Story involves a HW known as "The Great Finisher" who can't find opponents and is working as a sideshow act. The Finisher's last name isn't given so I improvised based on his occupation as a truckdriver. His tomato can opponent proved to be impervious to a blow from a mallet delivered from the other side of a curtain, but is an otherwise ineffectual fighter.

Ponderous young beerwagon driver August Lembach is turned into fighter "Sledgehammer Garrity". He runs off a streak of KO wins to make a name and is promised a title shot if he can beat comer, Dan Churchill. The HW champ is only referred to as the big fellow, so I did not create a fighter for him. Given the story I assumed that the historical champ in the time-line would be James J. Jeffries although John L. Sullivan would also be a possibility that would change the birth years and career start dates I gave to these fighters.

Tony "Happy" Triano, a popular and successful fighter (earning $100,000 purses in 1958), is murdered by a shotgun blast through a car windshield). Gunn investigates his death at the request of Tony's brother Gus. Tony's Italian born mother is heartbroken. Antony Carbone plays pre-lim fighter Gino Nicholetti, Triano's best friend. Triano insisted that Gino be included on all of his fight undercards. Another prelim tomato can identified as Artie is seen in a sparring session. All three managed by character Al Matson who was played by Ken Lynch.

LW champ. Slugger, a tough thunderbolt in action. Great right cross, and good uppercut. Can't box, poor defense. Could take 40 punches to land 1. Ackward, whirlwind style. Strong as a bull. one punch stopping power. Likes to mix it up. Has fought every hard hitter in his weight class. has a cauliflower left ear and a flat lopsided nose. A Battling Nelson type of fighter.

LW From Mina Street in San Francisco. fought as a kid, a brawler, who learned to box. Literate, not a one punch slugger. Unpopular with the masses. Won an amateur tourney. Fought for 3 years as an amateur. Good left jab. In first pro bout put pointed his opponent, a two-fisted brawler, by being clever. Doesn't take a lot of punishment. Has a good head for business. WD 20 McCafferty. Never KO'd 133lbs. Has developed a snappy right hand. Had hurt his right hand as an amateur and is reluctant to use it. Title bout vs. Hicks. 1st Dude outboxes Hicks using left to body. 2nd Hicks has warmed up and begins rushing and wasting energy. Through 4 rounds Dude outboxes Hicks. Jab and clinch. hicks can't uppercut in clinches. Dude doesn't fight inside or allow Hicks to do so. 8 rounds of jab and grab. 9th Dude follows left to body with a surprise right to jaw and floors Hicks. Hicks recovers and Dude fights him for the remainder of bout. Slugs it out and is Ko'd in the 12th by Hicks, floored 3 times in round. Dude tossed away the fight a la Billy Conn. Finally got gallery behind him in this loss.

Knocked down in 2nd. New fo fighting but has good instincts. Hits New York after 25 wins. Gets a lot of pre-lim bouts. Viewed as a heel fans pay to see him get beat. 197 pounds. Good jab. Can work body. Hired as sparring partner by O'Keefe. Drops O'Keefe while sparring. O'Keefe fouls him afterword. Brutally beaten by mob goon Monte Grosser at behest of O'Keefe. Beats O'keefe for title drops him iearly in first with a swarming savage attack, and finishes him.
