LW retirements end of 1911

Billy Edwards retires at 24-23-5 with 282pp Edwards was another orginal fighter who started off losing his first 3 and dropping to club in 12/02 at 3-9. He finally made it back to main in 08/10 with a record of 21-21-4. He had a few good wins but never a big one. He never fought for a title. He was knocked down more (9/12) but had more stoppages (5/3). Cuts were even at 15 and he was more accurate (36%/27%). He is not eligible to comeback.

Mike Daly retires at 21-22-2 with 109pp Daly was another original who dropped to club in 04/02 at 1-6-1. He went back to main in 02/06 at 11-11-2 and promptly lost his next 5 fights to drop back to club in 11/07 at 11-16-2. He never made it back up despite winning 6 of his final 7 fights. He never fought for a title. He was knocked down a lot more (24/44) but had more stoppages (17/10). He was cut a lot more also (11/23) and was far less accurate (25%/44%). He is not eligible to comeback.

Thomas Palmer retires at 21-23-3 with 66pp Palmer was an original member of the LBA but he got off to a rough start going 2-7 to drop to club 01/02. He evened his record out at 16-16-2 in 10/08 to move back to main where he managed to stay until he retired. He never fought for a title, he did have a UD10 over Solly Smith though back in 09/02. He was knocked down more (13/19), stopped more (4/6), cut more (12/17) but was more accurate (36%/29%). He is not eligible for comeback.

Tug Wilson retires at 18-23-1 with 24pp Wilson goes out on a winning note defeating Nils Tieleman in his final bout. He only had a 5-5 record in his last 10 bouts. Wilson dropped to club on 1/03 and never made it back up. He finished strong winning 5 of his last 6 all against TC's though.
He had less knockdowns (12-35), less stoppages (3-12) but cut his opponent more (17-15) and was more accurate (42%-38%).

Matty Matthews retires at 22-25-2 with -119PP

Matthews was one of the originals. He dropped to club in 12/01 with a record of 2-7. He came within a win of getting back to the main division several times but never was able to pull it off. His longest winning streak was 4 fights. He was knocked down 32 times and stopped 14 times. He only scored 8 knockdowns and 3 stoppages.

He was not a good 6 rated fighter. He retired after two straight wins over TC's.

stealing Brooks' format

Fighter: Tompkin Gilbert
Division: Heavyweight
Record: 13(1) - 30(6) - 5

Notes: Gilbert was never a player in the main division dropping to club in 10/02 and never making it back. Won 4 fights in a row in 1908/9 but that was his best effort. Gilbert only scored 4 knockdowns in his career but was fairly sturdy going down 25 times in 48 bouts and only being stopped 6 times.

Just one knockout? Atleast he had a good chin.

Fighter: Mike Brennan
Division: Heavyweight
Record: 22(17) - 23(15)
Retired: Forced, no comeback

Notes: It was kill or be killed for Brennan with 32 of his 45 fights not making the distance. Brennan had some big wins (Dominic McCaffrey KO7 and Joe Goss UD10) but was very inconsistent. He dropped to club in 1/08 but thanks to 7 straight wins got back to main in 03/12. Never fought for a title

Fighter: Frank Childs
Division: Heavyweight
Record: 27(16) - 18(4) - 6
Retired: Forced, no comeback

Notes: Childs was one of those fighters who never quite made it. He had some decent wins but pretty much lost everytime he stepped up. No title fights

Fighter: Tom Lees
Division: Heavyweight
Record: 32(19) - 18(11) - 1
Retired: Forced, possible comeback 50/25 (means 50% chance first year, 25% second year)

Notes: Lees had a nice career despite being a bit chinny. He would consistently beat guys who were equal or worse than him, but would lose when he stepped up. He won 9 in row before losing his last fight. No title fights

A fan favorite hangs them up for good

Fighter: Jack Dempsey NP
Division: Middleweight and Light Heavyweight
Record: 46(31) - 7(7) - 0 (16-3 after comeback)
Retired: forced, second retirement, no comeback

Notes: First HOF candidate to retire for good. Dempsey won the MW title twice before moving up and winning the LHW title. Dempsey was the first (and only so far) to defeat Jack Dillon. Only had one bad loss (to Fred Russell) but the rest of his loses came to probably future HOF'ers (Fitzsimmons x 2, Ketchel, Ryan, Papke and Klaus). He finished 5-5 in title fights.

HOF Eligible - 1914

Dammit, the man is finally putting together a solid reign and he retires. This sucks as Dempsey was always my favorite guy in the LBA. Oh well, at least he went out on top.

I even cheated and rolled twice ... both times he was the only one of the 7 up for retirement that retired ... guess it was meant to be. Almost cheated and ignored it though
