Dempsey Regains Title
KO Win May Set-up Rubber Match With Wills New York, - Last night, before a large crowd at Yankee Stadium, Jack Dempsey snatched back the heavyweight title with a devastating knockout of Harry Wills in the 11th round of their 15-rd bout. Wills said later he would be back in the ring soon. The fight looked like it would be a short one when Wills easily took the first round, and then put Dempsey down hard in the next. Only the Manassa Mauler's superb condition allowed him to recover and kept him on his feet until the bell. Dempsey rebounded to take rounds 3-4-5 and 6 on all judges cards, only to have Wills come back to win 7 and 8 handily. The 9th was close but Dempsey took it, then dominated the 10th before decking Wills with seconds to go. Harry scrambled up just before the gong, but he was in bad shape as he made for his corner's open arms. Less than a minute into round 11, Dempsey hammered Wills with a double left hook to body and head, then dropped him in his own corner with a big right hand to the chin. There was no getting up. On the undercard, Bartley Madden upset the odds-makers by stopping Victorio Campolo in 5. Jack Renault of Montreal decisioned Otto von Porat of Norway in 10. Young Johnny Gillis of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia TKO'd Sweden's Harry Persson in 6. Johnny Risko managed to out-maul Young Stribling over 8. And Billy Miske improved to 9-0 with a 6-rd nod over Chuck Wiggins now 4-2-2. Joe O'Herlihy
