7th December 1893 - L Street Boxing Auditorium
MW - Dan Creedon (26-5)(24) TKO7 Denny Kelliher (13-13-1)(6)
FW - Marty McCue (11-8)(11) KO2 Patsy Haley (12-9-4)(5) MW - Ted White (14-1-1)(12) MD10 Billy McCarthy (22-3-2)(11) MW - Mike Lucie (11-1-0)(11) KO9 Harris Martin (11-1)(10) Lucie (below left) announced himself to the boxing world by destroying the highly regarded and unbeaten Martin. The knockout blows, a heavy right handed combination, were the finishing touches of a one sided power display put on by Lucie. He had Martin on the deck as early as the second round and Martin hardly got a look in thereafter. WW - Andy Watson (15-2-1)(2) TKO4 (Inj) Billy Maber (11-3)(8) Maber was forced to retire after apparently breaking his right wrist. In all fairness Watson had dominated his 'crude' opponent from the opening bell. Watson planted his excellent jab on Maber with great ease, opening two nasty cuts. There was a gulf in class between the pair. WW - Mysterious Billy Smith (17-0)(17) TKO10 Jim Franey (12-2)(11) Smith (below right) left it late but maintained his perfect record of stoppages. The fight was one way traffic with Smith landing vicious hooks and rapier like combinations. Franey tried to mix it with him but enjoyed no real success. Smith has been brought along quietly by connection's but this victory has put him in the spotlight. |

Hi Christopher The Golden Gloves is a good way to check the guys that are going to 'turn pro' in the near future, check out their ratings, do some research, find pics etc. When is your universe starting up? I wish I had spent some more time getting the uni full of all the fighters before I started, can't turn back the clock now! |

12th December 1893 - Madison Square Garden
MW - Frank Taylor (8-4-1)(5) TKO9 Dick Moore (4-20-1)(1)
WW - Teddy Kelly (9-3-1)(3) UD10 Bob Allen (7-7)(2) FW - Fred Bogan (11-2)(11) KO8 Tug Wilson (4-8-1)(1) WW - Dick Sandall (17-1-1)(17) TKO6(cuts) Eugene Bezenah (10-2-2)(0) MW - Fred Morris (16-0)(11) KO9 Ed Binney (14-3)(14) Binney gave his all but always playing catch up with the smooth Morris. Morris extended his unbeaten record by landing a crushing right uppercut just as Binney was on the offensive. Morris had landed his jab at will and had a three round advantage on the cards when the final blow landed. World Bantamweight Title George Dixon (31-3)(14)(Holder) V Johnny Murphy (22-3-1)(18)(#1 Ranked) This will be the fourth defence of his crown by Dixon. This is the third fight between the pair, with Dixon winning both. Murphy challenged Dixon in October of last year and found himself on the wrong end of a beating. Both fighters look in excellent shape as they enter the ring. The bookies make Dixon a 6/4 favourite. Round 1 - Dixon draws Murphy in and lands a heavy combination, he counterpunches well and then spoils all his good work by headbutting Murphy whilst in a clinch. He is docked a point. (Even 9-9) Round 2 - Great work from Dixon. He ships a right hand early in the round but then dominates. He lands a handful of crushing right hands, already Murphy must have the last fight on his mind. (Dixon 19-18) Round 3 - Dixon again, he is landing far too much leather through the poor defence's of Murphy. (Dixon 29-27) Round 4 - Dixon lands two crushing right crosses to the jaw of Murphy, who has no answers at present. (Dixon 39-36) Round 5 - In one of the most ferocious displays seen in a World Title bout Canada's George Dixon holds onto his crown. Halfway through the round he explodes into action, landing a vicious right cross, followed by two crushing uppercut's and a hammering right cross to the body. With Murphy stumbling around the ring, Dixon swings a wild right hand which lands flush on Murphy's jaw, fight over. Dixon (below) retains his title. Last edited by Tosti; 01-18-2009 at 07:42 PM. |

I know I sent you copies of the table of merit that appeared in Jack Scroggins (Paperback) by R.A. Hartley (Author), Richard Humphreys (Author) Paperback: 140 pages Publisher: Nimrod Press Ltd (December 1989) ISBN-10: 1852592206 ISBN-13: 978-1852592202 Amazon is selling a used copy for $148.28 Also in this volume is an appendix by Humphreys that is a chronicle of fights that occured with descriptions. It is a good supplement to Fistiana's chronicle. Humphreys has some interesting commenmtary on some of the bouts. If a mill was 2nd rate he is very explicit. Have I sent you a copy of this already? I don't remember.
