Ritchie Mack

An odd little lightweight, who fought out of St. Paul from 1928 to 1936. He beat Kid Azteca two out of three times and also beat Willard Brown. He was knocked out three times, and twice he came back to avenge those losses by outpointing the guys who kayoed him (Tracy Cox, Chino Alvarez). He had no power, but great defense and ring smarts.

I can't find a picture of him. Sorry.

Pete Nebo

A Seminole Indian from Key West, Nebo is listed as a featherweight at Boxrec. Most of his fights, though, were at 130 pounds and above. I've got him down, here, as a junior lightweight.

He took on Barney Ross for the junior welterweight championship in 1934, losing on points in 12 rounds.

A picture follows.

Danny Kapilow

As requested.

A Jewish welterweight of the 1940s, Kapilow fought and lost to champions Sammy Angott, Beau Jack, and Johnny Bratton during his career. He also fought Rocky Graziano to a draw.

Picture to follow.

Good work David on Kapilow and the others of course .... I usually don't request fighters but the ones I did request I was just surprised they weren't in the game

MH,

Glad to be able to comply. Kapilow was on my "to do" list. Slowly I am working my way through the roster of boxers at the Jews in Sports site. If you see anybody else there you'd like rated, just let me know.

This guy posted some impressive wins over big time fighters. I don't think he is talked about enough. So to give him some respect I decided to rate him and add him in. He had some suspicous losses so eithier it was some shady newspaper decisions or maybe a conditioning factor. This is my take on him. Found a photo to go along with the ratings as well

David,

Have you rated Jewey Cooke yet? I put him in my game but like I said in another post I don't spend much time testing them. I take a cursory glance at KO's and getting KO'd, I look at who they beat or lossed to, then I decide what rating I want them to have and make them. No testing, because I don't really want to spend the time.

One of these days I'll make a file of them and post them for anyone who wants to use very unofficial rated guys. I do this mainly so there at least 4 new guys in each weight class each year.

Anyways I'll post my Cooke and it'd be great if you could take a run at him. I decided he should be about a 6 and then made him such. I based it on nothing but boxrec and about a 20 second glance at it.

I'll ask the same question here that I asked in the HW thread...is it OK to post ratings of current fighters here? Or would you guys prefer this thread to be reserved for historical fighters?

Hi guys

I tried to attach my tbdx file but got the message that it's not a valid file type. How do you upload fighters to the list? The "valid file extensions" are "bmp doc gif jpe jpeg jpg pdf png psd txt zip."

Andreas just said in one of the other forums that the problem had now been fixed. I don't know if it was before or after you posted though but I would try again and if it doesn't work then post in Andreas' Forum problems thread in the General Discussions forum if it doesn't work.

UK JWW journeyman Arv Mittoo (current fighter)

Here's my first attempt at rating a fighter.

UK journeyman JWW Arv Mittoo has a total of 91 bouts under his belt. He is 9-78-4, with 3 stoppages. He himself has been stopped 7 times.

I'm very interested in fighers rated 1-3, partly because I think the game needs more of them. Also, I have a great deal of respect for lower level fighters who are never going to have a big payday but are willing to go out there and put on a good show. They knowingly serve as stepping-stones for guys who have their eyes focused higher up on the boxing career ladder.

According to his Boxrec info, Arv manages himself. He fights about twice a month at various places throughout England and Scotland. The majority of his matches are 6 rounders. He has fought only two guys in the game: 2-rated Steve Conway (JLW) and 6-rated Junior Witter (JWW). Witter defeated Mittoo in 4 rounds on points in their only meeting. Conway beat him on points in all three of their 6-round encounters.

It's hard to find accounts of Mittoo's fights, but I did find references to him as one of several "high-profile tomato cans" who lost on a particular day (I personally would never call a guy with the guts to fight for a living a "tomato can"...I'm just passing along a quote). He has also been described as a "go anywhere" fighter, so presumably he is well known on the UK club circuit. One writer also called him "charismatic." In one recent bout, Mittoo sat calmly in his corner reading the evening's fight program while his opponent made a noisy and dramatic entrance. I thought right then and there: "This fellow should be in TBCB!" And oh yeah, he has a cool sounding name, too.

In assigning ratings I first studied Mittoo's record. Still, never having seen him, there was much about him that I had to just assume. I also studied the "rate a fighter" articles on this website. I simmed more than 1,000 fights. Mittoo vs Conway, vs Witter and vs various other 1 and 2 rated JWWs. I tweaked and tweaked and simmed some more. The Mittoo I envision is a guy who knows his way around a ring, will lose 80-90% of his fights against competition that is slightly better than himself, but will not get stopped much. When he does win, it will usually be on points--but he can achieve a TKO here and there. So he's worth coming out to see on a Friday night. Some of you might say it's not correct to assign a 32 year old guy "prime" for his career stage, but I did it anyway because I'm assuming (based on nothing, really) Mittoo's skills are at their peak for a club-level/small hall-level fighter. He is going to be able to go for a few more years at least. In RL, Mittoo's last win was June 6, 2000, which just happens to be my birthday.

The Arv Mittoo here will win (mostly by decision) between 10-20% of the time against slightly better fighters. His win percentage will be higher--up to 35%--against 1-rated post-prime guys. In RL, his win rate is just 10%, but very few of his actual opponents are in TBCB. So it's hard to tell how good his opponents were. Many, by their Boxrec stats, appear to be young guys of average skills on their way up. Others appear to be go-everywhere journeymen like Mittoo himself. As you more experienced TBCB raters know, it can be really difficult to duplicate a game fighter's RL record, especially if you've never even seen the guy in action. There are just so many variables involved.

Sorry for the long post. Since I'm new at rating fighters, I just wanted you guys to know my processes and my intent in assigning numbers.

Arv, this is for you, wherever you are. Just remember to protect yourself at all times.

UK-based WW Elvis Mbwakongo (current fighter)

With a name like Elvis Mbwakongo, this fellow really *should* be in TBCB. I wanted him in my universe, so here he is.

He's 6-0-0, with 3 stoppages. None of his opponents are in TBCB, but all of them have losing records and appear to be classic trialhorse types. Since Elvis appears not to be moving forward in his quality of opponents, I am assuming that he is not a climber himself. I rated him "1," but with only 6 fights under his belt, it's anyone's guess how good he really is.

Some people have said the 1 rated fighters in the game are the cream of the journeyman crop. So my goal in rating Elvis was to make him a "1" who will win against the game's existing 1-rated fighters only about 10% of the time. And that was how things averaged out when I tested him.

He hasn't fought since September 2003, so who knows if he's even still a professional fighter. It's possible that he returned to D.R. Congo due to events in that troubled country.

Elvis, this is for you, wherever you are. Just remember to protect yourself at all times.

Smile Some miscellaneous fighters, 1965-2004

Guys;
Here are 10 miscellaneous fighters I rated because I kept coming across them in research for my 1980s universe. They are all either pre-1980 or post-1980 in the junior middleweight through heavyweight divisions. The 10 include Jannick Dufour, Jose Manuel Duran, Johnny Frankham, Shako Mambo, Don Diego Poeder, Arno Prick (what a name!), Andrej Rudenko, Kosie Smith, Valery Vikhor and Dirk Wallyn. Enjoy!
