Here's a file for Dick Wagner(photo posted above, post #3015 )
Dick Wagner - MW 1945-1953 Rating 6 Oregon City, OR Tough guy to rate. Beat some quality fighters and lost to some not so good ones. Record: 33-20-5 (22 KOs) Dick Wagner had a great association with boxing, a sport that he loved. His resume during the true Golden Age of Boxing includes bouts with: Floyd Patterson (a SD loss, highly disputed), Danny Nardico, Bob Murphy, Jake LaMotta, Artie Levine, Billy Fox, Dan Bucceroni, Joey DeJohn, Tibero Mitri. Dick was was trained by Whitey Bimstein, managed by Jack Curley out of the old Stillman's gym on 8th Ave. in NY. Dick was a talented Ringsman who graced such legendary arenas as ; Madison Square Garden, Easten Parkway, St. Nicholas, Detroit Stadium as well as all the small but remembered tank towns along the way.. Dick Wagner was a member of the Yakima Tribe and always proud of his Indian Heritage. As a mentor and instructor of young boxers one of his early charges was Stephan Forbes who he coached in his early teens at Knott Street Boxing Club in Portland. |

Sal,
Thanks for the quick reply!! I notice that boxrec has him listed as a LHW but your rating is MW. In your opinion do you feel that his best work was at MW? If you were to rate him as a LHW, what would you change? Thanks, Austin |

I'll work up a LHW version of him. Most of his career was in the middleweight division. He fought LHW and some HW late in his career. I have noticed that boxrec lists a fighter in what division they last fought in. Wagner fought in the middleweights from 1945-1950(49 fights) & LHW/HW 1950-1953(9 fights). |
