20th September, Lansdowne Rd, Dublin
World Featherweight Title
Dick Hollywood (13-0-0)(10)(Holder) V Johnny T Griffin (22-6-2)(14)(#1) Hollywood makes the third defence of his title. Hollywood made a successful cuts stoppage defence against Griffin in there only previous meeting. Hollywood looks in good condition whilst Griffin has apparently been training very hard, some say too hard! Round 1 - Griffin rushes from his corner and plants a right haymaker above Hollywoods' left eye and cuts him, blood pours from the wound. The crowd at ringside can't believe it, Griffin spends the rest of the round as the aggressor. Griffin 10-9 Round 2 - Quiet round with the Champ doing the best of the work. Even 19 a piece. Round 3 - After the initial surge Griffin has backed off. Hollywood lands a nice three punch set at the end of the round. Hollywood 29 - 28 Round 4 - All Hollywood. He lands accurately with a number of right crosses', Griffin is a shadow of his recent self. Hollywood 39 - 37 Round 5 - Much better from Griffin, he lands two belters to the body, as he moves in on Hollywood he is caught flush on the chin and down he goes. He gets up at the one count, claiming a slip, but it's a two pointer for Hollywood. Hollywood 49 - 45. Round 6 - The crowd goes wild as 'their man' batters Griffin. The American needs to work on that early eye injury suffered by Hollywood. Hollywood 59 - 54. Round 7 - Same again. Griffin is not enjoying himself, the Irishman is all over him. Hollywood 69 - 63. Round 8 - Griffin gets a ear bashing from his corner between the rounds and takes notice, he goes on the offensive at last and lands some vicious blows inside. Hollywood is still doing o good job protecting that early cut. Hollywood 78 - 73. Round 9 - The pair throw caution to the wind. Hollywood, roared on by the crowd, lands' the fights' best blow so far, sending Griffin to the ropes. Hollywood 88 - 82. Griffin needs a knockout! Round 10 - Hollywood flinched as he lands a right hook, his concentration drops and Griffin smacks him with a right hook, the Champ struggles to get up but his is done. The Champ is counted out!! Griffin is the new Featherweight World Champion At the start of the 10th round Hollywood (right) was 6 points clear on all three judges scorecards, a devastating local defeat. 20th October 1894, Madison Square Garden
American Lightweight Title
World Lightweight Final Eliminator Frank Erne (21-1-0)(13)(#1)(Challenger) UD12 Jack Everhardt (22-3-0)(13)(#2) Everhardt loses American crown in first defence Erne's decision to become a US citizen was fully vilified after this resounding success. He was on the front foot throughout against Everhardt (right) and gave him a painful beating. The only glimmer of light for the holder came when he landed a right cross in the sixth round sending Erne to the deck. Erne stepped up another gear in the second half of the fight and scored the fights reamining two knockdowns courtesy of right hooks. The Swiss born scrapper will now get a crack at the World title. He will meet Jack McAuliffe at 'the Garden' next month. |

World Bantamweight Final Eliminator
Jimmy Barry (24-0-0)(23)(#1) TKO8 Billy Plimmer (25-3-2)(14)(#2) Barry to meet Corfield for the World Title. The American Champion handed out a shellacking to his British counterpart. Plimmer started brightly enough, landing some nice right hands in the early exchanges. But from the third round onwards it was all Barry (left). He pummelled Plimmer with both hands leaving the Birmingham mans face in tatters. As the bell rang for the start of the eighth round, Plimmer was suffering from terrible swelling round both eyes. Barry however didn't let up, he dropped Plimmer with a right hook to score the fights first knockdown and followed it up with two further combinations with the same result. Barry had won by TKO on the three knockdown rule. Barry will stay in London to challenge George Corfield for his World title. Last edited by Tosti; 02-15-2010 at 05:53 AM. |

