Charles Hadley

Swampdragon,
thks very much for your Hadley rating. Much appreciated.

I am going to do a small elimination for both the heavy and middle divisions (4 fighters) each to decide who gets promoted from the general pool of fighters up into the Prospect division at each weight at the start of 1885.

Do you (or anyone else) have any prefrences for who should be included in such an elimination both rated or unrated?

let me know your picks and I will try to incorporate them into the elimination.

I don't have any preference as far as middleweights go, other than Davis. For heavyweights, Joe Lannon is in the game and deserves consideration. I would look to 2 groups for the others. Australians William Miller, Larry Foley, Bill Farnam, and Tom Lees all fought Jackson in 1884-85. Miller and Foley were a bit past their prime at the time, but Foley still beat the pre-prime Jackson.
The other group would be the black fighters active in the U.S.. Billy Wilson is probably the best of that group and best fits the label of prospect. Others would be Hadley, Tom Hinch, and Mervine Thompson.

Extra Heavyweights Rated

Here are another 18 heavyweights from the 1880's. 17 are new plus a tweaked Joe Lannon.
I have included all the guys Swampdragon mentioned (plus a slightly tweaked version of his Hadley rating, thks for that).

All have been tested against known opponents and perform historically.

Most are lower tier fighters, but some are quite reasonable 4-6 rated guys with Foley being a great fighter.

I will be including them all in my ongoing Day League replay whne they take part in the tourney to enter the league at the start of 1885.

Some are past there best by this date (Foley, Hadley) but it will be very intresting anyway.

Will now look at adding some lower rated middleweights next.

Exclamation Man oh man!

I'm gonna give you about a year to cut that out!
Dean, if you don't cut it out, I'm going to have to start my own bareknuckle world! LOL

Thanks for the fighters. I refuse to start over again no matter how much I wish I'd had them from the beginning. You're just in time for the Miller-Foley Australian heavyweight championship match. I may stage a tournament with all fighters at prime with Mace, Goss, Miller, Foley, and Allen for the unofficial pre-1880 championship. Is there anyone else who belongs?

Mark & Swampdragon,
Thks, I don't think I will cut it out just yet, I am having too much fun!
Regarding guys pre 1880 There are quite a few that come to mind.
I had a an agreement with Jaret that he would look at pre 1880 and I would look at guys active in 1880 and beyond.

Jaret any ideas for guys for Swampdragon?

After a little research, my candidates are Dwyer, Elliot, Taylor, and Donaldson. This will be a roundrobin among however many to qualify 4, a second roundrobin among those 4, and a championship. I really like the concept. We'll set the tournament in 1878 and may do one every 5 years.

Bob Fitzsimmons Career Fighters

Hi Guys,
Here is the next instalment of new fighters, I will be adding to the Day Boxing League.
From now on unless I am rating a division not already active in my replay (Welters, Feathers etc) I will be rating fighters who have fought already active guys in the replay.

My first candidate was Bob Fitzsimmons as he was active for a long time and spent time in three divisions.

So here are about 22 fighters, all new apart from a upgraded Bill Lang.
We have an even spread over the heavy and middle divisions with one extra LH.
They range in active years from the 1880's until the 1910's
It would be quite possible now to do a Fitzsimmons career replay!

I have had to split the fighters into two zip files as they are too big for the forum.

My next candidate for rating their opposition not already in the game will be either Peter Jackson, Jack "Nonpariel" Dempsey or Dominick McCaffrey. Let me know who you want to see.

It's close between Dempsey and Jackson. Dempsey would give you a who's who of 1880s American middleweights, and Jackson's time in England would lead to a new pool of heavies. Either would be great.

I agree with dragon, Dean. Either of those two would yield a lot of new and interesting possibilities.

More 1880's Heavies.

Hi Guys,
Sorry I have been so quiet lately, I have been tied up at work, excuse, excuse, moan, moan.

Anyway, I have sent to cornerwork 27 1880's and pre 1880 heavies, I have in my universe.

Hopefully they should turn up in the next few days.

Most are 1 or 2 rating but there are some good guys who were at their peak in the 1870's and earlier in the group as well.

I will get back to the Peter Jackson opponent ratings ASAP.
