Commonwealth Games boxers

Hi Guys,

I'm going to see the Commonwealth Games boxing over the next few days. I'll be taking notes at the fights about the boxers (the wife shakes her head and rolls her eyes), so I can have a go at rating them. I'll post them ASAP.
Meanwhile I've attatched a photo of the Melbourne HW Brad Pitt who beat the Englishman Daniel Price on points yesterday.

Shane.

I hate to say it Shane but if the No1 (David Dolan) or No2 (Tony Bellew) heavies from England would have gone the games I reckon they would have beaten Pitt, I know Bellew personally as he trains in my gym and he hits like a mule.

Looking forward to it, Shane. We're not getting any coverage at all up here in Canada. Guess they don't want to offend the morons in Quebec, which at the moment is verging on third world country status.

I went to the Comonwealth games boxing the last time they were in Edinburgh where I saw future stars Scotty Olsen, Nigel Benn and Lennox Lewis. Also Jimmy Peau I think his name was who later became known as Jimmy Thunder when he turned proffesional. When he won one of his fights his fans did a spontanious "haka"

Boxingnut, maybe you can have a go at rating these two boxers and post them. They could be valuable additions to the game.

Shane.

I saw a Scottish Light-Welter named Mark Hastie fight yesterday. He was a short and stocky little tough nut, who did well to win on points after a few early hiccups. I'll rate him when he finishes his campaign.
I'm going to see the Scottish HW Stephen Simmons fight on Tuesday. I saw him on TV the other night and he looked good against the Canadian lad.

Shane.

Star Tauasi

Here is the first of the 2006 Commonwealth Games boxers. He is Star Tauasi from the island nation of Niue, which has a population of 2000 people.
He is a very big and slow super-heavy, who can hit a bit, but hasn't got much else going for him. He lost a lack-lustre bout against the Ghanaian boxer on points 14-15.

Here is a (rather crappy quality) photo of the hero of Niue, Star Tauasi.

This is going to be great Shane! Thank you.

Have you heard anything about Mohammad Ali Qamar of India? He won a JFly gold at the games in 02 (I believe) and seems to have disappeared - I have found nothing at all about him since he lost to a Pakistani in the 04 Olympic trials. He is from Calcutta.

Robet Montgomery

Here is the Canadian Super-Heavy rep, Robert Montgomery. A shortish southpaw who lost on points 19-31 against the Welshman Kevin Evans.

Yeah, suprisingly the venue has been very close to full for every session. Probably only a small percentage would be "hardcore" boxing fans, while a lot of the rest are actually families, which is good to see. Even Steve Waugh attended yesterday, while Condoleesa Rice attended on the first day. From tomorrow onwards, it's 1/4 finals, semi-finals and finals, so hopefully it will be full. Your English team is doing quite well with a number of boys into the 1/4 finals. The Super-Heavyweight David Price is fighting tomorrow night, after his one round demolition of the Fijiian lad.

Cheers,

Shane.

Price is a good fighter, more of a boxer and experienced at international level, he's huge too about 6 foot 7 inches.
