Amos Carlin

Here is the tragic Amos Carlin, listed above. The 5' 4½" fighter from New Orleans was ranked #11 among bantamweights in Ring's year-end rankings for 1926. He died the next year in a drowning accident. Carlin was 23.

New York Jewish welterweight. Fought from 1917 to 1932. Faced Pete Latzo for welterweight title in 1926, but lost on a foul. Record: 54-34-13 (5).

According to Boxrec, "Levine became a hero on July 3, 1926, while training for his title shot, when he returned inside a burning gymnasium to save his sleeping trainer, Izzy Sarber."

According to Boxrec, "Beat amongst others Jackie Brown, Johnny McGowan, George Dilkes, Michael Stack, George Casson and Bob Cleaver all in the UK. Lost amongst other to Bobby Dawson and Jean Stock in the UK. Also lost to Jimmy Elliott for the South African Middleweight title in 1953."

Harry Mizler

English Jewish lightweight. Fought from 1923 to 1933.

According to Jewsinsports.org, "Mizler was an outstanding amateur boxer in the early 1930s before turning professional. In 1930, at the age of 17, Harry was the British amateur bantamweight champion and won the Commonwealth Games title in the same weight class. Two years later, he was the featherweight champ and then won the British amateur lightweight title in 1933. Mizler, a very popular fighter in England, then turned professional and defeated Johnny Cuthberg in January 1934 to capture the British lightweight title."

A dirty fighter, four of his losses came on fouls. He was Italian light heavyweight champion for three brief months in 1926.

Iggy Vaccari was a local Boston welterweight who fought from 1948 to 1955.
