Another sneak peek pilfered from the editor's desk by Chalky the Newsboy ![]() GLASGOW PICAYUNE Sporting Edition | Volume V, Issue VI | 01 June, 1904 May Round-Up Durban, South Africa: Earl Morias gave South African Cruiserweight champ Jacob Mofokeng all he could handle and then some. The two traded blows in a phone booth for eight exciting rounds with both drawing blood. The ninth frame opened with Morias slightly ahead on the cards and gaining momentum as he started to land at a 2 to 1 rate over Mofokeng. With less than a minute to go in the round, Morias landed a cross on the champ's forehead and instantly recoiled in pain. He had fractured his wrist leaving referee Stanley Christodoulou no choice but to stop the fight. Morias was up 77-75 on two cards with the third at 76-76 and was on pace to win the ninth when the unfortunate injury occurred. Though Mofokeng may be unwilling, a rematch certainly should be mandated when Morias heals. South African Cruiserweight Top 10 - 01 June, 1904 Code:

This will be Singh's first defense since taking the belt from Afrikaner Piet Crous. The two men have met twice; in 1901 Singh scored a nine round KO in an APBC title fight and a non-title bout in 1902 resulted in a stoppage victory for Singh as well.

Another sneak peek pilfered from the editor's desk by Chalky the Newsboy ![]() GLASGOW PICAYUNE Sporting Edition | Volume V, Issue VI | 01 June, 1904 May Round-Up ![]() Best Draw EverLeixues Porto, Portugal: Spanish Heavyweight champion Alfredo Evangelista took his title to Portugal to face Jose Santa in what may well be the most exciting draw ever witnessed. The opening stanza featured plenty of action and thundering shots from both men but went into the books as a split round. The fireworks began in the second as Evngelista dropped Santa twice; first with a hook and then on a heavy cross that landed before Santa could gather his wits from the initial knockdown. All three cards read 10-7 in the champ's ledger leaving the disappointed crowd expecting a route. Surprisingly, Santa was full of steam in the third and roared back to hurt Evangelista with a hook at the bell bringing the faithful back to life. Evangelista took the wind from Santa's sails again in the fourth as he ripped open a gash under the challenger's left eye that flowed throughout the balance of the fight. Rounds five and six seesawed but neither fighter took a moment off. Still down and desperate from the 10-7 pounding in the second, Santa turned the tables in the seventh when he forced the champ to one knee with crunching blows to the ribcage. Evangelista, still wincing, staggered into the eighth and right into a Santa hook that sent him down like a sack of grain. He barely made it to his feet at a count of eight and hung on until the bell. The challenger's legs began to fail him in the ninth and were a distant memory by the tenth. As Santa's energy waned, the champ came back to life and had Santa on the ropes taking a ferocious beating when the final bell rang. The decidedly Santa crowd stood and cheered for both men throughout the inordinately long time that it took to tally the cards. Judge Erkki Meronen scored it 94-93 for Santa to rapturous applause but Suthee Prom Jara and referee Raul Caiz both saw it 93-93 keeping the belt on Spanish soil. If ever a fight screamed for a re-match, it was this one. Campeon de Boxeo de Espana Heavyweight Top 10 - 01 June, 1904 Code:

Can't figure out how De La Mata beat Uzcudun twice, only to loose to Evangelista. I think that Uzcudun would annihilate Evangelista if he got his hands on him. Well, I guess that is boxing though.