World Middleweight Title
Geo LaBlanche (Holder)(27-8-1)(20) V Mike Lucie (15-1-0)(14) The first meeting between the pair. Lucie is the official no.1 contender. Both fighters look in prime form. Round's 1 thru 4 - It's nip and tuck with neither fighter gaining control. At the end of the 4th round Lucie returns to his corner with a cut under his right eye. Lucie 39 - 38 Round 5 - Lucie lands a right hand sending the Champ down, referee Raleigh rules it a slip. The challenger gets on the front foot and plants a right cross on La Blanche's chin, there's no slip this time, LaBlanche scrambles to his feet and survives to the bell. Lucie 49 - 46. Round 6 - Thirty seconds into the round and LaBlanche lands a hard right hand to the head of Lucie, he immediately takes a knee, he may have broken it! He can't continue! Lucie is the new Middleweight King! |

24th October 1894, Coney Island AC
World Welterweight Title
Tommy Ryan (Holder)(24-1-0)(17) V Joe Walcott (24-0-0)(14)(#1) Ryan makes his 9th defence. Walcott is the official no.1 challenger. Both fighters enter the ring in seemingly good condition. Round 1 - Walcott starts the better, Ryan doesn't get a look in. Walcott 10-9 Round 2 - Better from the champ, he lands some nice right hands. Even Round 3 - Ryan is on top, he ends the round with a heavy right hook. Ryan 29 - 28. Round 4 - Walcott evens it up. The challenger works well inside, landing some energy sapping body blows. Even Round 5 - Walcott puts the pressure on. He lands some heavy head shots, he seems to be winning the power battle with Ryan. The champ returns to his corner with some bad swelling around his right eye. Walcott 48 - 47. Round 6 - An all action round with neither figher holding sway. Walcott looks the better of the pair as they return to their corner. Ryan had blood pouring from his mouth. Walcott 58 - 57. Round 7 - Walcott carries on taking the fight to Ryan, he lands two uppercuts and a right hook. Ryan's eye is looking bad. Walcott 68 - 66. Round 8 - Walcott starts fast, he finds Ryan's chin with two heavy right hands. As he moves towards Ryan the champ explodes a combination to the head of Walcott who hits the deck. The Barbadian scrambles to his feet and covers up on the ropes. the bell comes to his rescue. Even. Round 9 - Walcott shows no effects from the previous round. He hammers Ryan, landing heavily with both hands. Ryan returns to his corner looking a beaten man. Round 10 - Back comes Ryan! Both fighters come out swinging, but it's the champ who lands a heavy right cross, Walcott is on the deck again, he's in trouble, the round has hardly started. The challenger gets up and tries to hold Ryan but the champ lands another right hook to the head of Walcott, he's down again. He beats the count again but the 'Barbados Demon' is out on his feet, he deperately tries to hang on but Ryan lands a huge right uppercut, Walcott hits the deck, Ryan holds on to his title via a three knockdown TKO! There was nothing in it on the scorecards. This surely won't be the last time these two square off against each other. |

Boxing News
Ryan to take on the Middleweights!
Tommy Ryan has announced his intention to become the first fighter to hold World Titles at different weights. After his blistering performance against Joe Walcott, Ryan will attempt to win the Middleweight crown to add to his Welterweight title. The WBF have backed the idea but insist that not only does Ryan 'earn' a crack at the Middleweight title, but that he also must make three defences of his Welterweight title in the next twelve months. A word of caution for Ryan. George Dixon attempted the same feat only to end the year with no belts. |

World Bantamweight Title
George Corfield (Champion)(13-1-2)(6) V Jimmy Barry (24-0-0)(23) Barry is the official no. 1 ranked challenger. This is the first defence of his title by Corfield. Both fighters looked in good condition when entering the ring. Round 1 - Barry waits a full two minutes before planting three big right hands to the chin of Corfield. The champ looks bamboozled already. Round 2 - Barry takes a jab to the chin and answers it with a 'lightning bolt' right cross. Corfield hits the canvas, he looks out but manages to get to his feet at the nine count. Barry pummels him for a minute and a half until referee Jem Mace intervens. Barry is the new Champ!
