1692-1726 famed soldier and fighter of Prizes who rivals William Hope as the greatest swordsman in the history of Scotland. Fought numerous duels to establish himself as a master. Then conducted his "School" in a room at the brothel that his wife kept.
Served in the Duke of Marlborough's campaign in the low countries. Experienced 16 battles, 52 sieges, and numerous skirmishes. Wounded 27 times, exclluding his being blown up by his own hand grenade.
Retired from military at agee 49 with 2 musket balls in his thigh and a plate of silver in his head. Despite these he began a successful career fighting prizes at the Bear Garden before settling down at the age of 63 after his bout with the Irishman O,'Bryen. McBane was the polar opposite of the aristocratic and genteel Hope.
