There were two George Godfrey's of note in Boxing. George Godfrey of the late 19th century was known as Old Chocolate. Both he and Peter Jackson were talented conteders and they were ducked as opponents in title fights in the US because of the color bar drawn by Sullivan. Godfrey was a step below Jackson in ability. George Godfrey, the Leiperville Shadow fought in the 20s and 30s retiring around 1938 or 1936.

here's a quick searched picture of the Leiperville Shadow ....
I put a HW after his name in the database to distinguish him from Old Chocolate, even though they were both HW's Last edited by mh2365 : 04-15-2007 at 08:11 PM. |

Career Record of Martin Neiry
Neiry is an intresting guy in my universe so far having been very active.
He Started as a club fighter but has just been promoted to the lofty hights of the Minor Contender group. Here is his record so far. 1880 PJ Rentzler W10 Johnny Woods KOby8 John L Sullivan L6 Jim Miles W10 Jim Miles W10 Enos Phillips TKO7 Dick Egan W10 Joe Hess W10 Frank Herald KOby7 John McDermont W10 JH Brown W10 Henry Higgins L10 Charles Lang KO2 9-4-0 (2) Quality of opposition has been pretty poor so I expect him to drop back down into the club ranks by the end of the year. rgds Dean |

Yep, I have him as a 3 a very powerful but brutish fighter. His quality of opposition has not been amazing but he holds wins over Dwyer, Taylor and Allen. |

Mmm, Maybe you could be right, Mitchell is having an amazing run but always seems made for John L when they clash. Foley would be a danger as Sullivan always struggles agianst smart boxers if he does not overwhelm them. Also Sullivan is still at the Beginning carrer stage until he has completed 15 bouts so this will have an impact. rgds Dean |
