hung in there, although he did go down for a three count in the third from a combination of punches to the head and body. Barkley then started to come on strong from the fourth onwards, with Hopkins boxing cleverly on the backfoot and still taking the rounds with his counterpunching, although they were a lot closer, with Barkley taking the fifth. The scores were 98-91, 97-92, and 96-93, all for Hopkins. After the bout, Hopkins announced his intentions of fighting a rematch with North American middleweight champ James 'Lights Out' Toney, who beat Hopkins narrowly on points in August for the title. There's a lot of bad blood between these two, and it's definately a fight people would pay to see. Undercard Action. Heavyweight prospect Oliver McCall improved to 5-0 with a unanimous points win over Australia's Colin 'Kid' Wilson. McCall was in control throughout the bout and briefly dropped his foe in the second with a howitzer of a right hand. The scores were 96-93 on all judges cards. Slick boxing Keith Holmes had to turn puncher to beat journeyman Anthony Bartinelli. Holmes was down in the first and behind on points when he knocked his opponent out in the fifth round with an inch perfect cross at the end of the round. Bruce Seldon, despite a rocky second round against Derk Banks, put on an impressive performance and finished his opponent of at 1.18 of the fourth round with a crippling bodypunch. Michael Nunn won a unanimous six round decision against Juan Carlos Barretto with his neat boxing skills. The scores were 59-55 twice, and 58-56. |
