I had two of the allocations on the big thread incorrectly noted but they are fixed now.

Here is what is left:

Pages 1 to 70 (need to contact bigMatt for progress check)
Pages 71 to 140 (a87star left off at page 86)

I will start from page 86. If you want to help get us over the finish line with this project that started late last September please let me know.

The end is near!

I know that I may be speaking to an empty room at this point, but I'll give it one last shot.

We started the process of moving and organizing the photos that were scattered around the board last October. To-date, our group of volunteers has moved aproximately 14,000 photos and sorted them by decade of debute.

To say that this has been a tedious task would be an understatement, those who have helped deserve a big thank you and have understandably gotten sick to death of the whole thing.

At this point, we have less than 80 pages of the huge 'Missing Photos' thread to move and we'll be done. I think that it has been a great help to us all. Now, with a simple search of the decade of debute thread, we can quickly turn up all photos posted for a given fighter. When we do, boxrec information accompanies each rather than the old method where we often didn't know which John Smith was being posted.

I will keep at this until it is done so we can move that huge mess of a thread out of the photos sub-forum and it will be what it was initialy intended to be nearly one year ago. However, I am getting very busy with other tasks and frankly have gottwn sick to death of it myself.

So, I'll make one last desperate plea for a little help to get over the hump and put this huge project behind us. If you want to help just post here or PM me about the proceedure (It is pretty simplistic but a bit time consuming). If we had 10 volunteers, everyone would just have to move 6 to 8 pages of photos. Obviously, that will not happen but with even one or two volunteers, we could knock this out in a few weeks and never look back.

Sorry for the rant and thanks in advance to any poor soul that offers to help,

Here's the deal:

See that big freaking list a few posts up? That's all the threads where photos have been moved and sorted from. All that is left is 80 odd pages from the huge Missing Photos thread which is stickied in the photo sub forum.

To move the photos:

1) download the pics to a folder using your new-fangled DSL
2) Find the boxer on boxrec
3) Repost the pic in the thread that contains his year of debut.
--In the Post title line type:
----fighter name (repost) Original poster name
----Cut and paste the header info from boxrec which contains name, ID number, record, et cetera

That's it. You can look at the other repost posts to see what everyone else has been doing.

If you can't ID the pic, slap it in the unidentified thread with whatever note the original poster left (or at least the original poster's name)

The pages left are somewhere around 30 to 70 (bigmatt needs to let us know what he has and hasn't done) and pages 91-140.

I have pages 91-105 already downloaded and about 1/2 way reposted. So, if you really want in on this fantastic once in a lifetime opportunity just start at page 140 in the Missing Photos thread and work downward.

Post here what you are doing or have done so we don't overlap. We should meet in the middle within a week or so.

If anybody else wants in on this unbelievable adventure just chime in and you too can be a star!

When this is finished, we will move the locked mega thread (Missing photos) to the main forum and un-sticky it where it will instantly fall to page 5 or below and never ever be heard from again.

By the way Will, one thing I do to make this slightly less tedious is to create a folder for each original poster. Then I download into those rather than one big folder. It eliminates the need to write down who posted what or go back and check the original thread when I go to repost it.

Who is this 'you' of whom you speak? Certainly not me.

They are easily searchable now and are (for the large part) correctly ID'd.

That is as far as I am taking it. If Andreas can figure out a way for the game to find and download photos from that forum I'd say halleluiah. But I wouldn't hold your breath.

Before this, the photos were all over the place. If you searched for fighter X, you would get a dozen threads where fighter X was mentioned. Then, you had to go to each of those threads and search again for fighter X to find the list of posts he was mentioned in. Then, you crawl through each post to find one that had a photo.

If you were lucky, you would get to a photo within 5 to 10 minutes. Now, go to decade of debut thread and do your search. it takes 3 seconds and every post that comes up is one with that guy's pic. You'll spend your time deciding which one to use now. If you don't get a hit, the photo hasn't been posted (at least that will be the case once we are done).
