Go to the Internet Movie Database http://www.imdb.com/ Put penitentiary into the search box and you'll find references to the films. As a lark I've been looking there for boxing films and fictional fighters to possibly create. Bear Quote:

Hi Bear,
I'll give that a go. The first Penitentiary film is one of my all time favourites. I really like the other two as well. I'm thinking of having a go at creating ratings for the characters in them for a bit of fun. There was one guy called Magilla Gorilla, definately a 'tomatoe can'. Let us know how your findings go. All the best, Ian. |

It will be some time. Right now I've got an 80 page document with film titles and casts. I'm trimming away unecessary cast members. I also haven't seen all of the movies either. It isn't a high priority, but it is kind of fun to dabble around with it. In addition to film there is also a rich history of fictional boxing literature. In addition to published novels, there are the old Fight Stories magazines, and also some fiction in early Ring magazines. Dan Daniel used to write fictional pieces for them in addition to his boxing coverage. Bear Quote:

It's a cool film based on a novel, The Diggstown Ringers by Leonard Wise. Rocky Pepeli and Randall "Tex" Cobb have supporting roles. Not a great film, but definitely worth a look for boxing fans. |

Don't forget Julian "the snake" Pedroza and the McGuinn brothers from "Split Decisions. The boys from the "Gladiator" movie too, Black Death, Lincoln, whatever the white guys name was, I forgot.
I like the fictional characters too, good idea guys. |

Funny you should mention Split Decisions, but my wife and I have found the DVD in our house, still shrink wrapped, and no idea where it came from. I'm tempted to open it up and watch it, but worried in case the owner comes around looking for it.

Seeing Snipes in boxing garb there reminded me of 'Streets of Gold'. I always liked that flick, although I know very few other people that did, or even heard of it for that matter.

"Gut shots are the worst, theeeee worst" My absolute favorite for a rainy Saturday afternoon. And I thought James Woods was much, much better than the previous reviewer :-)
